also depends on if you do it outside ebay or not. lol

about 4% to ebay and 5% to paypal.
What a ripoff.

What a ripoff. I wonder how much each of those sales costs ebay on average. Pennies I would imagine. Money for nothing and your chicks for free.

What a ripoff. Yes, it's kind of a rip-off, but then I can't think of any other service that puts what you're selling in front of literally millions of people, protects your anonymity, offers a modicum of fraud security, and processes the payments for a 9% commission.
And in my experience (about 50 transactions), you're virtually guaranteed to sell your item in a week if it's priced at all competitively. Compared to Criagslist, I've had far more success selling on eBay. You just have to accept that if you use it you're going to pay for what they provide.

Answer:
Best offer I got for something on Craigslist was $80 and that was after a couple of months. I got around $250 after a week putting it on E-Bay for a week, so even after the E-Bay and Paypal fee, it was still a rather huge amount extra.
9% commission is actually a lot lower than many live auctions, as well and if anything, E-Bay probably has more overhead than say Sotheby's.

Answer:
For those of us who have been using eBay since the beginning, the new fees seem rather steep. There used to be a flat listing fee period! Now, it stings a little when you see how much they take. Especially when they hit you twice on eBay then Paypal. That being said, they still offer a marketplace with far more exposure than anything else I've seen with a good deal of protection for both seller and buyer.

Answer:
Paypal is 2.9% + $0.30 fee.
So Ebay/Paypal will take about $80 from a $1000 sale.

Answer:
Yea I was going to estimate $80.
You'll easily get $80 more selling on Ebay compared to any other vehicle I can imagine so it's still a good deal. The transaction itself costs ebay very little...but they do have an advertising budget, employees to pay fighting fraud, programmers, and a lot of shit I don't even know about. Personally I still use Ebay to sell stuff. I hear a lot of people make a nice living from their home buying stuff on Craigslist and reselling it on Ebay.
