How good is the BYOC Octafuzz ?
Question: I want to replace my RM vision octavia for something smaller. There is less talk about the octafuzz than about the other kits. I can't find clips or videos. Does it mean that the octafuzz kit isn't as good as the other kits ? Yeah I know octavia is less popular than big muff, rat... So who's tried it ? How does it stand towards the many boutique tycobrahe clones ? Answer: I wouldn't know.... but I have the older GGG version and it sounds fantastic. Their kit is cheaper as well, and the additional pre-gain control (I added it to my older version) is a very good feature to tame the beast, so to speak. It's a very fuzzy monster. They're basically the same octave circuit based around a tiny transformer. Answer: I don't care for the on/off octave switch but the pre-gain pot looks like a good idea. I will find out if GGG sells internationally. Is there a GGG forum ? Answer: I have the rocket shaped Roger Mayer AND a BYOC, and they're considerably different (BYOC more gain, probably due to transformer (RM's design has none)). Answer: I have just ordered the kit from GGG. :) With shipping to France & taxes, it's about the same price I would have pay for the BYOC kit + shipping from their Dutch dealer. 1 or 2 tone pots?
