How much is a fair price for a mint, but used Fender Standard Telecaster?

Question:
Found one on my local Craigslist for $300. Sunburst with a molded hardshell case.
The seller says it's only been played a few times, and because of that, it's mint.
Is that a fair price? Would it be worth it to offer less?

Answer:
Sounds like a decent deal to me. :)

Answer:
bout a hundred dollars.

Yeah.

Definitely about a hundred dollars.

Answer:
Maybe I'll offer $250 and see if he'll take it...
I want's me a Tele.

Answer:
My calculator came up with $325
I went
Guitar $399
Case $ 65
Total $464
Less Used discount - 30%

= $325
That's just my rule of thumb, and since it's "mint" that would be fair, so $300 sounds like a good deal, and if he'll take any less, all the better. ;)
But I'd go there with $300 in my pocket, maybe $250 in the pocket and the other $50 in smaller bills in your wallet.

Is that a fair price? Would it be worth it to offer less? Look at it first. On Craigslist, "mint" can be pretty subjective.
At Ebay, nice ones go for $250-300. Look at "completed listings" to get an idea.

Answer:
Go check it out. If it's a good guitar than $300 is a good deal for the tele & case. Feel free to haggle, but be willing to pay the $300 if the guitars good. It's not worth your time to hold out for $25-50 in savings.
Better hurry though. I bet it sells pretty fast at that price. The fact it's supposedly mint & comes with a Fender hardcase makes it a little better deal than average in my opinion.

(Make sure it isn't hot.)

Answer:
I think I'm just going to wait. It's not the color I want (I'm not a fan of sunbursts on a Tele), and looking at the pictures again, it doesn't really look "mint."
Plus, if it's a pre-2006 model I don't want it anyway. :idk:
I think I'll just order a new Standard Tele in Arctic White like I had planned to. I'm thinking I'll add a mint pickguard too.

From there, I'll also haggle down if it's an item which is difficult to sell (not the case with the telecaster, but if it was an off-brand tele copy...)
So $280 tops. Try to get them to come down.
A dealer I could see buying at 50 percent off, selling at 30, but when it comes to used gear, unless it's a killer deal I figure I'm usually better off waiting for a new one to go on sale somewhere.

Answer:
Different pickup. Before 06 they were ceramic. After, alnico.
Edit: I think they were alnico earlier on, too. They may have switched to ceramic around the time they went to a string-thru body. Can anyone confirm? What specs when?
Edit/Edit: To the OP - $300 w/ case is fair, but not a deal, as others have mentioned.

If you find a guitar you like, want to play & maybe keep forever than what's $20. If you're buying gear to just to buy/sell, then sure, try & squeeze every penny out of every deal.

Answer:
Why??? Poplar body, I don't like the old pickups, and cheaper hardware. It would cost more than it's worth to make it as nice as a post-2006 model.

Edit/Edit: To the OP - $300 w/ case is fair, but not a deal, as others have mentioned. MIM Std pickups are still ceramic. The only significant difference for 2006-present teles is the Med jumbo frets. The Strats also got the heavier trem block.

That may not be the exact words, but it definitely specifies it in the catalog I have.

If it's MZ6, MZ7, MZ8 then you have an upgrade model. To get the artic white new, mint guard, plus a Fender hardcase will cost $150-$200 more depending on the new deals you can swing. Your call if it's worth it.

I'm positive that's incorrect or misleading. 2005 models were alder.
See Link for MIM 2005 Strat.
