need help re-routing
Question: hi guys.. i have a flying v body and its crappy and it has a hole for the trmolo bridge.. my question is that i want to install a tone pro bridge instead of a tremolo. how can i fill the tremolo hole. what kind of wood i can use. i think the body is made up of plywood.. need advice pls.. here some pics.. as you can see.. this routing is pretty bad.. anyways.. i got this from garage sale for 3 bucks..lol.. it deserve some lovin... thanks..heres the pics Answer: Any hardwood will work for you. The trick is going to be to get the paint off the edges of the hole. In order for all your glue to take, you'll want fresh wood contact all around the plug you're putting in there. You might want to make up some type of template to use on both the hole & the patch you make. This will insure that they are matching up the same w/ less adjustments. Or rather than making the hole that's there any bigger, just sand all the edges of it to bare wood, then make a tracking of that to use for cutting your patch pieces. Good luck with it! Answer: thanks.. im still thinking if i will still cont... do you think it will be worth to restore this POS?? just need advice before i spend good dollars on this..hehe Answer: Only you can decide if you want to bother with it & how far you want to take it. Too bad it's plywood. I'm doing something similar with a strat body that I paid $10 for. Routed the humbuckers the other day & should route the controls cavity tonight. /...5&postcount=35 Answer: thanks.. im still thinking if i will still cont... do you think it will be worth to restore this POS?? just need advice before i spend good dollars on this..hehe If you just spend some time & a few dollars, then yes. It's a shame it's plywood, but you could have some fun doing it & end up with something you're proud of when your done w/ it. Have you considered just putting a trem on it, or is that out of the question for you? If you want to turn it into something that you are going to use & only spend a little money on some pickups, then I'd say yes, go for it. If you're thinking resale value, then probably not. Answer: 1 Attachment(s) a daaa duu Answer: I recently had to do something like this. ( it was a pickup hole instead of a tremolo rout) I have a few templates made up and an "Inlay bit set" that allows me to make a nearly perfect fill piece for an enlarged hole I rout that will completely fill up or cover over the old hole. A Plunge router really helps with this trick. you'll have to treat the front and back holes seperately to do a great job. and if your body is made of plywood then i recommend useing plywood as it will expand and contract at similar rates as the body, which can become important after you paint the body. otherwise you end up with cracks and fill lines in your paint in about 3-4 months after it's done. In the old days they used to call this idea "Dutchman" because your "plugging a hole" ;) Answer: Hey Tigger Spank, Quit trolling BadOne7's posts. No one cares what you think of him. What are you, 12? Answer: I was going to recommend what Bruce said, but with one comment. You're better off making a new body. Answer: I just looked over the photos closely.. man... even at 3 bucks, thats some expensive firewood. JMHO here...Unless your in this project for the experience.. i would go find something with less issues to start with. Folks, just because it's "shaped" like a guitar ... Doesn't mean it shouldn't belong in the trash. Answer: I was going to recommend what Bruce said, but with one comment. You're better off making a new body. +1 Answer: i think the body is made up of plywood... From the pictures, it looks more like particle board. If you want a V project, buy some wood and use the old body as a template. D Anyone try the Suhr Aldrich pickups How's the tone? Opinions on clip of The 1812 Overture - and guess the amp?
