Tube amp help
Question: I was going to get a 5w blackheart because there's a blem one on MF. While on MF, I also saw that 18w crate 1x12 for $20 more. Now I can' t decide on which one to get:confused: HELP Blackheart Advantages- As a bedroom player wattage more appropiate for setting Disadvantages- lacks reverb Crate Adavntages- possibly too loud, Advantages- more bang for your buck, has reverb Answer: I'm gonna go ahead and say the Blackheart. The Crates are nice, but you'll end up having to use a reverb pedal with either one. The stock reverb on the Crates suck. On all the ones I've tried anyway. Plus the QC of the Blackheart line is much better. Answer: Plus the QC of the Blackheart line is much better. They are made by Crate. Answer:  They are made by Crate. I was pretty sure they were just distributed by Crate. The Blackheart team seems to be independent of Crate. Answer: Leaning towords the blackheart, still feed me more opinions, thanks Answer: I'm gonna go ahead and say the Blackheart. Answer: For apartment use, the Blackheart would be better. It is still going to be loud. Answer: I've played a gig already with my Blackheart. :thu: Did fine. Switch to 3 watt mode and you're more than safe enough for apartment use. Answer: If you want to spend about $170 more you could get the Blackhart 15w head&cab or combo. It's got a master volume so it might work at lower levels and give you other options too. It also has a prescence control. Just a thought Answer: Yeah, I'm planning on getting the 15w too, but it's not out yet, and I think this guy's out to get his amp pretty soon. Answer: Its a no-brainer. The Crate. They get nicer overdrive at lower volumes that the non-master volume Blackheart. Yes, I've owned a Blackheart. If you want to stay at 5 watts, the Crate V8 offers a lot more than the Blackheart, IMO. Answer: Try to pick up a Crate Palomino V16. You won't be disappointed. Visit your Guitar Center, they may still have a few. Mine still has some V32s for dirt low prices. You could check out Ebay too. Answer: Get a Epiphone Valve Junior stack. I have played both side by side and the Valve Junior is way better. Answer: Try them first!!! I did and went somewhere else with my money The Blackheart is nothing more than a Crate V5 and the NEW V18 is extremely ordinary and limited. If you want vintage tone under $300, buy a used Peavey Classic 20 or probably a Palomino V16. If you want some real sweet sugar under $400 I would go Peavey Classic 30 or Palomino V32. I own the C30 and love it! Creamed everything else I tried under $400. The Blackheart and V18 can’t even get close, we are talking two different worlds for just a few bucks more. And if you need low volume for practice… I can play while my girlfriend is watching tv or sleeping in the SAME room! Answer: really depends on where you plan on usng it. the blackheart is not loud enough to play with a drummer, but if you're just looking for a practice amp, 5 watts is plenty Answer: really depends on where you plan on usng it. the blackheart is not loud enough to play with a drummer, but if you're just looking for a practice amp, 5 watts is plenty I was able to keep up with my drummer just fine last night. Of course, I have the half stack version, not the combo, if that makes any difference. That little bastard gets really loud. Answer: Its a no-brainer. The Crate. The last batch I saw in Eastern Pa and New Jersey were all made in Vietnam and had serious QC issues. I wanted to pull the trigger so badly but walked away and was glad I did. Just after that, there was some discussion here a while back about tube problems beyond QC with the Palomino series once they went to Vietnam. I had the same half-stack. Seems loud by yourself. Disappears with a little other stuff thrown in. My 5 watt Crate is louder through the same cab.
