X2: X-Men United Vs Matrix:Reloaded
Question: **Only people who've seen both to comment in this thread or it's pointless** So, you've seen both films, X2 the underdog and Matrix: Reloaded the guaranteed champ. Now at the Box Office Matrix is obviously going to trample X2, BUT of the two big sequels of the Summer, which one sends you into fantasy Sci-Fi heaven and does one succeed more as a sequel than the other? Answer: I haven't seen both..... :( Answer: :oh-hum: :help: Answer: X2 is the better film and sequel Matrix does not live up to it's Hype or to the orginal Answer: I also preferred X2 over Reloaded - the latter being overlong and heavy on exposition in my opinion :( Answer: just seen matirx reloaded and really need to sleep on it. Also saw X2 which was good, perhaps better in fact. Matrix reloaded had some superb stuff in it: (the freeway, lots of smiths, the architect etc but wasn't as deep philosophically as the first. I'm not sayign the first was a philosophical masterpiece, it had pleny of flaws but it's vage ideas etc, well, there was something definitely very interesting in there... it's musings on life were quite fascinating.... this one didn't live up to it, the architect being perhaps one of the best scenes as far as that goes... but I dunno.... will have to ponder some more and tell u 2moro! :) Answer: X2 seemed like a live-action feature-length episode of an x-men cartoon, a continuation from the original movie but able to exist on its own. Reloaded seemed like a film whose only purpose was to serve as a filler between part one and three of a stretched-out "trilogy". I'll probably only watch this on DVD if I was to watch all three films on one go. I much preferred X2 over Reloaded, as it didn't have any 6th-form shallow philosophy tacked on, had better acting, and was a more interesting story irrespective of the previous installment. Both over-hyped though. Answer: X2 hands down as it functioned as both a sequel setting things up and as a quality stand-alone film. I enjoyed The Matrix Reloaded but a lot of the time it felt like an extended advert for Revolutions. I'll probably appreciate it more when I've viewed the entire trilogy. Answer: Another one here for X2, although I liked both. X2 didnt rely so much on its special effects(although there were quite a few). Answer: Loved both, but felt matrix reloaded was superior. Why is everyone comparing these two films? Both are action but both are very different movies. I preffered the Lion King to Alien Ressurection but no-one else is starting a debate on it :( ;) Answer: I will probably prefer X2 to Matrix as I am a longtime comic book dork and so will be incredibly biased. But I feel you cant really compare the two outside of the tight leather, but even then I hear Neo has switched to Armani now. I mean sure they are both comic book inspired ( The Wachowskis used to write comics ) but they are apples and oranges to me. Answer: X2 for me aswell but some of the effects on matrix where stunning although the opening sequence with the night crawler is on equal par IMHO.:notworthy Answer: Originally posted by The_Evil_Dean I will probably prefer X2 to Matrix as I am a longtime comic book dork and so will be incredibly biased. But I feel you cant really compare the two outside of the tight leather, but even then I hear Neo has switched to Armani now. I mean sure they are both comic book inspired ( The Wachowskis used to write comics ) but they are apples and oranges to me. Both are highly anticipated sequels to excellent debut movies (although the original Matrix is much more culturally impactful). Both have come out within weeks of each other. Both will have similar audiences. Both are Fantasy Sci-Fi. Both are about a group of heroes. Both are Summer Blockbusters. BUT the main reason is that The Matrix is being lauded as the second coming and X2, in comparison, was greeted simply as a welcome arrival and the beginning of the Summer season. I think it's fair to compare in the same way that Spider-Man was constantly compared to Attack of the Clones last year. Oh, and bananamana, do you seriously think these 2 movies are as chalk and cheese as the Lion King and Alien Resurrection??? Answer: Didn't think much of either film. I'll probably buy Matrix reloaded on DVD but I won't be buying X2. Thought something like.....Phone Booth was a better film than both. Answer: Originally posted by Barney_Tabasco BUT the main reason is that The Matrix is being lauded as the second coming and X2, in comparison, was greeted simply as a welcome arrival and the beginning of the Summer season. I think it's fair to compare in the same way that Spider-Man was constantly compared to Attack of the Clones last year. But the differing treatment can largely be put down to the fact that the original Matrix changed the way action films are made. It's impact on "popcorn" movies was as great as Star Wars back in 77, hence the heightened anticipation for the sequel. Personally, I loved both films but if I had to make a preference, then it'd be for Matrix Reloaded. It's not as groundbreaking as the original and the plot's a little cheesier, but there's more than enough there to keep a popcorn muncher like me happy. X2 was great, but as much of a comic book nerd as I am, I've never really been a fan of the X Men. Answer: I had this conversation with a friend yesterday and although i completely agree with the impact The Matrix had, it is still only 4 years ago since the original film so i think people are over-reacting a little. Anyway, i'm obviously not explaining myself well enough. I know WHY it is being treated with more hype and anticipation than X2, but i am just keen to see how the underdog fares. I'm just aware that Matrix: Reloaded has disappointed a lot of people and that maybe it isn't THE film of the Summer as many people (especially on this Forum) anticipated. Answer: seen both, X2 better by miles although Reloaded is still a must if you are a fan. X2 had depth, some originality, was true to the ideas in the comics and totally consistent with the first film: the same but more. Reloaded had, erm, not much depth or originality, and many of the same ideas as in the first film but somehow less. Also there was a way-overlong gratuitous sex scene in Reloaded that (like the PB/HB one in Die Another Day) I found unnecessary, corny and not sexy in the slightest: most music videos are sexier Answer: watched both. liked both. prefer x-men 2 tho. short and sweet:p Answer: Seen both and have to say that Reloaded really did live up to my hopes and trounced X2 which climaxed early with the opening scene in the White House. I can't understand anyone who says Reloded gave us little or nothing to think about as it turns the whole Matrix "reality" on it's head, but on top of that it really was/is a whole new level of action movie that will take some beating. After the recent dissapointments of EP2 and Bond I only hope some of the other movies this summer are as entertaining. Deaks. Answer: i'm looking forward to T-3, and return of the king later one this year. and of course the last matrix movie. is the hulk on this summer or next? Answer: Hulk is this summer. I'm expecting T3 to be pretty bad, and I'm waiting another year untill I can watch all three SE of the LOTR at home, haven't seen any yet. I think Charlies Angels 2 will be fun, LXG could be good and Kill Bill might be the only one to out-fight the Matrix's. Deaks. Answer: X2 was better. Matrix Reloaded was good though. Answer: X2 is a million times better, and i was a fan of both...till i saw reloaded! Sooooo dissapointed. The first hour was dull, with some awful acting and a pointless ten minute scene with them shagging and dancing etc which didnt advance the plot at all. Then we had around an hours worth of pretty decent action with some storyline progression. Finally we had a crap ending. WTF are they thinking making NEO being able to use his powers outside the matrix! Thought they were gonna do another kiss of life thing too. Ah well. Hope X3 comes soon :) Answer: X2 is my preference, because I understood what was going on... but there's no denying Reloaded has some set pieces that are burnt to my memory. Keanu for Superman! And the fight sequence with Smith went on longer even than They Live! Answer: It's pretty amazing really that X2 seems to be the favourite as a few months ago i would have put money on Matrix being the absolute favourite! Answer: The car chase is far too long and there's too much chop socky. The first one felt like the action came from the story line - this one felt like it was the other way around, as if the directors had said "How are we going to make the sequel even more innovative in terms of action and effects than the first one?" Why bother? If your plot and script doesn't back it up, it's just so much dross - like a bad record with a few hits on it. Having said all that, the last half hour was very good indeed. Unlike others here, I thought the sex scene was well played - but there was some terrible dialogue throughout and the sub-plot involving Tank's replacement was unnecessary and extremely dull. It was almost as if the brothers were trying to make up for the fact that Will Smith turned down the part of Neo by putting him in the film by proxy. PS I overheard someone after the film saying to their friends that they "thought the ethnic mix in the film was terribly interesting...." Now THERE'S a geek! *notices lack of relevance to thread and hurredly decides to do something about it* I enjoyed X2 more. Answer: The sec scene was pointless with all that danching and stuff. Didnt advance the plot at all in my opinion. Waste of 10 minutes. The script it very lazy, as something happens, and they can just say "Its because of the matrix" or "It has to be that way" What a load of BS. Answer: I'm surprised so many people enjoyed X2 - seemed a little dull to me, and there were none of the mutant v mutant setpieces that made the 1st film - the evil army guy was just a bloke in the end - hardly the kind of adversary that drives the imagination.. Anyway, a vote for M2 - can't compare to the original, as we've all been there now, but still a decent flick in its own right - but what price now The Hulk surprising us all and walking off with the blockbuster of the year award!! Answer: They probably included the s3x scene because it added poignancy to the rooftop scene later. Answer: Double Post Sorry. Answer: Originally posted by Deaks Hulk is this summer. Deaks. I am a big HK fan and I thought the Reloaded fights were pants but you are right about Kill Bill, it looks top notch! Answer: http://www.applegeeks.com/index.php The debate summed up nicely i think. :D Issue 16 if the link doesn't take you straight there. Answer: Easy win for the Mutants says Mr Stanton. Answer: Originally posted by Marts62 Keanu for Superman! Lol ... it actually felt like I was watching Superman towards the end of The Matrix Reloaded. After Neo failed to save Trinity after doing his Superman-esque flying, I was half waiting for him to turn back time by flying round the earth really quickly. Answer: X2 for me as well. Trying to create 2 matrix films in the time they did was a bad idea (Reloaded had some great scenes but at times I found myself getting bored) Answer: I've seen X2 twice and enjoyed it as much the second time as the first. Far, far superior to Matrix Reloaded. Answer: X2 hands down :notworthy Answer: X2 was nowhere near as good as the first film. It didnt have that tightly focused storyline. Just loads of action...Matrix 2 had better action and was still focused. Matrix all the way. Answer: Originally posted by Steve1977 X2 was nowhere near as good as the first film. Dunno what ur on about mate - the first film, although entertaining, wasnt particularally great. I loved the second film tho! Im just hoping we get gambit in the third :D Answer: It has to be Matrix for me as even though I enjoyed X2 I didn't find it all that memorable. Plus the actions scenes in Matrix Reloaded were different class. Answer: X2 by a long way :suspect: Answer: Seen both and I agree with the majority here X-Men 2 is a far more entertaining picture. I do think that the basic idea of The Matrix Reloaded is good however the execution of the film is shoddy and clumsey. As pointed out earlier what the hell relevance was the temple scene, as someone said to me it looked designed to sell the soundtrack like the opening scene in Blade with the New Order remix song. I found the fight scenes trying to do too much and overcomplicate things in Reloaded, whereas in the original film the Fight between Neo and Smith had you on the edge of your seat in Reloaded it looked like a bad Playstation game and made the infamous parasurfing scene from Die Another Day look realistic. Counter that with the amazing White House assault and Wolverines berzerker attack in X2 which were absolutely spot on. Finally and most importantly for me, Reloaded had no soul, no feeling I didn't give a damn about the characters whereas in X-Men 2 I did, which for a Action type of film is a must. Overall Reloaded was a big disappointment and X-Men 2 was a pleasent surprise (was dragged along by a mate who's a fan of the comic books  ) Paul. Answer: Suprisingly, I thought that X2 was a better film than Reloaded - had high hopes for the latter, but after seeing it today I was left a bit "flat". Not literally of course - that would never work. ;) Answer: Matrix Reloaded has much to impress, but it is a bit like running 3DMark on your PC - a series of impressive graphical displays, which, unlike a full game, has no story, depth or reason. X2 is far superior as entertainment, story and crowd pleaser. It also has a cetain amount of charm and heart which is missing from the Matrix. Saying that, the Freeway scene was  That one scene alone encapsulated everything that made the first Matrix such a classic. Pity it didn't run through the whole movie. Answer: Originally posted by Barney_Tabasco Saying that, the Freeway scene was  That one scene alone encapsulated everything that made the first Matrix such a classic. Pity it didn't run through the whole movie. Yeah, but even that was done poorly at times with waaay too much bullet-time. Like when the agent jumped on the car, crushing it's bonnet, that whole sequence took about 10 minutes (give or take about 8). I mean, come on, it's not like we haven't seen a car flip over before. I don't need to be cut back to it again and again in slow motion How long was this! Bloody hell, they spent a half an hour falling and shooting at each other. So they're both crap at aiming, but it was sooo slow and boring. And not only did they subject us to it once, but TWICE  Answer: Originally posted by Jay Yeah, but even that was done poorly at times with waaay too much bullet-time. I don't need to be cut back to it again and again in slow motion Yes, but the whole scene had momentum, excitement, thrills and an element of 'anything can happen which, up to that point, the film was seriously lacking. These are all elements that made the first so satisfying. Answer: Originally posted by Barney_Tabasco Yes, but the whole scene had momentum, excitement, thrills and an element of 'anything can happen which, up to that point, the film was seriously lacking. These are all elements that made the first so satisfying. I disagree. I've seen car chases before - loads of times. Other than a bit of bullet time, this was nothing new. The first was so satisfying because it was original back then, Reloaded has somehow managed to make it old and stale. Those two brothers really need to get their heads out of each others arses. They've been quoted as saying that that particular scene is the most complex in cinema history (which it may be) and the best (the cgi was poor considering the money they spent on it, but not as bad as DAD) and something along the lines of that scene will be cinema legend for the next 50 years or so. Sorry boys, but it was nothing spectacular. Incidentally, where the bloody hell was Link supposed to find a hardline on the motorway??? The film was just completely stupid, and I feel completely let down because I loved the first one (and still do) Edit: Thought I'd spoiler that, since I just realised this isn't the Matrix (spoiler) thread Answer: X2  I loathed X-Men, took my 8 year old to see X2 and was very surprised how good it was. Picked up X-Men dvd for a fiver from the dvd classifieds here and watched it again and really enjoyed it! X2 is better, but the orig is not bad at all. Matrix Reloaded - mmm not sure, need to see it again to digest fully. It seemed a bit of a mess with some amazing special FX scenes, which at times go on too long and push it over the edge. The orig film seems very well thought out, whereas Reloaded, at times seems to have been made up as they went along. My friend reckons the long secs scene was too show that these characters are human. Me? I agree with others - it was not needed. I am currently thinking, at the moment, that I didn't fully understand Reloaded, but I can't be bothered to ponder over it and as far as the "Matrix Concept" goes at the moment I can't be arsed with it. Whereas I can't wait to see X2 again and I will watch X-Men again very soon. So X2 wins hands down (at the moment) Answer: Originally posted by Jay Incidentally, where the bloody hell was Link supposed to find a hardline on the motorway??? The film was just completely stupid, and I feel completely let down because I loved the first one (and still do) Edit: Thought I'd spoiler that, since I just realised this isn't the Matrix (spoiler) thread Don't motorways/highways have emergency phones on them? Answer: Originally posted by KAC Don't motorways/highways have emergency phones on them? Perhaps, but there was no attempt made to guide them to one once they were up there. The whole scene just smelled of being put in there for the sake of it, and they'd rely on Neo to come and save the day - there was no real escape route! Answer: Does someone fancy compiling a list of every fault that has been mentioned so far in the matrix threads? I'd do it myself, but im trying to revise for my exam tomorrow!! Answer: The start, middle and end! Nice and concise, unlike the film itself! Answer: Yeah - but u try telling that to the majority of my mates - they are all saying it was awesome. And im getting fed up of trying to argue with them, coz it quite frankly wasnt. So a list that i could just e-mail them all with would be great :):dork: Answer: Direct them to this thread. In fact, tell them to visit any movie discussion forum or review site. Answer: I saw Matrix yesterday. I started to fall asleep (and this was in the afternoon) when Neo met Oracle and I dozed when Neo had his fight with Agent Smith(s). The rave and secs were a little pointless. But overall I actually liked it quite a lot. Not as good as the first, (could have had more character development) but had some great set-pieces. I thought Neo using his power outside the matrix interesting. Maybe people had too many high hopes for this. I thought I wouldn't like it, but I'll be buying the dvd X2. Before I was married, my first love was comics, and my true love the X-Men. I liked the first, but there was something (can't put my finger on it) missing. (Feel the same about Spider-man). I thought X2 was great. Its characters developed, the action was great, and the SFX were much better than the 1st ones. Wolverines attack was a dream come true, Nightcrawler in the White House, a highlight. and Magneto having some great lines. If I had to recommend only one of the two, I say X2 Answer: Neo using his power outside the Matrix is a worrying development. I think people are already concerned about the sequel. Will be interesting to see how well it opens in November after the bad vibes of this movie. Answer: It will open well, as most people will be hoping that it will repair the damage that the reloaded has done. Answer: Originally posted by Barney_Tabasco Neo using his power outside the Matrix is a worrying development. Perhaps we should be wondering whether he actually WAS outside the Matrix? :suspect: Deaks. Answer: Originally posted by Deaks Perhaps we should be wondering whether he actually WAS outside the Matrix? :suspect: Deaks. Yep, that thought crossed my mind too. Half of me really cares and the other half doesn't give a monkeys!! Answer: X-Men. Wolverine Rules:nuts: Answer: Thought the original X-Men movie was a complete pile'o'cack - no redeeming features to speak of. X-Men 2 was pretty good, however. Hard to compare X2 to Reloaded as one's an action sequel whereas the other is the middle part of a trilogy. Someone correct me if X-Men is planned as a trilogy - it seems fashionable these days. :| If I had to choose one to watch right now it'd have to be X2 - only reason for that is Reloaded has been sitting in the Xbox for a couple of weeks and has had its fair share of play time :D Answer: Someone correct me if X-Men is planned as a trilogy - it seems fashionable these days. Not really a trilogy so to speak, but from the very beginning the cast (and a lot of the crew I believe) were all signed up for three movies with a possibility for more to come. :p X2 also forshadows events that may or may not happen in X3 (depending on whether they follow one of the comic's storylines or not). :dork: Answer: Gotta say that i prefer X2 over matrix Answer: X2 is now the first film i have seen twice at the cinema, and...i wanna go again! I enjoyed it even more the second time - seeing all the little points they put in for x-men fans (such as Hank McCoy on the tv, and remy le-beau in the list of mutants in the office) nice little touches! Does anyone know if they are gonna do a X2.5 dvd release like they did with 1.5 - i have the 1.5, and i dont wanna go out and buy 2 (when it comes out obviously) and then have to get 2.5! Answer: I really did enjoy X2 over Matrix 2 - a great movie that i'm looking forward to the DVD release of :) Answer: Haven't gotten round to seeing X2 yet due to exams, hope to see it real soon based on what i've read.:) Answer: i prefered Reloaded actually. I admit Reloaded isn't quite as tight a plot as X2 but Reloaded has more impressive action scenes. With X2 i couldnt see what the fuss was about. I found X2 to be only marginally better than X1.
