Problems w/ my Tiny Terror: please diagnose!
Question: So, a couple of days ago I started having problems with my Tiny Terror. The short version is that I'm getting almost zero gain & breakup out of the amp even though I've swapped out both sets of pre- and power-amp tubes. I bought the amp new back in January, and last month I finally had to swap out the original EL-84's. I bought a matched pair of Groove Tubes from a local dealer, swapped 'em in, and everything sounded great. About a week later, I visited the Orange dealer in Seattle (Emerald City Guitars) and bought a different set of matched Sovtek EL-84's and a separate set of JJ pre-amp tubes. Since then I've swapped tubes a couple of times to try out different combinations. About 3 or 4 days ago, I noticed that my son had cranked the gain all the way up, yet the amp sounded clean. He said he couldn't get any cruch unless he dimed the gain. So I systematically swapped out all 4 tubes, but nothings seems to help. Now even the "clean" sound is whimpy. I called the dealer today, and they said to bring the amp in for servicing, but the guy I talked to said there was a chance that it was nothing more than bad tubes. It'll be about a week turnaround since they send all amps offsite for service work. I'm dropping it off this Thursday. I'm more concerned that something with the amp is frying my tubes. Any ideas what might be going on? I'm bummed... Answer: does the power setting have any effect? Answer: Do you mean the master volume knob (the TT only has 3 knobs: volume, tone, & gain)? Yes, the master volume does have an effect, but it's as if the amp is being played through an attenuator. Cranking it up makes things louder, but not not ear-splittingly loud as was the case a week ago. New CA Cargo? Type of pick you guys use.? Anyone still rocking the GT-8 Were they ever? OT: Anyone ever seen Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior? What the %^$**& I think the AG membership is "losing it". Seriously.? Poweramps for Modelers? The SONG is what's important?
