Paul W S Anderson drops Resident Evil 2!
Question: This from filmforce... "Apparently, Writer/Producer Anderson still hasn't found a director for Nemesis either. With Fox eager to shoot Aliens Vs Predator (with Anderson as writer/director) he's currently aiming for a release some time next year for RE2. We'll keep you updated as casting announcements are made and production begins." Is this a good thing or bad thing? Answer: I wouldn’t have thought Fox would want to do AvsP until they had Alien 5 nailed down. Can’t imagine Scott or Weaver being too thrilled at getting sloppy seconds when it comes to their go-round. Weaver is on record as saying that AvsP is a dumb idea. Guess it comes down to who they think is going to make them more moolah or does Fox expect audiences to soak up both? Answer: A bad thing cos this buffoon shouldn't be let anywhere near the AvP film, nevermind writing & directing it :brickwall so I wish he'd dropped that instead and taken on RE Nemesis :( Answer: This guy is one of Lenny Nero's favourite directors - 'nuff said. :gag: Answer: And what, pray tell, does Mr Nero admire about Mr Anderson? Apart from his *ahem* dubious method of entry into Hollywood (see below) i find him an unremarkable if not actually BAD director. I enjoyed Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon, loathed Soldier and the television film The Sight (a 6th Sense ripp off) and thought that RE1 hit most of the right buttons. Mr Anderson is right up there with Roland Emmerich and Brett Ratner. Slick but vacuous. Answer: SW is really annoying me - A vs P is a top idea, and if done right (or even just a half decent rip off of one of the books) could be the best of the lot. Of course, Alien 4 was a modern classic, and SW wasn't in it for the money at all :oh-hum: Answer: Mr Anderson was making the film version of the X Box bounce em up 'Dead or Alive' last week. He sets his standards high. Answer: What kind of 2 sentence uncomprehensible blurb of news is that? First he's writing and directing RE2, I heard that he might not direct AvP, now he's not directing either? Eitherway it's bad news! I want him to do both 100% Answer: Just leave it to Michael Bay - he's currently the finest action director in Hollywood, no contest. Answer: What about Kathryn Bigelow? Answer: Originally posted by anield What about Kathryn Bigelow? Puh-lease! Answer: Paul Anderson is king. I'm pretty confident that he can pull off AvP. It's a shame that another director will take the helm of Resident Evil 2. The first one was superb. :( Answer: Originally posted by BiscLimpkit Paul Anderson is king. Of Blockbuster's bargain bin perhaps. Answer: Originally posted by Narshty Puh-lease! Err why not ? Her films Strange Days, Blue Steel and Near Dark are all fantastic and im sure she could handle it easily. Bay is good and I have enjoyed all the films he's done but he's certainly nothing special. Answer: She also did Point Break which is a decent action flick. Answer: She's done nothing special since Near Dark (if you can call that special - in my humble opinion). Answer: I agree with mr woo she would be a great choice to direct. Also I think sub movies (K19 being Bigelows last movie) are a good preparation for big budget blockbusters e.g: John McTiernan: The Hunt for Red October - Die Hard Wolfgang Petersen: Das Boot - Air Force One Tony Scott: Crimson Tide - Enemy of the State Jonathan Mostow: U-571 - T3? Answer: point break is one of the finest action films made, not to mention one of the best on foot chase scenes and then theres the sky diving an surfing photography.awesome :notworthy Answer: Originally posted by SILVERBACK point break is one of the finest action films made, not to mention one of the best on foot chase scenes and then theres the sky diving an surfing photography.awesome :notworthy I agree it really needs a special edition Answer: i got the R1 version dts,the soundtrack is a little boomy to be honest and theres next to no features but the pic is good an the sound once you get use to the boom is great just make sure you have understanding neighbours lol. Answer: I've noticed Paul WS Anderson isn't the most liked director on this board. :D I thought Resident Evil was pretty good. Not great, but good. I've no idea currently whether him not doing RE2 is a good thing or a bad thing, but the first film had a cool vibe to it. Answer: Mortal Kombat is one of the worst movies ever. Answer: I mentioned on the Alien 5 thread, that Anderson won't be doing AVP until either Alien 5 is dropped or Cameron/Scott cannot fit it in the near future. Fox aren't dumb and there's no way that they'd risk ******* off two huge names in films to appease Anderson. Answer: Originally posted by TheoGB Mortal Kombat is one of the worst movies ever. it's better than KickBoxer. wide Answer: Originally posted by TheoGB Mortal Kombat is one of the worst movies ever. worse than street fighter? surely not Answer: Originally posted by TheoGB Mortal Kombat is one of the worst movies ever. You've not seen the sequel then. Makes the first film look like a masterpiece. Answer: I like Mortal Kombat. Sub zero's awesome. Answer: I enjoyed Mortal Kombat 1 for what it was: a tongue in cheek martial arts fantasy movie, with a handfull of entertaining fight scenes (and the first use of wire work in an american action movie, with it's use principally during the Lou Kang/Reptile fight). It ain't meant to be Star Wars, kids. It's a no-brainer action movie. And above par compared to a lot of the other junk that was around at the time. Judeg Dredd took less than $35 million, and Mortal Kombat took $70m. Danny Cannon can't direct film (television, yes!) Paul Anderson knows how to stage an action sequence. Answer: knows how to compose some credit sequences as well by the look of it ;) :p Answer: Ahem, yes indeed, Mr Anderson's dubious method of entry into the Hollywood industry. Yes, Mr Anderson and his cohort Jeremy Bolt removed the existing titles to an as-yet-unnamed movie, replaced them with thier own, and claimed that THEY had made the movie. This got them thier first Agent. Bolt has gone on record as advocating this form of plagiarism to get into Hollywood. In an interview for Sight and Sound, he said that neither himself or Anderson wanted to 'pull cable' on television for 10 years before getting thier first 'low budget' feature underway. So you know what you want to do if you want to be the next Paul W S Anderson, Mr Nero. Rip off someone elses movie and claim it's your own. Have a good script ready and Hollywood will fall at your feet! Answer: Originally posted by HighlanderTM Judeg Dredd took less than $35 million, and Mortal Kombat took $70m. Danny Cannon can't direct film (television, yes!) Paul Anderson knows how to stage an action sequence. No justice is there? Judge Dredd was at least a half-decent movie, with characters and real thought behind it. Mortal Kombat was just a terrible Bruce Lee movie rip-off with no characters, actors or ideas. :oh-hum: Answer: Mr Stantons going to brake in Hollywood with my new car chase thriller 'Shopping'. Answer: No can do, i've already ripped the titles off of 'shopping' and am calling it 'Cash and Carry'. The Agent thinks it's about Johnny Cash and his wife Carrie Cash.* *Yes, Mr Cash's wife is called Carrie. Hehe, I've long known you gotta cheat, lie, and step on people to get up higher. :nono: Answer: And what, pray tell, does Mr Nero do for a living? Myself, after gradtuating from the Northern Film School a few years ago became a television commercial and music video Director, and have now got my first feature film lined up starring Oscar-nominated actor Eric Roberts. So what do you do, Lenny? Answer: And what, pray tell, does Mr Nero do for a living? So does that mean you're now doing a straight to video movie then ? :D Answer: Originally posted by mr_woo So does that mean you're now doing a straight to video movie then ? :D Haha... yeah, that's funny. I mean I'm happy for Highlander's achievements but he tries so hard to sound cool that he'll fit very well with the self-important Hollywood crowd over here. Originally posted by HighlanderTM So what do you do, Lenny? Wouldn't you like to know... It's something illegal anyways, and I can't talk about it. :suspect: Answer: Originally posted by Lenny Nero Haha... yeah, that's funny. Im not having a go at Highlander per say more the fact that he talks about oscar nominated Eric Roberts whos career has now gone downhill so fast he'd do a film role for a cup of coffee  Answer: Resident Evil was one of the most awaited films for me ever, and Resi 2 is no different, the first wasnt perfect, but as long as the second one is better than the first it cant go wrong IMO. Answer: Hey, sorry guys, but i am fully aware of Robert's nosediving career. I still think the guy has a lot more acting ability than other MFI action stars such as JCVD, Dolph Lundgren et al. I'm proud to be working with the guy, and i feel that the film (which does have a theatrical release planned) will refresh the memories of a lot of people of just how good an actor he is. I hated the fact that he appeared in dreck like Best Of The Best 1 and 2 and the Dr Who tv movie. Answer: Yeah man you're making a film with a genuine actor plus you're going to get your film seen by a ton of people and I'd kill for that! The closest I'm going to get to that so far is having a ten minute short film I've just completed with semi-professional cameras, lighting, sound and editing equipment, shown at a small film festival put up by the uni. Lots of people will be there tho! Top of the world ma!....slighty :p Answer: Originally posted by HighlanderTM Hey, sorry guys, but i am fully aware of Robert's nosediving career. Fair enough and good luck to you :) I actually quite like Eric Roberts (and I even like Best Of The Best :D ) and do think he has good acting ability (he must have got the talent of the family as his sister sure as hell doesnt!) but the guy really hasnt done much to be proud of. Maybe he'll make some kind of John Travolta comeback eventually. Answer: Eric Roberts is superb in Heaven's Prisoners. Just to get things on track, I have to raise my hand in favor of Paul Anderson again: Event Horizon is a superb movie. Yes, its derivative, but I think its a brilliantly put together sci-fi horror movie. Soldier, IMHO, is under-rated, as is Resident Evil. Why does everyone, all of a sudden, have this rampant hatred of P.A. ? Oh, and I heard he was directing the Driver video-game to movie :p Answer: It would be so cool if Mr W S Anderson could sign up on the Forums and contribute to these threads! I think he should be given the chance to defend himself... I'm gonna e-mail him and persuade him to register  A. Answer: Originally posted by mr_woo Im not having a go at Highlander per say more the fact that he talks about oscar nominated Eric Roberts whos career has now gone downhill so fast he'd do a film role for a cup of coffee  It is nonetheless a statement of fact that he was nominated for an Oscar - and in an insanely crowded marketplace where you need to catch people's attention fast (I'm talking distributors at film markets rather than audiences), these things can really make a difference. Put it like this, I don't for one second regret casting a Best Actor Oscar nominee in my own sole film-making effort to date - at least that got us a foot in the door when it came to talking to US distributors! Is that the one set in an old peoples retirment home or something ? (apologies for the complete vagueness I cant remember it too much apart from the fact I fancied seeing it :) ) Any word on whats happening with it ? In theory it has a UK distributor, but I'd better not identify them as I'm not sure whether anything's been definitively signed on the dotted line yet! (My involvement with the film is largely peripheral now, as I'm too busy working on Screenonline full time). Answer: If Mr Sandbrook would like to e-mail me at eventhorizon666@hotmail.com and let me have a copy of his resume then perhaps we could see if there is room for him on the set of Black Mamba. Can't say fairer than that...:D Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.todayaq.com
