Kind of but it refers more to a release which studios are sure will perform well shoring up lesser titles and making their year end look rosy even if it’s the only film that has made tons of money.
It’s a stupid idea that should be shelved IMO. Without Sigourney Weaver there’s no reason to make an Alien movie.
Answer:

If done right, AvsP could very well be the best of the lot; ever since reading the comics and some of the books, I've been waiting for this. I just hope they keep the spirit and story sense that some of the literature has created.
Also, I for one won't miss Sigourney Weaver in an AvsP film; it would just ensure the film sucking like Alien 4.
Oh, and there is a comic Alien vs Predator vs Terminator - lets hope that one never sees the light :)

The creature was always the star of the movies, and having a bunch of marines caught up in a huge predator/aliens fight sounds damn promising; much more than "Ripley wakes up in random location and finds aliens have followed her yet again".
Answer:

I think that in the right hands this movie could be fantastic but to give it to Anderson was a stupid choice :brickwall (and no Ripley is not needed in an AvP film, just as Arnie isn't either)
Answer:

the character profiles given in the filmjerk link suck,
Alexia “Lex” Homer: In her late 20s, Lex is stunning, buff, courageous, and intelligent, as well as the heroine of this film. She is an environmental researcher hired by Weyland Industries to keep everyone on the expedition “alive,” as the head of the company puts it. A tough cookie, with a good sense of humor, she has a history of guts and glory having been the youngest to climb Mount Everest without oxygen tanks. Lex is initially second in command to Max Stafford, but when all hell breaks loose, she must assume full leadership of the remaining crew. She is not only a survivor, but a true warrior as well.
Sebastian Wells: Wells is an American archeologist in his early 30s who is very passionate about his work. Described as “unshaven and rumpled, yet also handsome and charming,” Sebastian joins the team and has an instant chemistry with Lex. His expertise, and fervid beliefs often has him butting heads with his boss, whom he feels has his priorities askew.
Verheiden: A tanned, muscular European, Verheiden is an Egyptologist who is just as much “at home with manual labor as with a text book.” He also has a romantic history with Lex, which ended rather precariously. This is evident when they are reunited on Weyland’s team, and Verheiden notices that Sebastian is his likely rival. The casting agents are looking for someone who speaks with a strong accent.
Charles Weyland: In his early 40s, Weyland is a driven billionaire industrialist with blue eyes and shock of dark black hair, giving him the air of a sportsman or movie star. This zealous, all-knowing patron of science has a secret beneath his virile bravado and cultured manner: He is dying of cancer. He is a man rapidly decaying, with his signature 9-iron golf club really serves as his cane and his cataracts disguised by blue contact lenses. Weyland has no intention of dying without first leaving a legacy for humankind. He finances the expedition, chooses its team members and insists on coming along— no matter what the consequence to his health.
Max Stafford: An “elegant, handsome man of Afro-Caribbean descent,” he is well over 6 feet tall and speaks with a clipped, precise English accent. Max is Charles Weyland’s right arm - a loyal spokesman and ex-soldier whose job is to assemble and lead the expedition team.
Quinn: He is muscular, arrogant and brutish, a leathery skinned Texan who is in charge of the expedition’s drill team. Quinn must face the aliens alone, and ends up narrowly escaping death. According to the character notes, his second confrontation with the enemy doesn’t go nearly as well, it seems.
Miller: A dedicated scientist who looks the part. He wears thick glasses, and his age is undeterminable. He's also a bit clumsy and is self-effacing and awkward around women - something Lex notices firsthand. A chemical engineer, Miller is an integral part of the expedition whose astute observations and knowledge of metallurgy help unlock the mystery behind Weyland’s discovery.
they might as well just make a gap advert:gag:
i'd love the film to work but i cant see it being a great success with characters who'd be more at home in the tv show thirtysomething:suspect:
Answer:

"human scientists going on an expedition to Antarctica to lure Predator hunters, using Alien eggs as bait. Of course, these plans quickly goes awry and the humans find themselves in the crossfire between two warring alien species".
Anyone else spot the huge flaw which goes against everything previously established about the Predators. :oh-hum:
Answer:

Great, so it's going to be a cross between John Carpenter's The Thing and the original Predator movie.
Just shoot me now.
Or let ME helm the damn thing!
Answer:

Hmm - so they've decided not to go with Cameron, who was clearly interested in Aliens - but not if this abortion went ahead.
Ah, Studio Execs. Do you think they have their critical faculties surgivally removed when they become one?
Answer:

I already know this is going to rock - they might as well have made this film just for me cos its got everything (bar Arnie and Hudson!) that will make this film a riot!

I know what you mean, but not really a flaw as such IMO....I think the Predators prefer hotter/tropical climates, but I don't think their physiology is adverse to colder climates [God, that sounds like such a fanboy comment :dork: ]
Looking forward to this, and actually glad that Ripley's not in it :gag:
Answer:

They can fight in the cold......
I guess the first two films for Predator could reflect a hunting party/trip in holiday trophy gathering mode (wow! Look at the climate there!) where this one aims to show a Predator/Predator group in full hunt mode, travelling anywhere to fight strong opponants.
Wasn't at least one of the comics set on an ice field somewhere?

I'm with you on this one. "They only come in the hottest of summers" or such words, quotes the sweaty :norty: girl from Predator.
And went down to LA in the summer as the TV weather news reporting record heat levels????
Answer:

I posted ages ago my thoughts on this. Rather than an all out SFX fest I'd rather see an Enemy Mine style movie with only 3 protagonists.
Heroine (has to be a Heroine) survivor of crash landing on uninhabited planet followed by attack by sole (almost unseen) Alien that slaughters rest of survivors . Finds wounded Predator, who it turns out was hunting the Alien, having bought it there on his ship deliberately for the hunt. Realises only way off planet is to help the Predator. Lots of stalking, jump-scares, shadows and implications of betrayal by Predator, but ending in Heroine betraying Predator and leaving planet in his ship.
Not a lot of dialogue opportunities I know - but could be 90mins of scary stuff.
Answer:

Thing is that a single Predator clearly outmatches a single alien(afterall, for all their losses the marines in Alien did achieve quite a respectable kill ratio, and the Predator is harder then an individual colonial marine).
Oh, and btw, in your storyline the trusting Predator seems to be a victim of a selfish protagonist:D(shes no horoine, the Predator would be a better hunter without her getting in the way and then she's nicks his ship;)).
Answer:

Hmmm - but the Aliens in Aliens were MUCH wimpier than the one in Alien, and the Predator is wounded....
(I could geek on for hours :p )

Answer:

i thought harsin was referring to the predator wouldnt be lured by eggs as it wants to hunt something dangerous and an egg wouldnt (especially with that mask on his face)
Answer:

Pulse Rifles? Kid's stuff! The Alien in Alien managed to peek at Sigourney's gusset without exposing itself....

"And already this year it grows very hot."
Huge flaw IMO!
Answer:

Samuel L Jackson HAS to turn up at one point and say very seriously "The parties over!".
Then whip out a minigun that fires purple bullets.
Then John McClane HAS to be drafted in to arrest the extra terrestrial terrorist threat.
Then Will Smith has to fly an F16 over the area while screaming "Do not fire that green ****** at me!"
Then the army of the clones HAS to turn up to clear the area with big missiles.
Then they have to take off and nuke the area from space.
(It's the only way to be sure.)
Then I'll be happy with this film.
Or maybe not.
I hope it will be great, fingers crossed, but I think that the director is absolutely abysmal.
Cheers, Brock.

Loved the bit about Samuel L. Jackson firing purple bullets from a machine gun.

Yeah same here, The alien creatures in Aliens look much better than the CGi crap in Alien resurection. Also the Preditor is great as a guy in a suit.
Answer:

I'll go with that; Mr predator needs to be a huge guy in a suit, with the Aliens being a combo of again suited performers and CGI. Kind of amazing isn't it how once again Anderson makes a MAJOR cock-up in the story, primarily regarding the heat-thing?
At least this film should be set in the future, unlike Predator 1 (fantastic) and Predator 2 (okay.)
Answer:

if they are going to make a disapointing film i would rather they made a disapointing Predator 3 than a disapointing Aliens Vs Predator................
if they cant do justice to the idea of a A Vs P film, leave it alone rather than ruin it
(altho' when it comes out i'll be one of the first berks trying to book advance tickets):suspect:
Answer:

just my 2p: Anderson doesn't make great films, but he does make (IMO) entertaining films. I liked Event Horizon, Soldier, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat. Nothing great there, but highly enteraining in their own ways
also, Predator 2 came out in 1990, & I'm not sure when Alien 4 came out, but it's an easy way to kickstart both franchises again (like Warners were going to with Batman vs Superman)
One of the Dark Horse Predator comics series was set in the snow, so I would guess they're not basing it solely on the films logic.
Shame the guy who played the Predator in the films is no longer with us. :(
Definitely agree with the above though; Man in Suit! NOT cgi! :)
Answer:

Predator: Cold War was the comic series set in the snow. IIRC it concerned a predator ship that crash landed in the south pole.
Answer:

The fact that the film is being shot in Prague indicates like a warning siren the fact that the budget of the film can't be that large. Dungeons and Dragons ($30m) Highlander: Endgame ($15m) Wing Commander ($30m) and Resident Evil ($30m) were all shot in Prague to drive down costs. Fox know that Anderson's biggest successes has been with lower budget fare (Mortal Kombat cost $25m taking $70m in the US) so logic suggests that the budget for this film might be in the $35-40m mark...
Answer:

great directors can do good things with medium sized budets, shame in this case were dealing with a run of the mill director

LXG has a budget of around $80 mil, and Blade 2 was fairly large too - doesn't that harm your theory...?
Answer:

Wasn't XXX filmed in Prague as well? I thought that had a decent sized budget?

They shot some of that in Prague. $85 million budget. They should have just thrown the money away if you ask me :|
Some of Mission: Impossible was shot in Prague as well...
I don't see why Alien VS Predator won't have a large budget, as some of the producers behind both series have been very successful. Joel Silver, Lawrence Gordon, Walter Hill. They could throw alot of cash into this and get alot back.
