Amp comparison! Bogner Ecstasy Vs Splawn Quickrod

Question:
I'm considering each amp and I wanna hear everyone's opinions of them. I like the sounds of the clips I'm hearing from both of them, probably the ecstasy clips more, but I'm worried about dealing with bogner, and reliablity of their amps compared to the splawn.
The reason I say this is that the splawn HQ is like 2 hours from me rather than across the sea, plus a splawn would be a lot easier to track down.
Few splawn clips
Ecstasy
Thoughts? Also i'm not sure what the prices will be like, so if anyone can weigh in.

Answer:
I didn't realize that California was across the sea from North Carolina, although many times I wish it was. Keep your genes on that side of the pond!

-W Hmm thought they be foreign.

Answer:
quickrod, not a fan of the bogner sound
:o

Answer:
If it were a Nitro I'd take it. In this case, the Bogner. There is a huge price difference though. The QR is less than $2k. The Bogner is, what...$3k?

Didn't realize that the price difference was so much. Either way, I'm not 100% between quickrod and nitro. I know they do 100% different things, but i feel at home with either sound they bring. Generally I'm a fan of more organic classic tone which is why I said QR

Answer:
Bogner 101b
Do it.

Answer:
I hate the QR. I like the Nitro (used to own one). I prefer the Ecstasy - love it.
YMMV

Answer:
QUICKROD hands down. Cuts through the mix better live, and sounds like heaven when you dig in and play.

Answer:
imo you need neither amp...

Answer:
imo you need neither amp... recommendations?

Answer:
I would take the Bogner over the QR any day. The Bogner is so much more amp and so much more versatile. Far more organic sounding to my ears. The QR has an upper mid dynamic that I just can not work with but I will say this....that dynamic goes away when recording and the QR records well if dialed right. The Bogner of course records well also. There iis a HUGE price difference - especially new to new comparison. You can buy 2.5 quick rods for the price of an Ecstacy Classic fully loaded. The 101B's are less expensive...but both are worth every penny. My vote is Bogner...

Answer:
Those clips of the XTC sound very good. Some of the best I've heard. Most sound I've heard sound much more dull in the top end. I usually prefer the sounds of the QR, but in the clips you posted I prefer the Bogner. I don't know if that helps at all.

FWIW...you could pick up a used QR for probably $1000 less...possibly more:idk:

Answer:
I had both at the same time but I no longer own the QR. I thought it was a really nice amp, but the clean channel was horrid. However, the new QR's have an updated clean channel that can actually be CLEAN, so that's cool.
I don't remember too much about the QR, but it had tons of gain and had a nice spit-fire type of attack to the notes. The remote switching was great...it was a cool amp. For me, it wasn't different enough compared to other amps I have in order to keep it (e.g. I liked my SLO a lot more for the crunchy type of distortion that I found to be the QR's type of tone).
I don't see a whole lot of common ground between the Bogner and QR though, so its hard to compare them for the same use. The Bogner is a whole lot more $$$ than the QR that's for sure!

Answer:
QR.

Answer:
Take this for whatever its worth to you..
I've heard a few bogners live, the XTC and the uber. They didn't cut through the mix well at all IMO. Maybe they weren't dialed in right? i don't know, all I know is that they did NOT cut through very well.
I also sold a Marhall JMP to a fellow who sold his Bogner XTC because he said it didn't cut it live. He also followed up with "Nothing cuts like a marshall"
I was in shock when he said that a Bogner XTC didn't cut in the mix well, and asked him "hows that possible? its a good amp isnt it?"
the guy said its a GREAT amp to record with, but didn't cut it in a live situation. So he went back to using old marshalls.
I've never played a Bogner amp, i do think they sound absolutely GREAT on recordings. (Alter Bridge, Alice In Chains)
but I would go with the Quickrod for the simple fact that it sounds AMAZING in a band setting. It's never let me down in a band setting, and I never fear articulate guitar parts being lost in the mix

Answer:
I couldnt get the 2nd xtc clip to load and I havent ever played one but the clean in the first clip so totally destroys the QR clean that it isnt even funny. That amp appears to have almost the tracking speed of the QR with some sag at the same time which I didnt know was possible and he isnt using a boost supposedly.
