Whats Fender doing with GUILD?

Question:
What happened to the Starfire iV and V? Are they gone for the time being? No great guitar permanity disappears.
But you would think Fender would want to profit off these. They are driving up the price's of the originals.
Probly the same things gonna happen with HAMER USA?

Answer:
There isn't any Electric GUILDS anymore is there? Just Acoustic?

Answer:
They could be making the best gibson knock offs.

Answer:
Whats Fender doing with GUILD? Ruining it. The Starfires and Bluesbirds were fantastic guitars. I was pissed when they shut down Dearmond but what they're doing to Guild is a travesty.

Answer:
I had an old Starfire IV that was a better sounding 335 than any Gibson I ever heard or played.
I bought it used in 1976 and it was old looking then. I have no idea what year the guitar was. It was a full hollowbody like an ES330 or a Casino. It had a huge sound to it.
It's a crime that they don't make them anymore. Just awesome guitars.

Answer:
Guilds SG wasn't a bad electric either. Came very close top buying a White one loaded with the SDs back in the mid-late 90's. Sam Ash carried them.
Sam Ash carried damn near "Everything" back then. Then came very close to running that business into the ground. Still recovering.

I agree with Pete. I have a vintage Starfire IV that is better sounding and playing than any 335 I've ever picked up.

Answer:
The Starfire bass is the best sounding shortscale I have ever heard. they really need to make some of these models.

Answer:
(imo) Fender bought out Guild and buried them. Too bad really because they could have slammed Gibson with a sweet Guild solid and semi hollow body line. I guess they would rather make a million variations of Strats and Tele's instead. Makes sense as it is all CNC for the most part anyway when making strat and tele types. Low overhead.

Answer:
+100 on the S100. I had a '74 I gave to my brother since I already had a "real" '74 SG. His still sounds and plays better.
The DeArmond line was awesome as well.
I'll never be able to get a Starfire IV now

Answer:
Seems like Fender is concentrating (for now, I hope) on Guild's acoustic line. I'd love to see what the new plant could do in terms of a semi- or full-hollow electric, though.

Answer:
What about them Guild Doublnecks they made for Slash ?

Answer:
Didn't Fender turn the Tacoma shop into the Guild USA acoustic division for a minute then shut it down completely? So not only did they kill any USA Guilds but also Tacoma? Isn't that what happened at least to the USA acoustic line?

Answer:
I'm a long time Fender player, but I have a lot less respect for them since they bought Guild which was based in Westerly, RI. My buddy was a repairman there for years, and they basically just showed him the door. The old Starfires are great guitars.

Answer:
As ex VP of Artist Relations for Guild when they were in Westerley RI (I worked with Clapton, Brian May, Aerosmith, Twisted Sister, Little Steven, John Sebastian, Roy Buchanan, Elliot Easton, The Judds, Johnny Cash and many, many others) It does hurt a little to see the proud "Guild" name just that- a name that has been purchased simply to rebrand instruments made elsewhere.
I have a few Westerly guitars- a few protoypes made for rock stars and lots of amazing memories. I think anyone with an eye towards investent should BUY vintage and near-vintage Guilds- Anything from Hoboken or RI should appreciate quite nicely.

Answer:
Screwing, what more can I say.

Answer:
Now they are churning out Guild acoustics in China. I'm worried about what they may do to Hamer.
