Yamaha YTS-61 vs. Buffet SDA tenor: which one to keep?

Question:
Yamaha YTS-61 vs. Buffet SDA tenor: which one to keep?
Hi folks,
I've got to sell of one of these, and I really like both of them, eventhough they are very different from each other. It's a dilemma; each time I think I want to keep one I'll pick up the other and change my mind. I could live happily with either horn. It's a wash financially either way. I'm just curious what others would do in this situation; some good opinions and thoughts may help. Thanks!

Answer:
The SDA is a scarce beast and very sought after here in the UK. They surface very rarely but when they do, healthy ones fetch top money.
Recently, a good condition 61 sold for 550 on Ebay. A fair condition SDA sold for 1200. Now, that does not mean a great deal when talking about 2nd hand horns and Ebay as I've seen Selmers sell for peanuts.
Personally, I'd keep the Buffet, although I do feel your pain. Both are very nice horns, but it would have to take a VERY special horn to make me part with my SDA.

Answer:
Id say keep the SDA. They sell form more and are appreciating more than a 61...in fact quite rapidly. Additionally, I think its more horn than any Yamaha....unless of course it doesnt have the sound your searching for but you indicate otherwise. Its hard to go wrong with the SDA. Also if you ever find another dream horn you just HAVE to own in the long run the SDA will bring more dollars towards that purchase if need be.

Answer:
i would keep the yamaha.the sda is the most over-rated vintage sax imho

Answer:
Or . . . if you like both equally, you could sell the one you could get the most money for.

Answer:
Thank you for the advice, everybody: it's good to hear and gives me some new things to think about

How so? First time I've heard this; usually people give them high praise. It took awhile to get used to the YTS-61 after playing the Buffet, but the 61 is a great horn.
Cheers

Answer:
the buffet sda is just another french made sax. there is nothing extra ordinary about. every one i have played was nothing special. i even owned an alto for awhile. mind you this is just my opinion. i never played a yamaha that wast great. the 61 is a truly great horn. i will always remember the time i met this tenor player who thought his sda was the bomb. i let him play my mk6-the look on his face said it all.
