Would some place like Guitar Center actually sell boxes that are sized to mail guitars? I gotta send one out on Monday and I need a box!

They will probably give you one if you buy something there or if you ask them close to when they get their shipments in. I've had better experiences with bike shops.
The boxes that bikes get shipped in work well for guitars also.

I went to a local mom & pop last time I shipped a guitar and they charged me $10 for an old Gibson box.

Everytime i asked for a box at a GC, they had plenty alright, but they were horrible light duty boxes and no way was i going to chance UPS with one of those. I like the bike shop idea. i've also bought boxes at U-Haul and other places and just cut them down to just under the oversize 1 dimensions to save money. these days i always keep an extra box in the garage so i do not have to hunt under pressure.

I've been able to get the really nice Taylor acoustic shipping boxes from them at no charge. They always have boxes in their recycling, too.
