Jackie Chan's last good on-screen fight?

Question:
What was the last JC film that had a good extended fight scene. The one that springs to mind is Who Am I?, where he has a rumble with two guys up on a roof. That was made in '97/98 I think!. Was it his last good on-screen fight?
...BTW I'm thinking of picking up the HK version of Gorgeous. Does that have a decent fight sequence.
Peace..............or war. Dosen't really affect me either way.
Answer:

I think that last fight in WHO AM I is the best Ive seen from Chan. Shame the films crap and I can never be bothered watching till the end! :D
Answer:

The market/Singing in the rain set piece in the new 'Shanghi Knights' is the best thing he's done since Drunken Master 2.

I think after you've seen the stupendous fight between Jackie and Benny at the end of Wheels on Meals, everything else is downhill from there on. Can't really complain though....Jackie's not gettin any younger and he still moves fantastically for his age. He's given us the best part of his youth....just a shame that it took so long for Hollywood to accept him (but then again judging by the standard of Tuxedo, maybe that was a good thing :D )
Gorgeous is one of Jackie's lamer films and I'd only really recommend a rental at best. The action is mostly sub-par unfortunately.
Answer:

I think Gorgeous is a poor movie, save for the Shi Qui aesthetics. :norty: Surprisingly, there are quite a few people who liked it.
I agree about Who Am I? - although I like the whole of the movie. :D
Answer:

Who Am I also gets a thumbs up from me 20 times better than the terrible accidental tourist.
... I mean Spy ... :D
Answer:

Accidental Spy has its moments. Only problem is that it doesn't have a kickass ending that we expect from the Chanster.

I'd disagree about Wheels On Meals to be honest, excellent fight but I would pick the end fight between Jackie and Ken Lo in DM2 over it anyday. What a great kicker Ken is!
Answer:

You're all wrong - Jackie vs Benny at the end of Dragon's Forever :D
As far as his last good fight scene, I concur - the rooftop in Who Am I was quality
Answer:

The Jackie vs. Brad Allen fight at the end is amazing.
Shanghai Knights' Singing in the Rain piece was fantastic too.
Oh, and the rest of Gorgeous is great if you're not expecting a regular Chan movie.
Answer:

Police Story is the best when it comes to end fights scenes with Jacki againts mulitple fighters
Answer:

Haven't seen Shanghai Knights yet although its on my hitlist !
Best of the bunch IMHO have to be Drunken Master, Police Story and Gorgeous although you've gotta love this guy no matter what. The amount of pain and effort he's gone through to give his fans the best films possible is amazing, he's given 110% to everything he's been involved in and at his age he's still shaming actors half his age with his films.
Answer:

What are the fights in Gorgeous like? Are they more Rush Hour than Meals on Wheels?:suspect:
Answer:

is the fight in gorgeous were he fights that european dude?
or is it a different film
Answer:

Don't bother with 'Gorgeous' for fights - it don't deliver.
:)
Answer:

Any of these worth picking up action wise?
Accidental Spy
Rush Hour 2 (I hated the first one, but hear this is a lot better):suspect:
Mr Nice Guy

'Mr Nice Guy', of the three...
'Rush Hour 2' is great fun but if you didn't like the first, I dunno...
IMHO 'The Accidental Spy' is Jackie's worst film since 'Thunderbolt'...
:)
Answer:

Hey, I thought Thunderbolt was pretty decent. Maybe I'll like Accidental Spy?

OK. :)
It wasn't much good 'action wise' tho', no?
That was what I based my response on...
:)
Answer:

there are 2 prolonged fight scenes in gorgeous, they are both excellent, but there's practically no fighting outside of these 2 scenes. Go into gorgeous expecting a light romantic comedy & not a fight fest & hopefully you won't be disappointed.
Has for the person who said that after wheels on meals it was downhill all the way I've got to question what JC films you've been watching since viewing Meals on wheels! :p :D
Answer:

Hey Shingster,
I think I'll get Gorgeous now. Has a decent cast and prefer JC films were he dosen't go globetrotting and bumping into bad gweilo actors anyway.
Answer:

i wouldnt touch any Shu Qi movie with a 10 foot barge pole :D
cant stand her.
Answer:

I was never a fan of Miss squeaky voice till i saw So Close that was a good film and she was much better (but she was dubbed  )
Answer:

Last GOOD fight scene: towards the end of Rumble in the Bronx. Jackie vs the thirty thugs! Those kind of fight scenes really define what people love about his movies.
I did love the "singing in the rain" scene in Shanghai Knights aswell.

Didn't mean it like that  All Jackie's fight scenes are fantastic but I was only comparing these with his own movies. Relatively speaking, I don't think that fight scene has been excelled (even by the superb DM2). The almost poetic exchange of moves between Benny and Jackie is coreographed to near perfection....I've sat many a time just rewinding numerous moments from the fight marvelling at the sheer technical prowess of both.
PS I have a name - Angel Eyes ;) :D
Answer:

I agree Thunderbolt is ace. Particualy the cravan on a crane bit. Top class Jackie genius.

Absolutely - Thunderbolt is superb  The fight in the gambling arcade is quality
Answer:

Rumble in the bronx! Most of those scenes rule!
Answer:

Didn't care to much for Thunderbolt. The speeded up cars ruined it for me.. But the fight in the patchinko (sp?) parlor is excellent! Even if it's not Jackie in all the shots.
I belive Sammo will always make Jackie look good in fight scenes.
I also liked Accidental Spy. esp. the scene in the bath. (more comedy than fight though)
Hated the Tuxedo (I never tought I'd say that about a JC movie... ) :-(
Best (last) fight scene: Roof top in Who am I?
Answer:

I only caught the last 20 minutes of 'Who am I' on Channel 5, but was pretty impressed. However I'm a little confused witth all the DVD versions out there (searching on www.asiandvdguide.com).
Does anyone know the 'best' version (ie, picture, sound, most complete version) ? IMDB says that there are heavy cuts to the US version - http://us.imdb.com/AlternateVersions?0127357
The two that seem tthe most interesting are :
UK - http://www.playserver5.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=4161
HK - http://www.dddhouse.com/cms/dddhouse/en/index.jsp?action=productDetail&productID=555
Does anyone have any comments on these ? Ta ! :D

I think the 'best' version of Who Am I? is the Japanese R2 version. Its uncut and anamorphic. However I believe it is now OOP. It would have cost upwards of £20.
The HK R0 version (released by Universe) is uncut but is non-anamorphic. The picture quality is watchable although could have been a lot better. The good thing is that it is cheap from dddhouse. I have the R0 disc.
The version released by Columbia Tristar is cut. It does however have a very good anamorphic transfer.
Check out this review for some more info on the 3 versions:

Just watched Gorgeous and thought it was rather good. Can't believe people didn't like the fight scenes in this. Brad(Bred?) Allen was awesome and seemed to be perfectly in time with Jackies cheoreography. Felt like watching Benny the Jet vs JC in Wheels on Meals for the first time.:notworthy What other films has Allen been in?

Ah I always wondered if it was him, that was a neat little tussle by TV show standards, he seemed a little bulkier in that fight, so I wasn't totally sure if it was him. Cheers for that Emiaj, that one bugged the hell out of me at the time :dork:

Where can I get a region 0 copy of Drunken master 2?
I can't believe no one has mentioned the restaraunt fight scene from "Miracles"
Answer:

Personally, I really like the building site fight in Mr Nice Guy. Great choreography and the door sequence is a lot of fun.
The Tuxedo is without a shadow of a doubt the worst Jackie Chan film, only the Singing in the Rain bit of Shangai Knights managed to erase it from my memory.

Anyone know what exactly was cut from 'Who am I'?

I don't think any fight stuff was cut - the film was basically re-edited removing a lot of the early scenes in the African outback (?!). I still prefer the original version however.
