Hero - R3 2-disc DTS-ES
Question: Sounds like an absolute cracker! Hero review (http://www.electronicreality.co.uk/reviews/hero.php) Answer: tee Any chance of getting your reviewer to tell us if the opening and closing text is subtitled in English? (the R0 Chinese release didn't translate these bits, which was more than a tad irritating!) cheers Richie Answer: I don't own the HK release but I have read on www.asiandvdguide.com that the Edko HK release does indeed include subtitles for the opening/closing text. They actually posted the translation for those with the Chinese release - and here it is for you... OPENING TEXT: Two thousand years ago... during the Warring States period, China was divided into seven Kingdoms. For years they battled for supremacy while the people suffered. The King of Qin was the most ruthless in his efforts to conquer the land and unify all under heaven. He was regarded as a common threat by the other six Kingdoms. The annals of Chinese history are abound with tales of the assassins sent to kill the great King. This is one of the legends... (ENDING TEXT) Nameless was executed an assassin but buried a hero... Sky gave up his sword in honor of his fallen friends... In 221 B.C., the King of Qin conquered all six kingdoms and unified China. He ceased all expeditions and built the Great Wall to protect his subjects from the Northern Tribes. The Qin Empire became the first dynasty of China... And Qin Shihuang... the First Emperor. Answer: thanks kanedaa I just know I am gonna 'upgrade' /me goes away cursing my haste in buying the Chinese release/ Answer: Im still waiting for the directors cut :( Damn Di$ney and there stupid cuts to the film  Answer: I'm so gagging to get this film on DVD as i've only got a crappy vcd quality version on my computer, and hearing how good the sound is makes it even harder - didn't realise it was 6.1. I'm going to try hold out for a couple more weeks though, hopefully we'll see the extended cut come out. If not I'll probably grab the Edko version to hold me over. Answer: Any word about a Director's Cut edition or are you just hoping? Answer: I saw that the extended version was listed at w*w.av89.com, but I don't know anything about these suppliers, so I can wait... but the good news is that a release seems imminent  Answer: does that site look dodgy to anyone else? even the faq bit about pirate disc doesn't really answer the question :suspect: Answer: Originally posted by Richie tee Any chance of getting your reviewer to tell us if the opening and closing text is subtitled in English? (the R0 Chinese release didn't translate these bits, which was more than a tad irritating!) cheers Richie It is. Craig Answer: Ah well, I cracked :brickwall Just put my order in at CD-Wow. It's sounds like a great DVD anyway and I wouldn't mind having both versions of the film as I like it so much. Looking forward to hearing the 6.1 soundtrack too. Can anyone confirm if it's DTS 6.1 or just DD 6.1? Answer: I've gone for this as well - don't know much about it as I've avoided reviews etc so far - I was going to wait for the extended cut, but ultimately I'm weak. Answer: got mine this morning from cd-wow,and i wonder if anybody who has it could let me know how to get to the hidden menu, which has trailers and tv.spots.I cant find it at all. Answer: And the reviewer doesn't seem to understand what 16:9 means when it's written on that back of a DVD case. :dork: Answer: I just picked up 2 copies of the HK DTS version for HK$95 each. Pretty good looking set. HK had virtually sold out in the first week release but plenty available now.:) Answer: Originally posted by blakey got mine this morning from cd-wow,and i wonder if anybody who has it could let me know how to get to the hidden menu, which has trailers and tv.spots.I cant find it at all. There's a thread on Movies and DVDs about this but to repeat myself. Press 1 to 4 and it selects and enters the menu options on the main menu screen that are accessible with the arrow keys but if you press 5 it selects HERO in the middle which cannot be reached by the arrow keys and takes you to the so called hidden menu (as listed in the booklet as existing so more like the difficult to get into menu) Answer: Watched this tonight. Not too keen on the film but the DTS track is really superb. Answer: Anyone know how much of the extra features have English subtitles? The link to the review seems to think some of them do, but other sites hold contrary reports on this... Answer: Any news on the director's cut of this? I'm trying to hold on for it, but my will power is starting to fail... wide Answer: Originally posted by FlangeMonkey Anyone know how much of the extra features have English subtitles? The link to the review seems to think some of them do, but other sites hold contrary reports on this... Having just watched the movie and a fair amount of the extras I'd say that the short interviews included with the main cast bios have subtitles (you have to use the subtitle button to get the first one but after that they stay on english) and the meaning of the colours text is in english and there is an english option for the text for the main character descriptions but the making of section has no subtitles whatsoever which is a pity Answer: Is the film on a dvd-9 on this release? Answer: The 2 disc HK edko version is dvd-9. Answer: thanks :) Answer: Please can anyone post a link to where i can buy this EDKO version of Hero for the cheapest price ? :) Answer: here' sthe most common places: www.dddhouse.com www.coolashop.com <a href=http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?LU83C65N+http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1002548491/section-videos/code-c/did-106/ target=new>www.yesasia.com</a> http://www.cd-wow.com/index.php?affid=5502 (think they stopped stocking it or its on back order) Answer: My Hero has just been dispatched from cdwow, so they might have some back in stock now. Answer: Originally posted by megatron My Hero has just been dispatched from cdwow, so they might have some back in stock now. I'm just shocked that you took so long to get this. I've bought 3 already (2 for me and one for a cousin) and I'm looking forward to the DC at the end of the month. :p Answer: I'm still waiting for mine from yesAsia. at this rate, I can get the DC before this one :brickwall Answer: How come you need 2 copies for yourself Ono?:suspect: Answer: its a fetish of his, he has 2 of everything, one has to be kept sealed  Answer: :help: Answer: http://www.kcxdev.dsl.pipex.com/pics/ambulance.gif Answer: Originally posted by megatron How come you need 2 copies for yourself Ono?:suspect: :D One was the orignal China release (now sold) One is the HK DTS version - mine. One is the HK DTS version for cousin. Will get DC when it arrives as well. I was tempted by This (http://www.dvdasian.com/cgi-bin/dvdasian/15113.html) as well. Answer: WOW is all i can say after seeing this film tonight...its one of the best damn films i`ve seen in a long time ........tell me did this film win any Oscars at all? cause if it didnt then there is no justice ...superbly acted and filmed and what fight scenes superbly choreographed ....All in all a massive thumbs up, move over CTHD....  :notworthy Answer: No Oscars. :| I watched it again tonight at a friend's house (my 4th viewing). My mates were telling me that Maggie was better looking than ZZY - WTF?? Answer: Originally posted by Ono No Oscars. :| I watched it again tonight at a friend's house (my 4th viewing). My mates were telling me that Maggie was better looking than ZZY - WTF?? ZZY does look like a kid though :nono: Answer: Originally posted by platty ZZY does look like a kid though :nono: Not in my eyes. You could say the same about all 20 something Chinese girls. Answer: quote: Originally posted by platty ZZY does look like a kid though Not in my eyes. You could say the same about all 20 something Chinese girls. ...Try telling that to the Judge.;) Answer: Enough of this twaddle..........were getting away from the fact that it is an absolute BRILLIANT film:clap: Answer: I'm desperate for mine to turn up  Will post impressions when it does :) Answer: Mine turned up from Cd-wow today. Probably won't get round to watching till the weekend now unfortunately, but will test out the sound in some of the fight scenes later. Gonna have to be the Maggie/ZZY leaf scene DTS on ful blast me thinks ;) Answer: Originally posted by Splinter Gonna have to be the Maggie/ZZY leaf scene DTS on ful blast me thinks ;) The archer army attck on the Caligraphy school is a better choice. Answer: Originally posted by Ono The archer army attck on the Caligraphy school is a better choice. Yep that's gotta be best DTS test ;) Just played both scenes and i'm really impressed with the audio, the damn arrows almost deafened me as they flew past. Answer: One of the best discs from a HK distributor. Does anyone know if Edko are going to release the HK extended cut on dvd? I know there is definitely the Chinese release, but the cover art makes it look like a boot, so I want a HK version. :D Answer: I've recently become DTS capable and to sample the full bit-rate ES track on this disc was just awesome. Have to agree with you Ono and Splinter, the calligraphy school sequence was truly outstanding in its sound design! I haven't been a huge fan of Edko discs in the past but this is perhaps now the thing I treasure most in my collection, not just for its sound but also for the marvellous PQ. I watched this for the first time last night and I can't wait to watch it again! I know it shouldn't be funny but I was scanning through the credits at the end to find Fiddling by Itzhak Perlman; Additional Fiddling by Tan Dun  Answer: Just wanted to add how great all the menus are on the dvd, they're really nicely designed with accompanying music. The simple features like the "Photo Gallery", "Journey to Hero" and "Colors Behind Hero" I really enjoyed. Not sure of course what the extended edition will come with, but to all the Hero fans waiting it out for that version if you've got a spare £9, it's worth picking this 2 disc up as its got some great stuff on it Answer: What date is the extended version coming out ? Answer: Originally posted by undercover What date is the extended version coming out ? Mooted for the end of this month but don't hold your breath.:| Answer: Just watched Hero, and as one great Turkey manufacturer said, "boodiful".  Answer: Originally posted by megatron Just watched Hero, and as one great Turkey manufacturer said, "boodiful".  I hope you dont mean the film is a Turkey.....wash your mouth out   Answer: What a great film! Any word on an R0 or R2 DC release date? ohpleaseohpleaseohplease :notworthy Answer: Dorgan the only aspect ratio mentioned on the case was 16:9. So i took it that EDKO were saying that was the OAR rather than meaning it was anamorphic, their description is inaccurate and misleading which is what I was getting at in the review. there is no mention of 2.35:1 anywhere on the case!:brickwall Still... great film, i've watched it at least twice since writing that. Answer: How reliable is the source that there will be an extended version of the film ? I havent heard about it anywhere on the internet. Im desperate to get the movie but am holding out for the alleged extended version. :( Answer: Think I remember a while back the distributors saying don't buy pirate copies of the film as "we're bring out the proper extended by 20min version soon". That was a few months ago and you would have have thought we'd have heard something more on it by now. I would suggest you just go get it from CD-Wow, it's pretty cheap and a really excellent 2 disc set. If you love it, then after spending about £9 you won't mind spending more on the extended. Answer: I think the pacing of the current version is nigh on perfect, add another 20 minutes and it might start to drag in places. I've seen the director's cut advertised somewhere, it was up on av89. Answer: Originally posted by James45 I think the pacing of the current version is nigh on perfect, add another 20 minutes and it might start to drag in places. I've seen the director's cut advertised somewhere, it was up on av89. According to another thread they're no longer offering the directors cut for preorder so its release may be in doubt Answer: Who's the distributor of the current version? Has anyone tried asking them directly about the DC? Answer: I couldnt hold on any longer :( I ordered the normal version from CD WOW. Answer: im still holding out for the DC version .................. JUST :( Answer: Just watched it last night - A work of genius. Answer: don't hold out.... just buy it! Answer: Just posted this in a CD-WOW thread in the Bargain forum, but thought it worth mentioning here too: Just thought I'd mention that I've just picked up Hero (2D, R3) from the HK version of the site for £9.71 instead of £10.99 from the .com version! It was a great price to start with, but this has just sealed it! http://www1.cd-wow.com.hk/detail_re...4845&affid=5502  Answer: i wouldn't hold your breath for a better version of this anytie soon, Miramax seem to be holding up the directors cut with legal argueing and, this is horrible news, the new issue of total film lists the release date as being 2004 in the UK, don't think that UK R2 will be along anytime soon.........:( Answer: well, i'm convinced. not seen the movie - was looking forward to it this time last year but the negative press has made me forget about it. but i followed the cd-wow link back on page 2 and ordered the DTS version of hero as well as spirited away (also not seen). Answer: Hey i hope you like it :D Im still holding out for the Director's cut :help: Answer: Let us know what you think about it then in a couple of years time.:p Answer: Cheers mclh got it this morning & its total quality :) Answer: Originally posted by megatron Let us know what you think about it then in a couple of years time.:p Ive seen the film :D I just downloaded it ;) Answer: Originally posted by unrealnils Ive seen the film :D I just downloaded it ;) It's worth buying though for the extra audio and visual quality - oohh, widescreen too :D Answer: Originally posted by FlangeMonkey Anyone know how much of the extra features have English subtitles? The link to the review seems to think some of them do, but other sites hold contrary reports on this... I would say only 3 extras (out of dozens ) i.e. Heroes Behind the Hero Seminar, Colors Behind Hero and Making Of are left with no English subtitle. I wish the latter two had come with it. By the way, other extras are rich enough to make you appreciate the story. Short interviews with the director and actors are not to be missed as they provide some insights on the making of this film. In case someone hasn't mentioned it yet, there're hidden features which can be accessed through the word "hero" on the main menu of Disc 2, including 2 Trailers, 6 TV Spots, Photo Gallery and Artwork & Merchandise Gallery. This Easter Egg is not hard to find anyway. I have reviewed this EDKO version on www.dvddiary.com (http://www.dvddiary.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=4084&forum=2&start=0&increply=). It's in Thai though so I don't expect any of you to understand this (and babelfish won't work :p ), though some pictures I captured might be useful :) Answer: ANother nice looking review Chinnie. IS the bird in your avatar on that forum the same bird who stars in The Classic? Answer: Yes, Ono. You're after Korean flicks also? :D Answer: Korean flicks? :D You'll find me a regular contributor in THIS thread. Answer: Originally posted by Ono Korean flicks? :D You'll find me a regular contributor in THIS thread. You may be a contributor but with that unwatched pile you have you're slacking a bit  Plus I think talking about Sex Is Zero is the most popular thing at the minute  :D Answer: Originally posted by mr_woo Plus I think talking about Sex Is Zero is the most popular thing at the minute  :D I just can't belive that I am going to see the baps from the bird who starred in Phone :norty: Can't wait. :notworthy Answer: Originally posted by Ono I just can't belive that I am going to see the baps from the bird who starred in Phone :norty: Can't wait. :notworthy  Answer: Like a kid in a candy store ;) Answer: Originally posted by Ono I just can't belive that I am going to see the baps from the bird who starred in Phone :norty: Can't wait. :notworthy Who says she gets her baps out? Has there been any concrete evidence that this happens (e.g. screengrabs)? Shingster said sort of naked, so that could mean a bit of thigh or something. p.s. the Edko Hero dvd is truly top notch av quality! Answer: Yep, Hero is brilliant. One fo the best films of the year easily. I have been humming the music to this film all day. As for her Baps - we'll see. A bit of thigh is still nice though.:D Answer: Hi all Yes Hero is very good. I like see the color for display each difference style. Answer: I can't wait for the extended Jet v Donnie fight :notworthy Answer: does anyone know which bits are 'extended'? or has this been discussed already? Answer: Not sure the bits KC but i read an interview from a link found on bullets and it was with Donnie Yen and he talks about how his fight with Jet Li has deffintaly been cut down :| Answer: There's lost footage of the female stars getting nekkid ... hold on I'm confusing reality with fantasy again ... Answer: Yo been watching Sex is zero again :norty: Answer: Originally posted by Cirrus888 There's lost footage of the female stars getting nekkid ... hold on I'm confusing reality with fantasy again ... don't you mean you're confusing me with Ono Answer:  Answer: Originally posted by kcxdev don't you mean you're confusing me with Ono errhh? ... I don't think so ... not even if I was lobotomised ... Answer: KC :luv: :D Answer:  :| :help:  :gag: Answer:  Answer: :D Answer: Im a bit dissapointed with the fact that there was no sword wounds on the characters when they were injured\killed :oh-hum: It would have made the film just a little more acceptable for the realism fanatics. Answer: Originally posted by undercover It would have made the film just a little more acceptable for the realism fanatics. Realism fanatics really should avoid this film. I mean, I can fly as well as the the next man, but my bouncing off water technique needs a little brush up. :| Answer: Originally posted by Ono but my bouncing off water technique needs a little brush up. :| told you not to bunk the lesson, sifu wasn't best pleased, I've mastered it of course  Answer: Originally posted by kcxdev told you not to bunk the lesson, sifu wasn't best pleased, I've mastered it of course  Sorry! Answer: Originally posted by bruce-leroy  ;) As for realism, the same could be said about CTHD (to a lesser extent). I had ZZY in that as well. Answer: Hero is an art movie not a docu or a porno ... Answer: Finaly cracked. I got fed up with waiting for directors cut and have just ordered this along with So close. Answer: Originally posted by zantarous Finaly cracked. I got fed up with waiting for directors cut and have just ordered this along with So close. Hehehe now that you have ordered it, i bet you wish you ordered it even earlier  Answer: Originally posted by undercover Hehehe now that you have ordered it, i bet you wish you ordered it even earlier  That's my thinking, coz I gave up at the start of the week as well and ordered it from CD-Wow. I'd hoped to have it for the Bank Holiday weekend, but it's out of stock, so I've got to wait a little longer until next week :( Answer: For those that might have missed it there are two very brief interviews in English from Maggie Cheung and Donnie Yen on the Edko 2nd disc. You can find it in Heros>Cast and there's a link in the write up for each of the above performers. Just found this today after having another look through - it's nice to see an interview with these guys which I understand (although very short). Surprised at how well they both speak english, hard to pick up a chinese accent when Maggie's talking. Answer: Maggie was educated in London. Answer: That would be it then, cheers ;) Answer: And according to one of Bey Logan's commentaries, she was working in a supermarket down Chinatown. I never knew that! :D Answer: Tis true. I bought my copy of Hero from her last week.:D Answer: My copy of Hero ain't shipped yet and had no email to tell me that it is out of stock. Does anyone know what the score is on stock at CD-wow. Also they can no longer supply So Close. Hehehe now that you have ordered it, i bet you wish you ordered it even earlier Have to agree with you totally, especially now that I am going on holiday for two weeks on friday and all dvds are shipped to my work so I will have to wait a while before I get to see it. Answer: Zantatous - I received an e-mail from them last week saying it was out of stock but they expected new stock in on Tuesday this week - my order still says "Pending Dispatch" and it's strange because I just tried a search for the title to see what the stock status says and it doesn't come up on a search any more  Answer: Remember that CD-Wow carry a relatively small list and do remove many titles once they have been out a few months; the only exception to this seems to be Criterions, of which they have almost all... Answer: I e-mailed them this morning and just had a reply stating saying there had been a delay in receiving stock from the suppliers but that my copy would be shipped on 3rd of June. Luckily, my copies of Totoro and Laputa arrived this morning so I'm alright for this weekend :) Answer: I did email them and got a most bizare reply: Stock items will be dispatched within 48 hours and sooner if we are able and items temporarily out of stock will follow when available. This means part orders are dispatched as product becomes available and we do not hold up your entire order waiting for the out of stock item to become available. Pre-releases are dispatched within 24 hours of the release date shown on the website. The majority of orders arrive well within a week, although we kindly ask all of our customers in the UK to allow up to 7 working days for an order to bedelivered from the date of dispatch. So I still don't know when my copy is going to ship. Answer: Just had another e-mail from them to say it's now been delayed further and they now expect to receive stock on Thursday 5th - that's three times now  At least they have the decency to keep me informed Answer: After so many delays & a fair bit of timewasting, I finally watched this last night - absolutely magnificent; loved virtually everything about it, from performances to action to melodrama to the colours (oh, the colours) Great stuff :) Answer: Received this last week and finaly watched it last night and wow. What a great movie, the action and setting is fantastic. It really does look like a big budget Hollywood movie, but far better. What are Miramax doing holding back this film. I notice from one of the trailers that it saya worldwde release 2002. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.todayaq.com
