Love or hate the Epiphone LP Stock Humbuckers??
Question: I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Std Plus a few days ago and I think the Pickups are way good - don't you? O.k. - it's my first guitar with Humbuckers so I got nothing to compare but to my ears they sound good! I mostly play Blues/Rock (Allman Bros. Band...) What do you think? Would you swap them or do you love them? Bye - Ciao - Pfiat eng Jürgen:wave: Answer: The old OBLs from the early-mid 90's weren't that bad. Otherwise, I find them about as bad as SD Designed models. That ain't a ringing endorsement! Answer: on my Epi LP Std Plus they're great - can't bring myself to change em. Answer: Good enough for me not to spent the money to change 'em... Answer: I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Std Plus a few days ago and I think the Pickups are way good - don't you? Would you swap them or do you love them? Bye - Ciao - Pfiat eng Jürgen:wave: I quite enjoy the Alnico Classics in my Standard Plus, although I have been wondering about replacing them with something with a little more edge and a little less bass... but they sound so damn good they way they are that I'm not too sure about it. If I want more edge to my sound I can just pick up my Tele. Answer: I don't like them at all, myself. They sound like they're EQd really flat, and they've got a limited frequency range. I swapped out the stock pickups on my Custom with Duncans (SH-6b, SH-2n). The difference was night and day; I'll never look back! Answer: Otherwise, I find them about as bad as SD models. That ain't a ringing endorsement! So you think SD's are as good (think positive) as the Epi stock Pups? If they are as good - than why should people change them??? To me they sound great! Maybe in two years it's different (also swapped the CS '54 Pups of my 50th Anniv. Strat:p) Come on - let me hear some more. Answer: I think they have different suppliers. Some are really good and some are total crap. The pups in a G400 Custom i had were some of the dullest sounding pups I have ever heard but the ones that were in a G400 standard I had were fabulous. I think it's luck of the draw. Answer: I think they have different suppliers. That's an interesting point.:whisper: Answer: I have stock 90's "Korina" SG. Never felt the need to change out the pups or anything else. 100% stock, It's proven itself gigable in it's stock form sure enough but is not my main axe. I would change them out if it was my main player. I would go for something very dif'. Like a DiMarzio Super D in the bridge for starters. BTW, why even ask about changing them if you like them? Answer: The alnico waxed potted humbuckers that came on my 50th Anny Les Paul has really decent full bodied overtones. I like 'em enough not to change them. Answer: BTW, why even ask about changing them if you like them? I'm just interested how people think about this Pups. This are my first Humbuckers - so I just don't know much about a PAF sound or something like this... But I'm trying to learn:wave: Answer: Good but not great for me. I am happy using the Epi LP as a bedroom guitar but I think I'd go for a change if I wanted to use it for more. I have a set of rockfield mafia pups on another guitar and they kick out far more power and much clearer definition than the Epi ones when I run through the precise same rig. No idea what I would change em for, I figure I'll watch this thread closely too. A friend says go with the Zak Wylde emg strategy, but I'm not enough of a tech head to know if that's sound advice or the demeted ravings of a metal cretin. Answer: I think the stock pickups lack some of the pristine highs that better quality PAF style pickups have. So this can translate into lack of clarity of course. But I like the big warmth I get from the stockers. My DOTs are all stock. A couple of my Les Pauls are stock. And I have no plans on changing them cause through my all tube Marshall half stack they sound awesome! I recently picked up an Epi G400 and the stock pickups in it are amazing! They do have some really pleasant highs as well as great mids. It really makes for an extremely nice tone!! Answer: I love the stockers in my 2000ish LP standard, but i really didnt like the "Hot" hbs that came with my Flying V, dull and lifeless Answer: I have an Epiphone Standard plain top. I switched the stock pups to BurstBuckers. I just sold my Ultra that had 57's. I don't think either guitar needed new pickups but I can't leave anything alone. I do have the 56 re issue that I planned to change the P-90's as soon as I got it. They stayed. I really like how they sound. Answer: I have a Dot that I thought had good pickups ..until I put some Tonerider Rocksongs in it.Like the stock hardware its all OK until you put in better stuff ,Then the quality difference is obvious .A standard Epi is perfectly usable though. Answer: Mine sounded ok but quite muddy compared to the Bareknuckles I have in there now. It sounds stupid but it sounds more alive with the BK's Answer: I liked the ones in my Epi LP Custom. They were way better than previous years Epi Hums IMO. Lots of Output and very quiet with a lot of gain. However the difference when replacing the Stockers with the Duncan Custom Custom/Jazz combo was very noticeable. Plus I got More frequency response across the board and a much more pleasing as well as articulate sound was what I got out of the Pup change. Night and Day difference IMO. More Alive deffinately is a description I would use as well. Rate Dunlop's Wah pedals for me.? What the cheapest decent Mandolin? What is the best humbucker sized P90 pickup? Pretty Silly Cool Want it Pic inside. you decide? Guess this Splawn *vid*? Epiphone Masterbilt? Ordered my Green Berets? Revelation by robben ford? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.todayaq.com
