epiphone les paul standard

Question:
hey, my name is ruch and im new to the forums. i just bought a used epiphone les paul standard plain top guitar for 300 bucks american at sam ash music. it had all of its original stickers on it, no one even took the plastic off the pickguard and it didnt even have a scratch on it. i looked up the serial number and it was made in 1995. i guess my question is how good was the average les paul standard in 95 compared to the ones made now?

Answer:
Welcome to HCEG!
That's amazing that you found a guitar that's 13 years old and never had the stickers or plastic film taken off.
I don't know how the older ones compare. My oldest Epi Les Paul is from 2000 and it's GREAT!
Does your local Sam Ash have any newer Epis in stock? If so... try 'em out.
By the way.............. I know you're new and all, but its nice if you post pics of your new guitar and tell us what you like and don't like about it.
Lets see some pics!! :thu:

Answer:
I think the newer ones from 2000 are meant to be better, not sure, just what I have heard.

Answer:
it would be too much trouble to post a pic right now but it looked identical to the new ones. it plays real nice too i just cant believe its that old. the serial number is I05071804

Answer:
lol, nevermind it was made in 2005. i typed in Io5071804 instead of I05071804. OOOOPS. anyways what do you guys think of epiphones with similar serial numbers

It's much newer than you thought it was. :thu:
Edit: You beat me to it......... never mind.

Good find though! $300 is a good price, and IMO, if it's still mint with the tags and plastic, it's new. Even if someone owned it for a while. :idk:
I really dig the Epi LP Standard Plain Tops. They have a nice, classy look to them. Especially the honey burst.
Welcome to the forums!

I've got a Epi Standard Plus Top from around 2000 (I believe, I don't have it next to me at work). I loaned it to a friend and when I got it back it was strung with 9's. I prefer 10's on it.

Seems like a good price to me if it is in good shape and you like how it feels.

If it sounds good when you play it then I'd say you got a good deal.

Answer:
Newer is probably better anyway when it comes to imports/foreign-made (better consistency these days).

Answer:
I dunno about that man.. import jacksons of the early 90's were ridiculously high quality, you can hardly say that now. same with early import squiers\fenders and etc. late 80's are considered the best MIJ fenders.. etc.
I think the only company that has actually gotten better instead of worse might be epiphone.. but then again I had an older epiphone les paul that was just superb.

My favorite colour - Honeyburst!
The Setup was AAA+++ out of the Box!
The Pups of mine are really great! Great tone - very good sustain!
I L O V E her!

Well, to answer the original question. I have a 98 Epi LP Standard and let me tell you the quality is shit. Terrible wiring, components, tuners, fret work. I've pimped mine up to excellence now though.
I doubt the 95 Epis were any better. Hope the 2005 model brings you joy.

Answer:
If it was made at Saien in 2005 is it a 'Special Edition Custom Shop' model or something?
Korea only ususally makes 'tier II' Epiphones, Custom shops like the Zakk Wyldes and the Firebird Studio, LP Customs, and the Sheraton II.
Saien makes great guitars, and their 'Shine' line of their own makes is pretty cool if you ever get on their website.
