Need amp recommendation
Question: Im going to be in nantucket to work for the summer and need a good little amp because I obviously cant bring my vox. I just want a nice little versatile practice am I can pick up in boston before the bus ride. Any suggestions? I know there are tons of good little ones but I know there is a ton of crappy ones. Answer: How much you wanna spend? How quiet do you need it to be? What features do you need? Tube, SS or modeling preference? A Blues junior is a nice choice but may be too powerful. Answer: I dont want anything to loud because there will be a baby in the room next to mine. I want a amp that sounds good clean but can also do distortion. Tube would be cool but not a necessity. Would like to spend less then $200 Answer: 1 Attachment(s) A little more, but I love my Vox DA 5. Real guitars speakers, not just radio speakers! Answer: I've heard the Epiphone Valve Jr. is a great little practice amp. Nice sound and tubes. Don't know how well it will do distortion but then again you could get yourself one of them funny little pedals that does that for you. Answer: There was a young man from Nantucket... :D Answer: Roland Cube 30X $229. It's a fine little solid state amp. Ten inch speaker, nice effects, tuner, amp modeling and two switchable channels - JC Clean and Lead with gain control. Sounds good at any volume. Answer: It's a compromise between size and tone I guess. Maybe the Blackheart Killer Ant, or a Vox DA5/Microcube if versatility takes priority. The Peavey Nano Valve and Royal 8 are alright too, I tried the Nano last month and it sounded okay conisdering the size of the thing. Though I think Peavey shot themselves in the foot by omitting an external speaker jack. Answer: you can get a Vox Pathfinder 10 for aboout 70 bucks brand new, it has a nice clean channel, the drive channel kinda sucks if you turn it up too much but over all for the small amount of cash it is a great deal Answer: Small amps that I've liked; Marshall MG15DFX Vox Valvetronix AD15 Fender Champ 600 (very basic, and quite loud) I think out of those, the MG15DFX is the cheapest. A lot of people bash them, but I really like my MG100HDFX, and the MG50DFX I had before that. The MG15DFX is small, but still sounds decent. I believe in the $200 range is the MG30DFX as well. It's a bit more versatile, but also a bit bigger. The Valvetronix amps are just ok IMO. I've found them a tad sterile sounding when I've played them. However, they're really versatile. IIRC, these are a bit more than the Marshall MG's of similar sizes. The Fender Champ, while it sounds great, is very basic (One knob), and pretty damn loud. If you're looking for quiet, this may not be the best option. Answer: For range and reliability the Roland cube 30 mentioned above is hard to ignore. They do it all and do it well. What ever you buy, I'd really reccommend having a look at one first. Answer: I didnt know Nantucket was still playing?? Those Uzzell's just keep on going and going and going... I'm sure Tommy Redd has an amp that you can borrow until you get a few gigs under your belt.:poke: Answer: I'd also go for the Cube 30. Answer: A little more, but I love my Vox DA 5. Real guitars speakers, not just radio speakers! +1 for the mini vox - it's my main sitting in front of the TV noodling amp. Fender S-1 Swiching Volumne Knob Removal.? Jonny's Puzzle Cave. come in and test the grey matter? So, my RG100es and XL cab are gone too? katana guitars? I'm looking forward to the new Mew album? Good distortion for Blackheart little giant combo? Two Heads, One Stereo Cab, how to run them? Is $1800 a really good price for.(Bogner content)? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.todayaq.com
