Has anyone seen "The Core" yet?

Question:
...and if so, what is it like? Is it worth 2 and a half hours of my life, or should I go and see something else this afternoon?
Answer:

im gonna see it tomorrow, but im going with the so bad its good attitude
Answer:

I'm watching it on Sunday, didn't realise it was on over 2 hours.
Answer:

After the movie's completion, a major studio, Paramount in this case, which is the most stingy, did the unthinkable, it offered the director an almost unlimited amount of money to go and add some super special effects, that's why it was delayed, now it opens tomorrow, I'll go see it, I'm sure to love it. As some critics say "This is what Armageddon wanted to be!"

This movie is obviously critic proof, so you cannot rely on their half-assed arty-farty (İTonyG) opinions. Only the bright minds of this forum can recommend or trash it. But beware, most of them are lonely geeks who want to be critics, so take their opinion carefuly as well. Most others will expect more or something else than the movie delivers. In other words, I'm the only one who can give you a clear and correct reflection of the film, tomorrow. :smokin:

It's not about seeing it first, it's about getting a "review" from an experienced and reputable source.
Someone who hates anything made before 1975. Someone who loves Ecks vs Sever & Resident Evil. Someone who watched more straight-to-video Olivier Grunner sci-fi flicks than anyone.
In other words, there is only one member of these forums fit for a job. When you need a review for a movie like The Core, who you gona call? Tastebuster Lenny Nero. :p

I thought Paul Ross was considered the de facto expert on such material :D (or has he quit ? )

You've already convinced yourself you're going to like it before you've even seen it! Some kind of critic
Answer:

Just got back. Not going to review it because Mr Nero thinks he can do a better job. All I can say is "would you like cheese with that popcorn?"
Answer:

I'll see The Recruit instead then.
Answer:

But it's got Stanley Tucci holding a cigarette and saying "But, what if we COULD ?"
Not much admittedly, but I'm easily pleased.

Lenny - I don't want to have a go and I don't consider myself a snob, I own Broken Arrow on DVD... but don't you ever ask for a little more than Resident Evil offered... not 'worthier' films, but a decent genre piece directed by a guy with an eye for real satisfying action (Paul 'W.S.' Anderson is Michael Bay-lite and I never considered such a thing possible - I own The Rock and Bad Boys) and free reign to direct a good film, not one that will please the backers and get a family friendly certificate?
I'm not suggesting you go and bury yourself in the entire Criterion back catalogue - you're right to only judge an action film on its merits as an action film and for pure entertainment. What's so surpising is that you seem to consistently sing the praises of the genre's most average efforts...
I'm definitely seeing The Core by the way, hope it will deliver, but sense that it may be overlong and a touch too serious :(

I didn't convince myself, I'm just excited about seeing it, that never guarantees I'll like it.

Well, the thing is I don't ONLY love films like Resident Evil, there are many other excellent, criticaly acclaimed movies that are my favorites, like Hurlyburly, Tailor of Panama, The Boxer, The Crossing Guard, Sweet Hereafter, etc.
But I am heavily biased towards sci-fi and unusual movies. I don't necessarily pick films that are universaly trashed to praise, it just happens that way because I see something in them others just don't have the ability to because I am such a supreme being and all  Often just particular elements of a movie is enough for me to like more than dozens of others, just the atmosphere, just the actor and his/her acting, just the situation of a movie and choices the characters make. To give an example of how much difference a little detail can make: Yesterday evening I was in my kitchen, the fridge was making this interesting noise, coupled with the strong winds outside, some of it winding down the fireplace, with a helicopter flying overhead and an unusual car alarm going off in the distance, added with mostly dark look of my apartment, all of that noise and atmosphere sounded almost exactly like the empty command section or cockpit or whatever in Alien, you know this monotonous futuristic noise. I decided to just stand there for 5 mins and enjoy it. If that bit was in some movie, I'd already like it.
Paul WS Anderson is so much more than Michael Bay, I think he is very talented and seeing as he hasn't made a bad movie yet, I, and many other fans, are excited and expect a great deal from Aliens vs Predator.
I also never let myself think of a movie as of one and particular genre, because people box them in and most of them cover much more. I never compare totaly different films to each other either, there is just something for every mood.
The Core for me starts in 5 and a half hours. Oh and if as you say it takes itself serious, all the better for it. We NEED movies like that taking itself seriously, it proved succesful for Reign of Fire.
Answer:

I've been to see the late showing of it. :D
Answer:

Well?
Whats it ffin like?

Answer:

I saw it yesterday.
1st 20 odd mins - great
The rest - a bit dull - but not without its moments.
I was fully up for all the cheesyness and it delivered in spades. If it had kept up its early momentum it would have been a great "popcorn movie" - but as it was, it ran out of steam a bit.
In short -
Should you go see it? - Flip a coin.
Would I buy it on DVD - probably not.
Tagline for the box "Probably the best stupid action film since Armageddon."
Answer:

I found the Dr Zimsky character very arrogant and annoying.
This film reminded me of Jules Verne's "Journey To The Centre of the Earth", it also reminds me of a film I saw on the TV last year funnily enough a TV movie version of "Journey To The Center of The Earth" made in 1993.
The effects were good but nothing we haven't seen before.
I basically think its Armageddon revisited instead thousands of miles under the earth's surface.
The film to me seemed rushed especially with the horrible text telling you at what point you are in the film.
But the thing is I really like these kind of films which makes it hard for me to be objective, but I would definetly have to say this is middling to the low end of these type of films I like.
As Solid State said the first 20mins were good and just flew by with so much going on, but isn't that the same with most of these sci-fi/action/disaster movies?
Worth the £5.20 I paid to see it? Only about £1.20 was worth it.

You will have no such pleasure my friend, this is just one of my Sig Specials, therefore temporary. The Godawful Library of stats will be back, though I'm planning on refining it a bit to add my counts of PC game CDs, software CDs, audio CDs, MDs, and books.
Hey, you copy/paste that image into every post as a sig to avoid its limitations, so... :dork:

That's a credit to Stanley Tucci, he did his job right if you're feeling this way.
Answer:

Well, it's all highly entertaining trash, but despite some decent performances (Tucci especially), it's essentially a retread of Armageddon (still the best blockbuster of the 1990s, just edging ahead of Starship Troopers), but without the star power, insane energy and berserk sense of humour.

I guess the difference being mine takes 3 sconds, whereas your little archive is a testamony to the amount of time you have on your hands! :norty:
