A funny sound coming from my Little Giant
Question: Hello friends. I got a Black Heart Little Giant half-stack about a month ago. It was my first all tube amp and I love it. However there seems to be a nasty problem with it. Whenever I played the 4th or 5th fret on the 6th string or the open 5th fret I would get a buzzing sound. Everything else played fine, just those notes would cause the problem. Now, it may just be my imagination, but it seems to be getting worse. I'm now hearing the buzz on the 3rd fret of the 6th as well, and it kind of seems like the buzzing itself is getting louder and more noticeable. I tried the same guitar with another amp, and didn't hear it so it can't be the guitar. Upon further inspection it does not seem to come from the speaker, but from the amp head. Even further inspection leads me to believe that the sound is coming from the transformer. Does any one here know what the problem might be? Is it major (I'm afraid that it might be)? I'm not too worried because it should still be under warrantee, but still. I'd appreciate any help. Answer: rattling tube. :thu: buy new ones. Answer: I get a wicked buzz with my Valve jr everytime I play a B at the seventh fret. Turns out it is my toolbox across the room resonating at that pitch. You sure this sound is your amp? Try playing in a different room ? Answer: Hm. I'll try that. Answer: Check the spring loaded ring holding the power tube. Answer: It could be a screw/component in the head resonating at a particular frequency. It could be a microphonic tube. Answer: I don't think it's a microphonic tube. That's actually what I thought at first, but I tried that pencil test, and got nothing. Answer: If they are the stock tubes....you should replace them anyway. Fender American Deluxe Strat HSS?
