Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - Box Office Predictions

Question:
They say that T3 has the chance of repeating history, as T2 did back in 1991, but what do you think? Will the $175m budget be paid off anytime soon? Does anyone still care about the Terminator?
Here are my numbers:
Opening Weekend USA:
$75,000,000 (2nd highest R rated movie, after Matrix Reloaded)
Totals:
USA: $275,000,000
WW: $600,000,000
I think the movie will become the biggest in the franchise, and although the movie looks impressive, it will rank last place behind T1 and then T2 being the best. I think critical reaction will be mixed, despite all this hype from Intermedia saying they protected the script with top security guards in the building, its that good...humm debatable. But still to the fan seeking special effects and gravity defying action and maybe suspense, it looks decent. I just hope its every bit as scary and suspensful as the first and second, and with the same care for the characters....here's hopes.
Answer:

If I'm totally honest, I hope the movie dies a death at the box office due to the lack of James Cameron involvement.
For years Arnie said he would never do another without Jim but several years with a bunch of underperforming pictures and suddenly he sees it as the only way to reignite his box office clout.
I predict a fairly big opening of around $60-$70 million, but then a fast tailing off. Although it will still make money, I cannot see, based on the truly awful trailers, that it will revive many peoples interest.
Just my opinion of course :p  :norty:
Answer:

I think it is really very difficult to predict how this will do... Could be a huge hit or a complete flop. I would predict an opening weekend of around $45 Mill in the US, going on to gross somehting like $175 Mill. Nothing to wonderful.
But If it is as good as we all hope, then this is a film that could really do well from positive word of mouth. Most people I know are all saying it will be crap.
I think it looks GREAT! And i cannot wait!
Answer:

Mr Stanton hopes it'll be a hit so then John Millius gets to make 'King Conan'.
I should imagine T3 will have a massive opening weekend $70-90 million but then it's all down to the film being any good or not...
Answer:

Personally I fear the worst..... :(
I'll probably hold off seeing it unless it scores highly on IMDB and on the DVD Times Cinema Review section.

Isn't that really blinkered mind. It could be a great film but you hope it dies because Cameron isn't involved!! At least give it a chance. Wishing ill on a film because you'refavourite director didn't do it (and indeed refused) seems a little like throwing toys!
Answer:

I for one hope that it belly flops as badly as John C. Reilly in Boogie Nights.
why? so that we neverhave to put up with Schwarzenegger's crap ever again
Answer:

I think it will be a surprised hit, just like Matrix is a surprised flop (meaning the film wasn't that good, not it won't make money because it sure will)
Answer:

Cameron is overrated IMHO. Increasingly self-indulgent and mawkish as the years go by, starting with Aliens and working up to Titanic.

A smartest thing that Arnie could have done is hold the company to ransom and say I'm not doing it unless Cameron is the director. No Schwarzenegger, no Terminator Movie. It's all Mario Kassar's fault anyway cos he didn't want to let Cameron have complete creative control over the story and script. Christ sake, Cameron made the Franchise, it's his concept, idea and story and it's some other EDITED that's stolen it from him. Would you be _____ off!!!!!:brickwall
I do like the look of the new film and I do hope it does well, I just think the makers should show Cameron a little credit cos of what he created.
Please check the T&Cs with regards to swearing.

Not letting Cameron have creative control is proberly a wise move. Have you watched his 'directors cuts'.....
(O.K he made the Abyss a 'bit' better.)

Oh boo hoo. It was Cameron's decision to leave the project. He couldn't be arsed after making that sinking boat movie.
01keith - You say they wouldn't allow Cameron full control? If not, then how come Jonathon Mostow got huge control over the movie?
Terminator 3 will no doubt make tons and tons of money worldwide. Willowtree's prediction sounds the most likely. You do forget that fans have waited for 12 years to see this movie. It'll be huge.
I'm sure T3 will beat T2, but T1? That might be a different story.....
All the questions will be answered on July 2nd!

That's my point!!!!
Cameron wanted COMPLETE Creative control and Kassar didn't want him to have it and they had a massive bust up. Cameron refussed to direct it and Cameron told Arnie to do it cos of the amount of money he is going to make from it.:(
:brickwall :brickwall :brickwall
I wonder what Cameron really thinks. Kassar is going to bleed the franchise dry now intill Arnie is really past it. They should have left it with the old Sarah ending on T2 and that could have finished the series off.
Lets just wait and see and judge when the film comes out, nobody knows at the moment whether the film is good or not. Time will tell.
"The TX has corupted my system" - Terminator
I like Camerons Directors Cut. Gives it much more depth regards to the Miles Dyson bits and Sarah's dreams!!!
Answer:

Ghosts of the Abyss was a massive hit wasn't it?
As good a director as Cameron is, he is not a guaranteed hit machine.
The Terminator is a guaranteed hit machine IMHO and I would expect it to have a massive opening weekend on par with Matrix Reloaded. Of course the figures will tail off quick if the film is rubbish but I am hoping that from what I know of T3, it will be a good action movie. Opinion will be split as usual and no matter who could have made the film, they would never have pleased everybody anyway. I can't wait to see it personally!
Not sure that a T4 will be neccessary though :suspect:

Yeah I know! - don't get me wrong I'm definately going to give it a go - as with all movies the 'don't judge a book by its cover' saying certainly applies. I just happen to love Camerons work thats all. :luv:
I still think the trailers look crap though :suspect: :gag: :p
Answer:

Newset trailer is far nicer and does without that crappy plane transformation thing. If there's a ton of machine war stuff it will be great to watch.
Isn't the music missing though. Now THAT's annoying.
Answer:

Cameron is my favourite director of all time. I have no doubt in my mind that whatever film he makes, won't disappoint me.
Here's my list of Cameron films in order of preference.
1. Terminator 2: Judgement Day
2. True Lies
3. Titanic
4. The Terminator
5. The Abyss
6. Aliens
All absolutley fantastic.
Just thought I'd share that with you ;)
Answer:

I don't give a toss how it does - all I care is that it is very good. If it isn't, I hope it is the biggest turkey of the year!
TBH, I think it was a HUGE mistake making a third one - it isn't needed. Lets hope I'm dead wrong.
Answer:

I hope they make T4 because i've got loads of Hollyoaks related gags lined up...
Answer:

Don't care about box office takings, I want to see a good film. Cameron or not, I don't care. Who knows what Cameron and Kasser said, I don't think Jim wanted to do a 3rd film anyway,

Oh, the irony. Let‘s be polite and say that Cameron was heavily "influenced" by a couple of Outer Limits episodes, Demon with a Glass Hand and Soldier. If memory serves I believe he was made to give credit/payment to Harlan Ellison who wrote both those episodes.
Answer:

I think Jim did!!! He made T2 3D as a follow on from T2 to carry on to T3!!! he says on the T2 3D making of!!!

Answer:

I don't think it's going to open anywhere near the level of Matrix Reloaded, more like an OK $40-50 million and then it might finish up just over the $100 million level. It faces stiff competion in the weeks before and after it opens, don't forget.
I think it's a sequel too late, IMO, though I'm curious to see it and would like it to be good.
Answer:

Initial reviews so far have been quite positive. Who knows, perhaps it is time that someone else offered their 'vision' of what The Terminator should be about.
Comparing T1 to T2, it's obvious that Cameron wanted to use the movie as a vehicle to ram a "message" down our throats whereas the original didn't go to such lengths, so who knows what he would have come up with for T3?

T2 came out 7-8 years after T1, and that wasn't too late. Believe!
Answer:

On a side note, If all the T-800 (and now T-850s) look like arnold, they wont be very usefull for infiltration.
If they just kill everyone that looks like Arnie and you have stopped your infiltrators.
Always bugged me that.:brickwall
Answer:

cameron did titanic didn't he.....
:(
Answer:

If its a good movie I hope it does well. The latest trailer is very good IMO..
It' a shame Cameron is'nt involved but the argument he created it ,he should carry it on,how dare it be made witout him etc etc is rubbish.
Lucus created Star Wars but he get's slagged off all the time and told to let some one else write and direct.
Sometime's change is good and a new director ,writer's could be what the franchise needed.I love T2 but some don't and feel it's just a reharsh of the first one with big explosians ....
Time will tell of course but to dismiss it just because the lack of Camerons involvement is narrow minded IMO
Answer:

I've got a bad feeling about this movie. I think it may turn out to be decidedly average.
What really wound me up and also made me think the movie ain't that hot was Arnies comment the other day. He basically said everyone must go and see T3 and make it a hit so they can make T4 - they are the either the words of a washed-up A-list star, a guy desperately plugging a crap film or both!!
Hope i'm wrong (not about Arnie - he can fall off the face off the Earth as far as i'm concerned) but about the film.

I actually believe these things exist today.......look at all these identical boy bands. Definitely being churned out of some factory somewhere in order to destroy mankind's will to live at the very least!
anyway, going to see the film regardless of any reviews/negative opinions.......don't really see how they can make a 4th movie anyway, unless of course Skynet decides to send yet another Terminator back to kill John Connor (by this point I would have figured out that plan sucked, but hell, 3 attempts without success - 4th times a charm!) and that's going to be getting a little tedious as that would say there's no way of stopping Skynet as it's a perpetual loop..........maybe they'll do something in the film to the contrary though......
Answer:

I herd the 4th, if made will just be the war agaisnt the machine's in the future .No Terminator sent back to Kill Conner
Answer:

Terminator 4 WILL be set entirely in the Future World, and will bring full closure to the Terminator films. Why the heck is T3 called Rise of the Machines? It's detailing the rise, which will then lead into a fourth film, showing the entire Future War backstory:clap:
An in regards to all Terminators looking like Arnold. THEY DON'T! Only the Cyberdyne Systems Model 101's look like Arnold. 102, 103 etc, etc, each look like someone else.

Studio Happy With T3
SUBMITTED BY Scooby

May 20, 2003 — Screen Daily spoke to Intermedia chairman Moritz Borman about the recent cost cutting that the company is going through. The topic of how the studio reacted to T3 came up. Borman had this to say:
"We have a first-look deal with C2 which we made when we went into business on T3 and obviously was also meant to include T4. And judging by the studios' reaction to T3 when we screened it to them five weeks ago, T4 looks like it will happen." Obviously any decisions about T4 will be made after the film opens in July.
Answer:

Get Ridely Scott to direct Terminator 4, and everyone will be hyping it.:D I remember him once talking about T3, so who knows, maybe we'll see a Alien effect, with different directors after Cameron doing Terminator films. And Cameron did the sequel to Ridely's Alien.
With Mario Kassar involved, COULD THEY BRING IN STALLONE, TO MAKE IT STALLONE VS ARNIE!!!!! IN TERMINATOR 4, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:thumbs: :D
Of cource, we expect T4 to be set in the future, no more time traveling, been done to death for now.
Answer:

If Skynet was smart it would send another Terminator to the point in time where Sarah had just destroyed the first terminator.

It would be good if they hire Michael Biehn for T4 so we can see him going to the time infiltration unit.

Well all the ones we "see" look like him.
With one exception, the one in Kyles dream/flashback isnt an Arnold model.
BTW, Whats your source of the other model numbers looking like someone else?
Answer:

Van Ling. And the Terminator in Kyle's dream was credited as CSM-102.

Well, yeah, the timing for T2 was perfect. The original had been a cult hit that got wider exposure on video, and by the time T2 was released Arnie was probably the biggest global action star of the time. But now....?
Hollywood didn't have much confidence in a third, if this movie had had to be completely financed by a studio, it wouldn't have happened. IIRC, Warners picked up US distrib rights for $60million, so they probably won't lose. Sony are distributing it in the rest of the world.
Answer:

I don't know myself, look at the bile being heaped on the Mtarix Reloaded.
Can't see T3 being anything other than total garbage. Arnie needs a hit desperately. His last hit was Eraser in '96. Since then its been downhill from then on, bad box office takings, panned critically etc etc.
I would love it to be a hit but it sdoesn't look good. Remember U-571?, wow was that ever a bad movie.
I still think the summer is alawys gonna be about the Hulk vs Matrix Reloaded
Answer:

Do some research. Arnold's last big money maker was End of Days, grossing well over $200 million worldwide at the box office.
Answer:

did Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines really take 4 years or longer to make?
Answer:

I think the lack of Cameron input can only be to the benefit of the film. He hasn't made anything worth looking at in fifteen years.
I watched "The Terminator" again tonight and it confirmed my long-held opinion that it's one of the greatest of all SF action movies - maybe the greatest - and that every film he's made since has demonstrated a deterioration in his talents, usually commensurate with the growing overlength of the movies. How could the same director who made this tense, clever and beautifully paced film have anything to do with the hopeless mediocrity of a lumbering juggernaut like <b>Titanic</b> ?
Answer:

Boy, am I glad I saw T3 (as I can proudly call it).
I liked the Hulk, Matrix Reloaded was good, but a lkittle flat, but Pirates and T3 were the films of 03 for me.
This is what Planet of the Apes (2001) should have ended on.
It was just perfect. The tone was suspensful, taunt, and proved you don't need a 2 1/2 hour running time to make a good involving movie for the audience (T1) was 1 1/2 hrs.
I really loved Arnie in it.
Like Harrison Ford (who also has hit fallow times recently) Arnie can command a kings ransom for Terminator 4, (I hope he will do it). Harrison Ford can command mega bucks for Indiana Jones 4.
Not many actors can do that.
I do like Arnold Schwarzenegger a lot as he's done a lot for children in inner cities and like our own Ewan McGregor does seem to put something back.
Ain't it cool that the one movie we want to see a sequal to wrapped itself up so perfectly.
I can't wait to see the future set T4 (the time-travel has played out for now), and see those cool, way better new H.K. jets and all the endoskeletons blasting away at the humans in the future war.
PS Keep Nick Stahl, he is a real star.
:D
