Acoustic Effects (cool or uncool)

Question:
So in my electrical days I had a pretty bitchin rig, I always had more effects than anyone else that my band played with.
Today all that I play is my acoustic, but I sure do miss those effects.
I mainly used a morley wah wah, boss chorus, johnson distortion, boss phaser, ibanez flanger, and a few more. They were all mounted on this huge pedalboard. It was very cool, but to wrap this all up.
What effects are cool to use on an acoustic?
I mean there are the obvious ones like chorus, some delay, and maybe a good reverb. But do you know of any great combinations?
Has anyone ever successfully pulled off a phaser? or ....... I dont know, but I would like to hear from your guys experience.
TIA

Answer:
try it and see.:poke:

Answer:
Keep it simple. Acoustic or electric, "effects" are no substitute for inventive, creative playing.

Answer:
Keep it simple. Acoustic or electric, "effects" are no substitute for inventive, creative playing. True - especially regarding acoustic guitar. HST, a little EQ tweaking, a touch of compressor and/or reverb can add sparkle and depth. Don't overdo it though.

Answer:
I saw a nylon string guitar with an internal spring reverb once (not powered by anything). You could turn it on and off via a little switch.
That was pretty cool - a purely acoustic effect!

TIA Solo gigs, I generally just use the built-in reverb on my PA mixer, but trio gigs get my pedal board, which (currently) is comprised of Dano auto-wah -> Boss HM-2 overdrive -> Boss Super Phaser -> Boss Phaser -> Boss Flanger-> Dano Chorus -> Dano Digital Delay -> Shobud volume pedal -> Boss DD-5 Digital Delay into the FX return/send on my Baggs PADI...
As for cool combinations:
Light overdrive/chorus/flanger makes a nice singing sound w/ an acoustic.
Auto-wah pumped into the 2nd delay, via the volume pedal, is pretty wild for emphasizing certain musical passages.
Running two phasers, set at slightly different speeds is an amazingly ever-changing sound.
Always remember that with FX, much like spices in cooking, a little usually goes a long way...I plan my trio sets so that no effect/combination of effects gets used more than once per set, and usually only once per gig.

Answer:
I often use a RAT distortion, a holy Grail reverb set on "flerb"
and extra wet, switched in for certain passages in some songs..... also I always have a George dennis wah/volume in the fx loop of my Padi.
My guitar has two output jacks though, and I send the magnetic sunrise through the fx in the loop in the padi, the jack out goes into a fender twin reverb, and the XLR out to the PA system.
Then my guitars onboard mic/piezo goes into the PA with a touch of the desks reverb.
This way I always have a clean acoustic like sound "under" anything that's going on.
Sounds good to me, but it's hardly traditional.

Answer:
I use a lil chorus and a lil reverb almost allways. DEF COOL!

Answer:
If it sounds good it sounds good. I don't like the idea of effects for effects sake . Just make sure it adds something that sounds like it belongs and not something that was shoehorned in to make use of a new toy.

Yep. There's something very cool about uneffected acoustic guitar. I guess that's why we're on this board right now.
That being said, I have a couple of effects in my acoustic gig rig for my current project.
A Looper, so I can build some textures for a handful of songs.
A Micro-POG, which can generate an octave higher and lower. Good for adding a hint of bottom for some songs - or adding faux-bass or mando parts, when used with the aforementioned looper.
Other commonly used 'effects' are the 'transparent' ones. Compression to even the sound and make it punchier (I loathe it on acoustic, but a lot of people like it) and reverb/delay for ambiance.
Just say "NO" to chorus on acoustic guitar, unless you have an Ovation and like sounding like hair metal ballads.

Answer:
Played in the right venue, an unamplified acoustic guitar will have plenty of reverb. I see no problem with adding a little if you aren't in a venue that provides it naturally. I tend to use a little chorus with jazz electric guitar sometimes and it has an equally nice effect with jazz on an amplified acoustic.
Phaser or wah-wah or heavy distortion would be a little over the top for me - even with an electric guitar.

Answer:
I use an acoustic pedalboard when we do our acoustic gigs- I have the Following on it (From Guitar/Pedalboard/Mixer)
Boss TU2 Tuner
DOD Stereo Chorus- I use this occassionally to accent some parts of the song
Boss EQ7- I actually use this to bump up my vu for solos
EHX Micro Pog- I just got it, I use it to mimick bass guitar (which it does ok) but this pedal really shines on the high end- it mimicks a
12 string great!
EHX #1 Echo- Nice delay (digital but with an analog feel)Again I use it
occassionally on a few tunes
Boss OD3 Overdrive- I use this to give my guitar a crunchy sound, again
I use it on a few tunes- I am having mechanical
problems right now and looking for a new od pedal
(Bad Monkey?)
Rockman Acoustic Pedal- This is my favorite- it really enhances the acoustic
depths. I leave this on the whole gig
With the exception of the Rockman, the other effects are used as accents, and definately not overused.:thu:

Answer:
I have this Marshall 50w amp that has two channels and is switchable for and/or speed and depth effects 9chorus), in addition to reverb. For me it depends on the song. Mostly I'll do nothing more than a little reverb (2-3). I have used the speed and depth settings for fun.
But I'm a noob so what do I know :thu:

Answer:
I currently use no effects, though I'd like a nice reverb pedal should I decide to perform some time in the future. I think that I'd rather polish up my technique instead of relying on effects though.
OTOH I discovered that an old friend of mine had been solo acoustic shows in and around Philly. He was a big gearhead back in college but apparently found a way to cross over - at least for his solo gigs.

Answer:
I've used the Zoom A2 pedal and Boss Loop Station in the past, but I got tired of carrying them to the gigs and setting them up. But they were a blast.
Now my only effect is the LR Baggs PARA DI.

Answer:
Check this out.. Damien Rice does it right I think. Use effects to create an effect...

Answer:
+1 to Fred's post. Less doesn't necessarily equal more; the key is to be tasteful.

Answer:
The thing is, should any of my effects fail, all my songs work without them anyway, just that playing two hour sets on my own it's nice to have a few tricks to sprinkle in there.
I picked up an ehx nano clone chorus today and used it earlier at my 6-8 gig I do on Fridays, it worked great, nice gritty lofi chorus that takes almost no room on my pedalboard.
Works great for some of my grungier sounding tunes.

Answer:
my main man John Butler has some really cool effects going when he plays his lap steel. It sounds like some wah and a little distortion.
he kicks them in at around 3:40 and another set in at 4:03
