jcm800 clone - two clips.
Question: I finshed up the jcm800 conversion today (epiphone so cal 50 gutted and jcm800 circuit inserted). It sounds pretty decent so far.. im really digging it. Im giving it to my son to sue but at least its only 2 doors down if I want to rock out with it. Amp by itself: The cleans kind of suck because my preamp sucks and clips the signal... I need a better mic pre but I will live with what i got for now :D MEgadeth riff's, holy wars was boosted w/ metal zone (modded), the rest is sd1: I prefer the sd1, but the metal zone could probably be tweaked to sound better... Answer: should I add some knobs to all the empty slots in the front to make this thing kind of a sleeper? Im thinking so.. Answer: :thu: I finished my JCM800 clone this week also. It was a Superlead last week :o Did you have the gain on 10 on that clip? That sounds about like mine does. Now Im trying to decide how I want to mod it :o Answer: :thu: I finished my JCM800 clone this week also. It was a Superlead last week :o Did you have the gain on 10 on that clip? It was all the way up (minus a hair) on the teh megadeth riffs though. And Im in the same boat as you.. what to mod now :D Before I got it done I was thinking PPIMV... but after getting it built and playing it.. I dont really think its needed with a boost it sounds good at bedroom levels... and at somewhat loud tv watching levels it sounds killer. So, a loop might be on the mod list but I dont think it would be used much... I dont know what the hell to do.. but there is a schem for the jose mod floating around I might give that a whril since thats apparantly what green day used on dookie and its one of my favorite tones (even though Im not a punk or even a green day fan) Answer: I found out tonight my gain knob is acting up (like a switch with a pop on the extremes of the turn), so I am thinking I am going to replace all the cheap Weber pots first and hopefully it takes care of that problem. I have an extra tube slot installed, but just dont know if I am going to use it yet  I do think the main thing I want to do though is a resonace/deep knob. I will probably do that first. I dont care for the one on my sloclone, I keep it turned all the way down anyways. Post up how you like it when you add it Answer: Ive been spoiled by my 5150 :o I like a big low end. Did you run a buss wire to the back of all the pots? Im debating removing mine when I re-do the pots. I wonder if that has something to do with my weird problem also. Answer: Sounds kickass. :thu: Answer: Nope, no ground bus on the pots. :thu: I removed mine today, and moved some stuff around. After getting a major squeal, I got it worked out by replacing that stupid pot. I am definitely replacing all of them ASAP. I bumped the slope resistor up to 47K, and loving that. Maybe I will try 56K :) Starting smal until I get in there and replace some of whats in there. Have you thought about adding a 4th tube stage? Answer: sounds good. just for kicks try a mxr ten band eq in the front. it has a gain on it. thats what i used to use on my 2203 Answer: :thu: I removed mine today, and moved some stuff around. Im content with a boost to add gain as needed. What is the slope resistor and what does changing it affect? sounds good. just for kicks try a mxr ten band eq in the front. it has a gain on it. thats what i used to use on my 2203 I've been wanting to get one for a while anyways. I might just pick one up to give it a try. Although Ive heard that the 6band is noisey when using it as a boost... is the 10band noisy? Answer: Its the 33K in the EQ section. Raising it a bit lowers the mid frequency, and makes it scoop a little more. I suck? Ran Into A Problem? Epiphone SG Mods? Avatarspeakers.com? Jazzmaster pickups in something other than a jazzmaster? I don't care how good the tone is? Wiring help needed? 5:25 or 5:50 ? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.todayaq.com
