Question:
Bari Clips

Thanks for considering my clips. I am not a pro and have no recordings (other than a few homemade CDs). My clips change fairly regularly to conserve website space, but I presently have a few on my website <http://www.richardwade.net>. In most I play bari (my horn of choice) but in some I also play alto and tenor. Bayview (check the big thread on this forum) also has posted some nice clips that he has done on a recently acquired King Zephyr. Bari Sax Diva (she is listed in saxonthe web) also has a few clips on her website. Other than those, I don't know of any other amateur bari clips/posters.
What do you play? If you have some clips, put them up.

Thanks for the reply. I am playing a 1970 Conn with a 12M neck- I think it is a pretty good sax but I have no reference point. I don't know any other Bari players so it hard to compare sound. I like to listen to Gerry Mulligan so I know where I'm not for sure.
I enjoyed listening to Blue Bossa- I know several of you post on another thread about different recordings- which arrangement of Blue Bossa did you use? I about have my computer set up to record so I would like to record and then at least compare my sound with yours. I actually would like to compare scale tones , long tones, etc. as well as actual songs.
Good web site- are most of your clips recorded on Tenor? Anyway thanks for any information. DD

Glad to hear that you are almost set up to record. Join us on the big thread. Blue Bossa was from Aebersold vol. 54. Most of the jazz tunes on my website are on bari - or else bari is included with alto and tenor. I have quite a few clips of other tunes freaturing bari that are not on the website- just not enough room on the website for all. If you have a particular tune in mind let me know. I might have it recorded. Your setup sounds interesting. What mpc are you using?
Some other pro bari players that you might want to listen to include: Nick Brignola (almost any of his CDs), Cecil Payne (especially Payne's Window), Pepper Adams, Serge Chaloff (Blue Serge - nobody played like him), Hamiett Bluett, and of course Gerry Mulligan. Others that I listen to less frequently include: Smulyan, Cuber, Daly.
I play a Mark VI with Runyon Jaguar #10 and 2.5 Fibracell Reeds. The other mpc I use is a Morgan HR 7J with 3 or 3.5 Rigotti reeds. We'll be picking a new tune shortly so join us.

Ok thanks, I am currently using a Runyon Custom 8, usually Rico Royal #2. Certainly being able to record and then listen to your own playing should help with tone concept, etc. Will check out the big thread- thanks, DD

Blue Bossa
rcwjd, I looked for that particular song and I really don't see it in Volume 54- Maiden Vayages. Was it somewhere else perhaps? Maybe a different name. Thanks, DD

Answer:
If you check the CD, Tune #4 I believe, it is the changes for Blue Bossa. Because of copyright issues, I believe that in the book they have a tune called solar flair played over the same changes. Ignore that tune, and play Blue Bossa over the changes. I'll check again this evening and let you know if it is in another place. You can find Blue Bossa in most fake books (the score) and probably can download it from one of the free sites too.
