Bruce Almighty

Question:
Just finished watching this new Jim Carrey flick and thought it was excellent.
Carrey plays a TV reporter who has lost his way and seems to be getting nowhere in life and blames GOD (Morgan Freeman), for most of his problems. Freeman then gives him the chance to sort things out by letting Carrey have his almighty powers for a while.
Some really great laugh yourself sore moments, as well as some more toned down ones as well which Carrey seems to have no problems with pulling off.
Jennifer Aniston does a good job as his girlfriend as well, and after seeing 'The Good Girl' and now this, I'm finally getting to beable to see her as not being the character 'Rachel' from Friends in all her parts.
Highly recommended!
Answer:

This film has received rave reviews here and doubled the take of Martix this weekend. I haven't had chance to go and see it yet, but its definately on the list to see.
Answer:

They may not be in the Scorsese/De Niro league but a Carrey/Shadyac collaboration is good news in my book.
Answer:

definitely looking forward to this one
saw the trailer and thought it was hilarious

it's only got 48% on RT now, but it has knocked the Matrix off the top spot in tickets sale!

ditto
BUT, that's always a worry if all the best bits are in the trailer (some of the imdb.com comments suggest this may be true). In our household we reckon there's an inverse quality relationship between trailers and films. Heck, I saw the trailer for matrix reloaded and thought that was good until I saw the whole film.
Answer:

It's a fairly good film - some definite laugh-out-load moments, but as seems to be usual in recent Jim Carrey movies, by the end if descends into a loads of shmultzy nonsense.
Still, the mid-section of the movie where Carrey starts exercising his godhood is very amusing.
Summing up, I'd say it would be great as a DVD rental, but I'm not sure it's worth traipsing all the way to the cinema to see.
Answer:

When's it out here?
Answer:

Had a pretty bad review from Tom Brook on Talking Movies and I've got to admit it looks pretty awful.

Answer:

Just saw this, I think is a enjoyable couple of hours. Really amusing scene when Bruce (Jim Carey) uses his powers, some really lough out loud moments (literally, and believe me, not many film actually make me laugh out loud). Jennifer Anniston was good in it too, not once I thought of her as Rachel in Friends.
All in all, I think I would buy this on DVD.
Answer:

In other words Ace Ventura III; think I'll pass.
Answer:

Its great!
after Majestic, Man on the Moon its great to see Carrey return to what he does best! :)
Answer:

I really enjoyed it, it's lighthearted and good fun but with a few little things to make you think at the same time... Well worth seeing!
Jim Carey is on form!
Mark
Answer:

Found the first hour or so of the film to be quite entertaining. But after this Carey began to great on my nerves and as usual he goes over the top too many times.
I'd give it 6/10 (just watched Anger Management and it was far better).
Answer:

If you like Carey you will like this simple as that really.
I enjoyed it anyway.:)
Answer:

Great film  Carrey great as ever and Rachel, I mean Aniston plays a good role too... even Morgan was great!
Allround good film, I've just ordered Ace Ventura 1&2 and Me, Myself and Irene
Oh and if you think Anger Management is better than this you need shooting :p No offence.
Answer:

If you hate "Dumb and Dumber" type humour but enjoyed "The Truman Show", then you should enjoy this.
It's definitely not Ace Ventura 3.

Which is a pity, as that is my favourite OTT character of Jim Carreys. :D
Answer:

I saw this today. It was OK, not 'wow' quality but I don't regret watching it. I thought it was better than Anger Management myself (waste of time), but it reeked of 'The Mask' (except there was no baddy this time). Most of the funny bits were in the trailers, but there's still some left. I'm not going to bother buying the DVD though
And I have to say, Jennifer Aniston was very good, better than I was expecting
Answer:

I got to see this earlier this week in Germany and did quite enjoy it. I'm a fan of some of Carrey's films (Ace Ventura, Cable Guy etc) when I'm in the mood but I'm equally annoyed by some of his other movies. (Ace Ventura 2 for example.)
I found the first 10-20 minutes a little slow and didn't find the jokes in this part particularly funny - strictly in opposition to the rest of the audience who were almost in the aisles - but by the 15-20 minute mark when Carrey gets the powers and starts having fun the film really picked up and I enjoyed it for the majority of the way through to the end until the quite annoyingly sentimental ending - not unexpected - arrived.
As an aside, despite the basis of the story, I had never really thought of the movie in a particularly religious context (well, it is Carrey!) and so when a colleague mentioned that they were put off from seeing it when it gets released here due to the quasi-religious background I was a bit surprised.
Having seen it, I'm completely convinced that the film's story is simply a plot device to allow Jim Carrey to be given some super powers with which to have a little fun - "no ship sherlock" says the masses :). It could easily have been the same film if Jim had simply stumbled across a magic lamp containing a wish-fulfilling genie. In case there are any readers here with similar religious concerns to my colleague, this may be of interest. Perhaps...
Anyway, it was a reasonably fun film and by my observation should probably do good business in Germany... at least in the English cinemas anyway. (I won't predict on the mainstream dubbed cinemas since I'm far too biased against dubbing to have a clue.)
And it was good to see Morgan Freeman on-screen again. He's always good value for money. Jennifer Aniston is a bit bland in the film but does an adequate job.
Overall, out of five:

Saw this tonite...
One of my fave bits... post-it notes ;)

Saw it on Saturday, laughed myself silly at the ass-dwelling butt monkey and was in hysterics when Bruce was messing with Evan on his first show as anchor

Yep, it can be hard to predict how the dubbed version might do, but for what it's worth I watched the German version and it was really well-received by the audience... I enjoyed it a lot, too!
Dazza.

Man on the moon was an excellent movie :nono:
Have to say I thought that Bruce Almighty is almighty funny :D
Answer:

NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS LIAR LIAR. :)
Answer:

Saw this last Saturday for free at a special preview, thanks to my local paper.
Enjoyed it, although the 1st half was better than the second, where it started to go "hollwoody sentimental shmaltz" at the end.
Very funny in places, though, and excellent performances from Carrey and Moragn Freeman. Some great visual jokes ("post-its" ) and some very sharp verbal humor at times.
Overall    out of 5, and if I had paid to see it , I would have felt I got my monies worth.
Not as good Liar Liar, but still another good film from the Carrey/Shaydac team :)
(Sorry, I seem to have come over all Roger Ebert there for a bit :D )
Answer:

A good lighthearted, fun film :) Similar to Liar Liar, but quite deep in places. The best bit was When he was controlling Evan in the studio I've not laughed that hard for ages. It was childish at times, and I thought it was slow to start, but on the whole a nice 'feel - good' movie :)
Answer:

Saw this last night.
Whole cinema was in hysterics when
he was controlling Evan talking
Great fun :)
Answer:

Top film, really enjoyed it! Except for the obvious end but then what film is ever perfect? :D
Answer:

Really good film. Is it just me or is Carey's age starting to show now??
Aniston was quite good acting wise but looks wise she was top drawer. Some really funny gags although I felt too many of them were in the trailer.... My favourite other top Carey film is Me, Myself & Irene.
I recommend this and I'll be buying the DVD.
Answer:

Was it just me or did anybody else laugh at Morgan Freeman saying " alrighty then " after mopping the floor. Since it was Careys catchphrase in ace ventura . Same director did that as this film as well I believe.
Answer:

I really enjoyed this - and can see it turning into one of those 'classic' films in years to come.
Answer:

Really good entertainment, with some really funny scenes. All the main cast members were excellent.

You actually see Morgan laughing a little bit after he says that IIRC.

I went to see it on Tuesday night out here in LA. Cinema was empty but we was all in hysterics. Overall I thought it was a very good film, one I'll be ordering on DVD when I get back home.
Tudaisies!:clap::lol:
Also, loved the bit where...Bruce was trying to win back his girlfriend. Very funny. :D and the bit where he made the dog use the toilet to take a wizz!. I suggested that we could make my aunt's dog do that. Classic. :D
Morgan Freeman was excellent as always.
Answer:

Jim Carey plays no-one but himself in every film he's been in, Jennifer Aniston whilst good eye candy has been in an appalling, unfunny sitcom - persuade me......
Answer:

Saw this a few days ago with someone who has not seen many of his previous films. I thought it a sanatised version of his previous movies aimed at a more general middle of the road audiance. She really enjoyed it and I admit it was good but not as good as his best films. Worth a look.
Answer:

Parts of this film were so funny I almost coughed up my Maltesers.
Answer:

Saw this last night and all i can say is typical Jim Carrey movie... don't get me wrong i think he's a nice guy and alright actor but he's never really had any 'great' movies.
This one had its moments but didn't like the way it tried to be serious and funny at the same time.
For it being a comedy i was disappointed as i laughed more at Charlie's Angels 2 (altho that was mostly due to the stupidity of some of the ideas).
5/10 and not a DVD purchase
Answer:

THE most enjoyable film of the year so far. A great, fun film to watch. Carrey is as funny as always, though the biggest laugh didnt come from him. I have never laughed so much in the cinema and tears were strolling down my eyes. At one point, you could see the audience bending over laughing and almost literally rolling in the aisles!!!!
An excellent film and could just be one of my favourites. Roll on DVD...

Answer:

This is almost as good as Truman Show, I like to see the sentimental side of Carrey as he expressed in some of this film's scenes.
He is a very flexible character and I truly recommend the Truman Show!
Answer:

Went to see it today, absolutely hillarious film. Carrey back to his best. Freeman and Anniston were also very good.
Great entertainment, go see it.
Answer:

Not as good as the Truman Show or Liar Liar or Cable Guy for that matter.
All the funny bits were shown in the trailer, even my GF who usually loves all Jim Carrey films was disappointed with this.
Answer:

Well along with Charlies Angel I rate this as one of the most entertaining films this year. Not the best film ever sure but enjoyable, very funny and entertaining.
Answer:

Some great moments ended with the usual slapdash Hollywood sentimentality. I didn't think Aniston was that great - preferred the dog's acting.
Answer:

Just watched this. The storyline seemed almost an identical rip-off of Liar Liar. Like.....IDENTICAL! But not as funny as Liar Liar which is a shame.
