Welcome to www.todayaq.com !!!

Great news about one of my students!

Question:
I'd taught this kid for about a year-and-a-half more-or-less until his schedule got bogged down with middle school band requirements ... alto sax. So I get a call that he wants to start taking guitar again.
When I get over there, he says that he wants to try out for jazz band on guitar! It's been two semesters since I last taught him, and the audition was two weeks away!!! Long story short ... got in three 30-min lessons covering the audition material and ...
He beat out five other guitarists and is now the jazz guitarist in his middle school jazz band!!!! We'll spend the summer having a "jazz intensive" and getting him ready for next year.
:D

Answer:
Congrats!
It sounds like you've met a young, talented musician.
I encourage you to emphasize "music", not just "guitar", as his background is sax. He may be the next guitar prodigy. He may be the next sax prodigy.
Best wishes to you AND your student.

Sax is his second instrument. He tried out for jazz band sax as well, but said that he'd rather play guitar in jazz band and just keep up the sax for the school band (concert band, I guess).
I'm not sure how you'd emphasize "music" over "guitar." When I teach guitar, I teach music. :idk:

Answer:
good job stack, you da man

Answer:
That is cool Stack - particularly if he plays both. I got an e-mail the other day from a sometime forumite who said that he hears someone in his appartment practicing their sax, which inspired him to get his old archtop out and try to remember some jazz. What a coincidence if it happened to be your student.

Answer:
Awesome!
For me, high school band/orchestra/jazz band/pep band, etc, were all more fun when I was playing different instruments. I couldn't imagine only playing trombone all day. Good for your student! It's an awesome thing to be proficient on two instruments, especially at his age.

Excellent. It's nice that you can work with a quick learner with some talent. Who knows, maybe one day he'll send you an autographed copy of his first commercial recording.

Answer:
geat job - there's nothing quite as satisfying as teaching a talented student :)
