Question:
I was playing 1:30AM (I'm a night owl) and had been running through chord progression I've wanted to put into a song as the main riff for years. I had started out with my Sanatoga which for a $200 guitar has a surprisingly pleasant warm, full tone, and great ring out. IT happens to be a semi hollow, so it seems to have nice voice of its own. I switched over to my Fender( with the plywood body) and started playing that same progression and asked the wife which sounded better to her. She chose the Fender over the Semi hollow and asking her why she had said that the Fender wasn't as "chorusy" She preferred the more muffled tone of the FEnder. I have been noticingthat the Fender has a very unique growling tone I've never heard from any other guitar. I was using the Epi and the Vt999 Tube overdrive and using it with amps gain at 10 so I could have a lot of gain.I love the box, its basically a tube preamp and I'm never lacking for gain anymore. But back to it. The guiatr has a smooth growl to it. I don't know whether or not to like it or hate it.
I've been looking to get a new body and have found some at an Ebay store out of Australia. There is no where local for me to get this kind of shit, so Ebay is a valuable resource for me. But I have been seriously thinking on one of these:
It also happens that the only Sunburst finish I have ever liked is the Amber/cherry Sunburst like these have. They have the exact configuration I need too, HSS and routed for FLoyd Rose.
Its kind of neat becasue of how unique it is, but I just can't help but think its due to the fact it has a plywood body. As far as I know it might be the way vibrations runn through the body because of how plywood is madewith crossing grain layer per layer. Is this common of guitars with a plywood body, or the DiMarzio Super Distortion Pickup.
