Justifying your gear!
Question: I get asked all the time "why do you need so many amps and guitars" Here's how I use my gear: Amps Mesa Rectoverb - gigs and living room practise Vox AD60VTX - family room practise watching TV/band practise Crate V32 - Every Sat and Sun at Church/some band practise Tonelab - Computer, jam along with songs and to record ideas Guitars Les Paul - Practice with Mesa Ibanez Artist - All gigs (including Church) Epiphone LP - Practice in family room with Vox Dean Sarasota - w/tonleab thru computer Guild X-88 - retired (occasional gigs) but there to remind me of how cool I used to be  There you have it...I just justified all my main gear. :thu: Answer: you have different amps for praticing in different rooms of your house:freak: Answer: I just answer "because I can" what's your excuse Answer: if I pay for it in cash(and not have any other bills) than thats all the justification i need Answer: Its my hobby, I pay for it myself and earn the money honestly. Everyone spends a lot of their hobbies, this is mine. Answer: Mesa RectoVerb - Recto Tones Mesa F-100 - F-series/Markish tones Peavey Classic 50 - Classic tones ADA MP-1 - Tube sound, MIDI flexibility Rocktron Chameleon - Flexible, MIDI, built-in FX Carvin T-100 - EL34 tones (need to put some in it, though) Marshall 9100 - Got a great deal, and it looks badass But mostly...I buy gear because I have a small penis, and it's cheaper than fast cars. Answer: it's an investment. much of it appreciates. Much of it is immediately liquid. I'm not spending the money on drugs, hookers, or gambling. Answer: :idk: one amp at the band space, one at my appartment Answer: you have different amps for praticing in different rooms of your house:freak: LOL!!!! What happened there was that my Mesa was too good just to leave upstairs and my wife (bless her heart:love:) thought it looked cool with my Les Paul so that combination ended up in the living room with the piano. The Vox is the amp that gets the most practice time in the family room though. The Vox tonelab is just a wonderful PC tool. I use it to play along with songs and to keep my lead chops up when I'm in between bands. Answer: I don't justify anything, I just buy shit and have fun with it. Answer: I don't buy a lot of gear. When I do buy something, my primary considerations are: Will it make a significant improvement in the quality of my sound/playing & will it pay for itself in terms of usefulness in gigging or recording. Its a hobby but I try to run it like a business. I don't care to have extra stuff that I rarely use. Answer: Its my hobby, I pay for it myself and earn the money honestly. Everyone spends a lot of their hobbies, this is mine. WIN Answer: Its a hobby but I try to run it like a business. I don't care to have extra stuff that I rarely use. That's the hardest part. I'm addicted to delay and chorus pedals and always have too many. The same is true with amps and guitars but I've gotten smarter about it. I sold my Crate VC508 because it honestly NEVER got used. I have a Crate G60 and an Arbor Strat copy which was heading for Craigslist but my 9 year old (who plays amazingly on piano) has started picking up the guitar (mostly by himself)...so he now has a starter rig :thu: Answer: I get asked all the time "why do you need so many amps and guitars" Here's how I use my gear: Amps Mesa Rectoverb - gigs and living room practise Vox AD60VTX - family room practise watching TV/band practise Crate V32 - Every Sat and Sun at Church/some band practise Tonelab - Computer, jam along with songs and to record ideas Guitars Les Paul - Practice with Mesa Ibanez Artist - All gigs (including Church) Epiphone LP - Practice in family room with Vox Dean Sarasota - w/tonleab thru computer Guild X-88 - retired (occasional gigs) but there to remind me of how cool I used to be  There you have it...I just justified all my main gear. :thu: My mother and my brother bust my balls all the time about that. That's true and especially the way I've purchased my gear (used), I'll either make money or come close to braking even on everything if I decided to sell.
