so do they make acoustic strings that...
Question: do they make acoustic guitar strings that are soft on your fingers? i bought this Fender DG7 acoustic used for $75 to bring on guitar lessons. my tak was starting to take a beating. anyway, the previous owner told me that he put martin strings on there and they are about 4 months old. when i play this guitar, it feels like the strings are digging into my fingers... like little razor blades. anyway, do any string companies make strings that don't feel like this? that are softer? Answer: i find that if there's too much friction at the nut that the strings seem more taut. martin strings are el cheapos, though. 4 months is pretty damn old for a set of them if he played them regularly. Answer: Maybe they're just too old :idk: I have some d'aquisto ones that have been on there for ages and still feel fine though, so maybe Martin ones are just shit. Answer: DR Rares. Answer: I don't use them anymore, but Elixirs have a wax coating that seemed to be easy on the fingers. Either way, make sure you're using light strings. Answer: Martin Silk and Steels. or just go with an ultra-light (10-47) set of whatever your choice of alloy is. Answer: Yeah are they .13 gauge strings? I used them for a while before coming to my senses. .12's sound just as good and play much easier. Answer: Lighter gauges tend to be easier on the finger tips until you build up some tolerance/calluses... And Elixirs help out even more IMO with their coating... Good luck Answer: I recently put a set of Rotosound lights on one of my acoustics. First time I've tried them. Lovely, lovely tone :thu: Not sure they are any easier to play than the Ernies I had before, but they sound great. Answer: Make sure the guitar is setup for comfortable playing and use an .011-.050 extralight set. Measurements are approx, .011 sets are harder to find but do exist, .010 acoustic sets are for just too light. Answer: I recently lowered the action on all my acoustics, following the instructions supplied by the blokes in the Acoustic Guitar forum. I was delighted by the improvement. /....php?t=1790709 Go to the "Unofficial Annexe", then click on the "Tech" button. Answer: I'm surprised no one has suggested flatwounds. I guess they are pricier. Answer: I've been using D'Addario EXP 12s for a few years. I don't know if they are harder or softer than something else, but I like the tone and longevity I get out of them. Answer: As I play electric most of the time and only rarely get the acoustic out, I use 10-47's on it so it isn't too far out from the 9-42's I have on my electrics. Answer: pussy. put a new set of strings on. Answer: pussy. put a new set of strings on. Answer: Probably just needs new strings and a setup. Answer: I use D'Addario Flat Tops. They are round wounds machined down to feel similar to flat wounds but still have a full acoustic tone. Answer: Martin Silk and Steels. or just go with an ultra-light (10-47) set of whatever your choice of alloy is. 10-47 on acoustic? You guys are a bunch of nancy-boys. :p I use 11-53 on my electrics for an ultra manly tone. I made my once a year trip to Guitar Center the other day and played a bunch of guitars that had 9-42s and I could barely play them. Answer: 10-47 on acoustic?
