Gave it a vintage flair (Jazzmaster Content)
Question: I recently got hold of a beautiful 96' Jazzmaster that someone was selling on CL. It was in mint condition, all original, pup covers & knobs had already started to turn yellow... just nice. However I wasn't really digging the guard, it looked plain, and I don't know why it still looked like new.. perfectly white. So I decided to age it, give it a little more mojo without going too crazy. What do you think? Answer: the pickup covers are still white. Answer: :idk: whichever Answer: the pickup covers are still white. I didn't want to mess with them because they've already started to turn yellow, they are off white right now. I'm sure those along with the knobs will wear out nicely with time and heavy playin':p Answer: Looks pretty good, how'd you do it? Answer: Honestly, I don't particularly care for the way it looks. You're right, the original guard is too white. But what you've done makes it soon much worse than the rest. I think you went too far. I would consider getting a cream colored pickguard. Answer: what we think is meaningless. we will never see the guitar in real life. what do YOU think of it? Answer: its aight Answer: now the rest of the guitar looks too clean! but the pick guard does look good. Answer: Nice but I prefer the Jazzmaster with black pickguards so you can't really see the lead circuit buttons.... Answer: Honestly? It looks like you put a not-so-good-reliced pickguard on a brand new guitar. I'd either relic the whole guitar (I've nothing against relics in general...) or put a new pickguard back on. :idk: Answer: I like Marc G's suggestion of a black pickguard. It looks a little strange with the "aged" guard and the white pickup covers and pristine body. Answer: Thanks for the suggestions, but I like how it turned out. I thought of darkening the pup covers and the knobs, but I think I'm just going to wait till they change naturally. Answer: I find it funny how people will try their best to lower the value of a fine guitar. Answer: I liked it better like it was, I liked the contrast between the red and the white. Answer: I liked it better like it was, I liked the contrast between the red and the white. ++ wtf it just looks like the pickguard is dirty now Answer: nope Answer: Sweet! Answer: It's alright either way. Answer: All you did was screw up the looks of a really kool guitar. Costs you to learn I guess... thinking of getting a bassman? The Googlewhack Thread?
