Cradle 2 the Grave Release Date?
Question: Rang Ster Century and UCI Blanchardstown today. Cradle 2 the Grave is supposed to be released on Friday, but they're not getting it in. They said they may have it Friday week. Looks like it's not goint to be released in Ireland. That's really bloody aggravating. Why does this happen in Ireland? :oh-hum: I'm a fan of Jet Li, but while Cradle 2 the Grave is probably not going to be a great film (as it's from the same chap that made Exit Wounds and Romeo Must Die) I'd still like to see it. But what amazes me is that The Core is being released. Why release rubbish like The Bore when Cradle 2 the Grave is being totally ignored? Answer: Isn’t there a date for the R1 DVD yet? Answer: Originally posted by Morpheus2000 Why release rubbish like The Bore when Cradle 2 the Grave is being totally ignored? because The Core is 12A rated disaster flick & has a huge marketing push from Paramount behind it, whereas Cradle 2 the Grave is an 18 rated (or 15 if you're very unlucky) martial arts fest with very limited appeal (plus it's from the director of Romeo Must Die & Exit Wounds - both of which sucked & AFAIK did no business outside the US) & any film that stars the 'hilarious' Anthony Anderson deserves to go straight to video. :gag: Answer: Originally posted by jonathan.e Isn’t there a date for the R1 DVD yet? I think I've seen it advertised on a web site saying 2 - 6 months so don't go holding your breath! Rag Answer: I'm looking forward to this  Think I'll probably be going to the cinema on my own though, as last time I took any mates to see a Jet Li movie (KOD) they turned up drunk, talked through it and then declared it crap after. ...And Bulletproof Monk looks class as well! When I went to see Jackass, the trailers for the above two films came on much to the mirth of the rest of the audience (who seem to find the title 'Bulletproof Monk' hilarious for some reason  ) I, however, turned to the girlf and went '' Answer: Originally posted by jonathan.e Isn’t there a date for the R1 DVD yet? 1st August apparently (http://www.enterprisesdvd.com/r1/view_title/22110/) Answer: Thanks. I liked Exit Wounds BTW, but then Seagal can do no wrong (Patriot notwithstanding) as far as I’m concerned. Answer: I've seen it & I can honestly say that the fight scenes are shockingly bad. Andrzej Bartkowiak has managed to do the seemingly impossible by actually getting worse as a director of action films. The editting & camera positioning is so poor I really don't understand why they bothered to cast Jet Li in the film at all. They basically work like this: Close Up (naturally) jet unleashes a punch, cut away to something else, cut back jet get's lucky fits in 2 moves, QUICK! cut away to something else, etc etc. Seriously I don't think anyone manages to string more than 3 moves together in a single edit in the entire film, oh & none of the fight scenes last more than a minute or 2. Dacascos is totally underused, I think he's there because he kinda looks Asian coz he's certainly given bugger all else to do (this includes the final fight with Jet Li which must run for an epic 30seconds if you ignore the constant cutting to DMX fighting some Korean bloke, naturally passed off as Taiwanese :D). Li is not the star either, DMX is given far far more to do & the storyline is centred completely around his character, Li is just there so they can have a chinese martial artist in the credits list (coz they certainly didn't incorporate him into the action scenes much! :D) Now I know this sounds like I loathed the film, but I thought it was better than utter crap like Exit Wounds & The One overall. it's not too dire just slightly dire :p prolly in the same class as romeo must die, but imo Romeo actually had better action (that's not saying much though). Basically if you're after the fight scenes I can safely say this is easily THE worst US film with a chinese lead when it comes to the action (Canonball run had better fight scenes than this) but it's not Jet's worst US film, that would have to be The One for me. Oh & one final thing Gabriel Union = DAMN! (she's grown up well since 10 Things I hate About you) :norty: Answer: Not sounding too good then (although Impact magazine gave a glowing review). Roll on Shanghai Knights I guess. :noid: Oh & one final thing Gabriel Union = DAMN! (she's grown up well since 10 Things I hate About you) :norty: She looked nice in Bring it On. Gabby and Kelly Hu in the same movie. Surely thats worth admission price? :norty: Answer: Originally posted by jonathan.e Thanks. I liked Exit Wounds BTW, but then Seagal can do no wrong (Patriot notwithstanding) as far as I’m concerned. Too many Exit Wounds bashing going on in here! :D Answer: Originally posted by bruce-leroy Gabby and Kelly Hu in the same movie. Surely thats worth admission price? :norty: Hmm not sure about just that fact alone but I can confirm that they actually have a scrap, so maybe the Hu-Union catfight is worth the admission price. :norty: I know one thing, the Union striptease is definitely the highlight of the film. :norty: Answer: I don't understand at all why people are dissing Exit Wounds? One of the better action films of the past few years, methinks. Answer: Originally posted by nc I don't understand at all why people are dissing Exit Wounds? One of the better action films of the past few years, methinks. Methinks not somehow :p :D Answer: Originally posted by Shingster Methinks not somehow :p :D me concurs somewhat  Answer: me concurs too. unfortunately as a video shop manager i can confirm the general public loved exit wounds, where's that 'i dispair for the future of the planet' smiley. Answer: Originally posted by jonathan.e Thanks. I liked Exit Wounds BTW, but then Seagal can do no wrong (Patriot notwithstanding) as far as I’m concerned. you obviously haven't seen Ticker or The Foreigner :nono: Answer: Originally posted by aprout you obviously haven't seen Ticker or The Foreigner :nono: Actually I haven’t. Read that Ticker was pretty bad but I haven’t even heard of The Foreigner. Answer: Originally posted by aprout you obviously haven't seen Ticker or The Foreigner :nono: I've not heard of either of those. Were they straight to video Seagal releases? Answer: I think so. Ticker also stars Tom Sizemore & Dennis Hopper, & can be found in bargain bins everywhere. I'm not sure if The Foreigner has come out in this country yet. The R1 dvd came out about a month or two ago I think, & was a 'dvd premiere' He seems to have a habit of putting on a lot of weight and making low budget rubbish, then going on a diet & making big budget rubbish :) Having said that, Half Past Dead is the best thing he's done since Under Seige. Thanks for the info. I might try to track down Half past Dead as I haven't seen that either. Answer: Originally posted by dezza (who seem to find the title 'Bulletproof Monk' hilarious for some reason  ) Maybe because it is utterly ludicrous. I'll see it, hopefully enjoy it tongue slightly in cheek, but come on... it's the sillies Hollywood title I can think of outside of a bad translation. Answer: Originally posted by jonathan.e Actually I haven’t. Read that Ticker was pretty bad but I haven’t even heard of The Foreigner. Its rubbish ... not as bad as Ticker though. No doubt it will be released around the same time as Half Past Dead over here, much like Ticker and Exit Wounds. Answer: I really want to see this but in Northern Ireland it's not being shown, well i should say in Belfast at least. Generally we'd get the films the same time as in england but its nowhere to be seen! Even if it is crap I would like to see it and judge for myself! Answer: I'am gonna watch it on Monday, at WB:thumbs: Answer: i saw it yesterday. thought it was actually really good. MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the one, and romeo must die. one thing to complain about tho, the UNBELIEVABLE LACK OF USE OF MARK DACASCOS! the last fight is cool though although it should have gone on for longer. one thing though what the hell did that thing do to M.D. at the end (the melting/burning thing) definetely a dvd i will buy. Answer: I wasn't disappointed by this movie. Fair enough, I really didn't expect much to begin with, but there were a few enjoyable moments. My biggest gripe is, not only was M.D. underused, Jet Li was definitely a just a sidekick to DMX. All Jet Li ever did on screen was beat the living crap out of people. I almost didn't like him in this movie. Plus, why does the director love having a million things going on at the same time, and intercutting between them? If each part was equally exciting, fair enough, but they weren't. The showdown was such an anticlimax and I think that let the whole thing down for me. Still, Jet Li on the big screen + UGC pass makes me happy. Then there was the final ending shot, when they walked away: Nice line up, only Jet Li wasn't in shot, wth? So far, Kiss of the Dragon is miles ahead of anything. Romeo Must Die was slightly more enjoyable than The One. Cradle 2 the grave... ah well. Just hope that Danny the Dog with Morgan Freeman will bring Jet back to form. Oh and one more thing (for tomos): I think it was just effects of exposure to extreme radiation, although maybe I think Jet should've felt the effects aswell. Hmmm :suspect: Answer: thanks, couldnt figure out why jet didnt get affected Answer: Originally posted by Shingster I know one thing, the Union striptease is definitely the highlight of the film. :norty: OMG! Damn that was good! :norty: Answer: Just seen it. I wanted to be proved wrong but I thought it was just okay and nothing more. Certainly unlikely to buy the dvd. The director Anton Whatshisname and his crew have no idea how to edit fight scenes. Very messy, and difficult to keep track of what is happening onscreen during the action. What is the deal with DMX? This guy should stick to his dayjob as I thought he was the personification of blandness. I have more charisma between my legs. He is certainly no Sam Jackson or Wesley Snipes. No more movies for this man please. Jet Li more or less plays the same badass we saw in KotD except his role in Cradle felt even more limited. He is good, but seems to be stuck playing the same character in his US vehicles. I wouldn't mind so much if the quality of the movie itself matched up, but it doesn't. Out of all the characters, Mark Dacascos was the one with the most screen presence, but is criminally given little to do except be the standard generic villain. As for the ladies, Kelly Hu was disappointing as her role is very small. However, Gabrielle Union is a whole different kettle of fish. That girl is damn fine! Who remembers the scene in the Mask where Stanley Ipkiss (in Mask mode) is going crazy for Cameron Diaz in the nightclub? Thats what I felt like doing whenever Gabrielle was onscreen. The plot could have been lifted from your average DTV B movie, but the action scenes were very disappointing. I think it says a lot that the most exciting scene in the movie is when Jet Li is on the rooftop, and uses a very unorthadox, vertigo inducing method of scaling down the building from ledge to ledge. Answer: Went to see it today, only 4 people in there watchin the film with me, but i did expect that. I thought it was a great Beer + Poopcorn flick. I'll get it on dvd in September, now if only Warner Bros would start puttin dts soundtracks on their dvds. I still enjoyed The One more than cradle but hey thats just me. Answer: Originally posted by bruce-leroy Out of all the characters, Mark Dacascos was the one with the most screen presence, but is criminally given little to do except be the standard generic villain. I liked him playing the bad guy in that Rutger Hauer film, shame he seems to be wasted in this ... I was hoping he'd get a big part! Answer: he was good in driven (or was it drive), and the crow series. (for a crappy series i mean). Answer: Good to hear that this film isn't that bad - I may watch it in the cinema as opposed to waiting for it on DVD Answer: I thought it was ok. The sound was great, and Jet Li in the cage was great. Not sure if its a buyer, but I may rent it come september. Answer: Originally posted by Goblin I liked him playing the bad guy in that Rutger Hauer film, shame he seems to be wasted in this ... I was hoping he'd get a big part! Unfortunately, its very much a DMX movie. :| Why couldn't they get Wesley Snipes to team up with Jet Li? DMX can't act and he's not much of a screen fighter either. He just looks clumsy. Answer: Originally posted by bruce-leroy Unfortunately, its very much a DMX movie. :| Why couldn't they get Wesley Snipes to team up with Jet Li? DMX can't act and he's not much of a screen fighter either. He just looks clumsy. Watching DMX in Exit Wounds I thought he was passable, at least compared to Ja Rule, Dr Dre, Snoop or Dennis Rodman. It could have been far worse! :D still Id much rather see an unknown actor in place of a Rapper! Answer: I was unimpressed. Given my reviews (in sig) of the one and Kiss of the Dragon - amongst his hk work - that summing up may seem odd. This is far and away Jet's worst film since "The Master" He really shouldn't bother. Watching it a day after "Hero" probably didn't help, but given his own views and philosophy on life (not to mention money in the bank) I find it difficult to see how he agreed to make this film. Sad. Even more so than Jackie Chan's American Decline - but at least JC has kept some of his own personality in the films - and even a smidgen of control over the fights. Jet has become a puppet, with muppets holding the strings. Answer: Originally posted by Shingster I've seen it & I can honestly say that the fight scenes are shockingly bad. Matt: I agree with what you said about this poor film, but I still believe that The One is better than this and Romeo must Die if only because of the excellent final fight! Look out for my reviews of "C2tG" and "Hero" this week! Answer: Originally posted by tpr007 Watching it a day after "Hero" probably didn't help, but given his own views and philosophy on life (not to mention money in the bank) I find it difficult to see how he agreed to make this film. Maybe it was a contractual obligation to make the movie with Anton...director of RMD and this movie. I'm guessing that Jet signed a 2 or 3 picture deal with Warners/Joel Silver? Answer: Originally posted by aprout plus it's from the director of Romeo Must Die & Exit Wounds - both of which sucked I enjoyed both of those films  Answer: Originally posted by jonathan.e Isn’t there a date for the R1 DVD yet? Oops, seemed to have wondered out of my own forum! :p There is no official date for Cradle 2 The Grave yet, but if you check the site it will be up for pre-order this week. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.todayaq.com
