Eraserhead at Davidlynch.com - ships to UK!
Question: It may say that "we cannot ship this item to the UK until 2008", but that's sure as hell not what happens if you put in your "Kart" and try to buy it! After hearing that a friend of mine in Scotland successfully ordered and received his, I've just tried it myself and successfully got through to the CC details stage (alas, no Visa or Mastercard, so couldn't complete), which I'd have assumed would have been a no-no given that I'd already entered my shipping destination as "United Kingdom" (from a drop-down menu). Has anyone here successfully ordered it? If so, shall we try and get that forums bulk-buy going again (quickly too, in case it's a programming flaw in the website!)? Answer: how much was this again? isn't it extortionate with the shipping as well? Answer: edited as I gave out the wrong info. my apologies Oscar Answer: £75 for 1 movie ?!! im sticking with my R2, although pan & scanned, im not paying £75 plus shipping, that absolutely takes the ****. Answer: Oscar's got it totally wrong - one copy on its own is $75 ($40 for the disc, $35 courier shipping), which is around £48. However, if you order lots and lots, as was the plan, it comes down to around £30 each. When you consider that the discs are about as director-approved as they come, for me personally that's a bargain. What's better value - spending £10 on a film in a sale that you might watch once or spending £30 on a film you'll watch many, many times over? Answer: no I am not wrong. he must have switched the currency signs then  Answer: Well, be that as it may, the information you gave is still erroneous. Just to confirm, they're £48-ish each if bought singularly, not £90. Answer: I've just read on the Home Theatre Forum that someone else in the UK has just received a copy. Tempted. :) Answer: Great post, Narshty. I have a friend who lives in the Bahamas but that country is not in the drop-down box, so despite emailing D.Lynch.com to get it added (which they said they'd do) so that I could get it shipped to & from there, it's still not there! So, I've just gone & added the Jack Nance DVD & Eraserhead CD to the ERASERHEAD DVD (thus only paying the courier/postage once) & IT ACCEPTED IT! Ok, it's gonna be a massive hit to the Credit card (probably a ton  ), but I used to pay that regularly for laserdiscs, and as Narshty correctly states - this'll be one to watch & treasure like a new-born (monster) baby!! Answer: It works!!! Shall we try and resurrect that Forums bulk-buy in that case? Answer: According to the guy at HTF it cost him £63.73 in total, he was charged £15 by UPS at the door. Whoever's organising the bulk buy is it a go? If so count me in.:) Answer: lets get the bulk buy back! i ain't paying £63 but anything under £40 and you can count me in. Answer: It only cost my mate Simon £59 all-in, but that's not much of a saving admittedly. Come on, let's get that Forums spirit back! Answer: How many people expressed an interest in the bulk buy? I'm thinking that they might be turning a blind eye on individuals ordering one but if someone places a hugh order they might not like that.:( Answer: if this does go ahead, count me in too  Answer: Isn't the customs charge just going to increase with a bulk buy? At least with small orders you'd have a chance or avoiding customs... oh wait a minute, "courier"... no chance ;) :oh-hum:. Answer: I ordered a copy from Australia and received an email informing me that: Dear Tim, We are sorry to inform you that we are unable to ship the Eraserhead DVD that you order. Due to contractual agreements we are unable to sell the DVD to customers in Australia. We are currently trying to negotiate out of such contract and hope to be able to offer it soon. Do you wish to cancel your order at this time or would you like us to just send the other item you ordered. Thank you, DL.com Customer Support support@davidlynch.com Phone: 949.250.9051 Hours: 9:00 - 5:00 PST (M-F) Fortunately, I only have to wait until July before the contractual obligations run out, but I am never-the-less sooo ****** off. Perhaps they managed to negotiate their way out of the UK's contract? Answer: The only other option is asking ********* to have a ton shipped to their Pennsylvania offices, then send them straight on to to us UK fans. Badger Craig about it here . Answer: How long do we have to wait here in the UK for this? Answer: Originally posted by TinTin How long do we have to wait here in the UK for this? 2008! Answer: you'd be best advised to go check the ********* forum.... ;) Answer: Eraserhead is now on *********'s site for £39.99 delivered - direct link (http://www.*********.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=14946) So is the Short Films disc (http://www.*********.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=14948) for the same price. :) Answer: Just purchased from *********.  Hope it arrives safe and sound and well done to *********. I still have a list of all those people interested in the co-buy - from over a year ago:nuts: . Due to work commitments I can no longer over see this - if people are still interested though I will gladly pass on the list if someone wants to take it on. £39.99 from ********* will be a hard price to beat though especially with customs to consider. Just glad the UK can finally get their hands on this. :) Answer:    Just ordered my copy too - so you can scratch my name from that list <b>dunkrag</b>, but cheers for making the effort to put the co-buy together all the same... Answer: Is this really worth £40 though?. Answer: Originally posted by DeadKenny Is this really worth £40 though?. The Short Films disc ended up costing me a darn sight more than that when taking postage into consideration, and it was worth every penny! As Eraserhead is the film I watch more than any other in my collection, I would say that for me personally that's an unequivocal, YES! :D And as Lynch is selling it himself, I'm happier with my money going straight into his pocket - especially considering the care he's lavished over this transfer - rather than into the pockets of those responsible for the woefully-neglectful studio issue I forked out fifteen quid for previously. Answer: I remember paying £60 for this on VHS about 20 years ago - I guess it's time to get out the CC Answer: Oh No  Could have saved myself a small fortune :brickwall Anyway, my order to the UK has shipped. Answer: Originally posted by DeadKenny Is this really worth £40 though?. Well, read this review (http://www.mondo-digital.com/eraserhead.html). Sounds like an unmissable bargain to me. Answer: I'm having trouble getting to the checkout. I've got the disc in my basket but it just won't budge any further than the cart.:( Answer: Originally posted by Cornelius I'm having trouble getting to the checkout. I've got the disc in my basket but it just won't budge any further than the cart.:( Same here - if I go to checkout it comes up cannot find server Edge Answer: craig says the server is down at the moment, they are working on it. Answer: I'll be getting both of those discs then. Thanks *********, glad I waited, didn't fancy paying £70 for one disc but am quite happy to spend that on two! Answer: are there any extras ? presumably there is NO chapter list. Answer: and what about 'I Dont Know Jack' http://www.*********.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=14947 skint again. damn. Answer: Originally posted by raptor are there any extras ? presumably there is NO chapter list. What, £40 and no chapter list? ;) Answer: I cant get into the DL website. How much are they shipped within the US ? I see one has landed on EBay already :noid: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3318326162&category=18843 Answer: Originally posted by DeadKenny What, £40 and no chapter list? ;) He doesnt like them. None on 'Elephant Man' (R1) Although his others have them . Answer: Originally posted by raptor are there any extras ? presumably there is NO chapter list. Just seen the review Answer: Originally posted by raptor He doesnt like them. None on 'Elephant Man' (R1) Although his others have them . I know, I was taking the 'p' :p I thought it was more than just Elephant Man that didn't have the chapter stops (Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet especially ?). I must get round to getting more Lynch stuff on DVD, but the lack of extras always put me off (and naff versions of things like Blue Velvet). Answer: The new version of Blue Velvet (R1) is much improved & a worthy buy. Features: "Mysteries Of Love" Documentary Deleted Scenes Montage Original "Siskel & Ebert" Review Photo Gallery Collectible Booklet Original Theatrical Trailer Video: Widescreen 2.35:1 Color (Anamorphic) Audio: ENGLISH: Dolby Digital 5.1 [CC] Mulholland Drive has chapter stops. Answer: W00t! Way to go *********!!! But my bank manager is going to be none too happy! :D Answer:  Hello Eraserhead, I Don't Know Jack & Short Films Of David Lynch, goodbye £104!!! Answer: Originally posted by Adge  Hello Eraserhead, I Don't Know Jack & Short Films Of David Lynch, goodbye £104!!!   Enjoy them  I'm slightly annoyed that i picked up the rubbish R2 version of Blue Velvet. I'll watch it and then decide if the upgrade is worthwhile...I expect the answer will be yes :) Answer: Luckily, Ive been able to order all 3 of them to a work colleage of my wife, who lives in Texas. A tad over £73 as the shipping on all, within the US, is only $11. Will be arriving 'smuggled' into her office soon. :norty: Answer: My Mullholland Drive has no chapter stops. I do like the quote I saw attributed to him when asked about chapter stops. "It's not a book." Class. Answer: Any reviews of the Shorts disc? Answer: Originally posted by jonathan.e Any reviews of the Shorts disc? http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_4/shortfilmsofdavidlynch.html Answer: Has anyone had their Eraserhead from ********* yet? Had my CC charged nearly two weeks ago, I thought they charge on dispatch? Answer: Originally posted by TinTin Has anyone had their Eraserhead from ********* yet? Had my CC charged nearly two weeks ago, I thought they charge on dispatch? Craig from ********* has posted a reply about this in the suppliers forum...basically they are supposedly shipping next week as they received stock later than planned. Answer: Originally posted by neeek http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_4/shortfilmsofdavidlynch.html Thanks - Saved me £40! Answer: I've heard the Short Films disc is decidedly For Completists Only. Answer: I find the Short Films disc essential myself! :) Perhaps less so for those who prefer Lynch's recent output, but certainly, *absolutely*, if you're a fan of Eraserhead. The Alphabet and The Grandmother stand right up with Lynch's most provocative work IMHO. It's also interesting to spot the beginning of themes that have continued to play a major part in Lynch's film-making, and to hear him talking about his early projects. I admit that I'm not a fan of The Cowboy & The Frenchman, but I find the rest of the disc eminently re-watchable. Gets a definite  from me... Yes, this is right:thumbs: Answer: Has anyone had their delivery from ********* yet? I'm still waiting:( Answer: Still waiting here - although I had the shipping email on Monday, so hopefully shouldn't be long now! :) Answer: Got it on Wednesday, and the disc is absolutely wonderful. The documentary featuring Lynch's reminiscences is tremendous, but the thing that's most exciting for me is the transfer. It's absolutely breathtaking, and is exactly how digital restoration should be done. The film is every bit as clean and detailed as Citizen Kane and North by Northwest, but with appropriate grain, depth and texture still remaining intact. Even though the soundtrack is only Dolby Digital as opposed to PCM, it's still outstanding, with astonishing highs and lows and superb fidelity. Worth every penny of the £39.99 I paid for it - one of the greatest DVD releases of the year. Answer: Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still waiting for my copy!! :( Narshty - I've read on HTF that there is some sort of glue or sticky stuff holding the disk in place and that if you're not careful it ends up damaging the disk!! Did you have any problems with the packaging?? Jon Answer: Jon B - Mine arrived this week too. Totally no sign of any glue endangering the disc on my copy. Agree with Narshty, the transfer is breathtaking. Watched it lst night with the lights out and the sound turned up. It still spooks me. The Stories documentary is great - even better than the commentary that Lynch will never do. Simply, just him, sat there remembering. The paper sleeve won't last and like all 'clever' packaging it's a bit of a pain in the arse - but it looks great and I'm thrilled to finally have a copy that does the movie justice. 10/10! Answer: Mine hasn't arrived yet either.:( Answer: Received mine, from D.Lynch.com a few weeks back, and watched it in my cinema. The experience was not unlike the first time I saw it back in 1980 at the Scala, Tottenham Ct.Road - except that the transfer here is infinitely better than the print I saw back then. A treasured DVD in every respect. Answer: dunkrag - It's a shame that the sleeve is pathetically flimsy (the kind of shiny paper generally used for inserts), but what can you do? Answer: There's a lot to be said for the good old Amaray!! :D Don't want to rag on the disc too much though. I watched it again tonight and became totally immersed in it again - right from the opening credits. The Stories doco is great - listening to him talk about the making of the movie really paints a vivid picture of the time and spirit that was around during that period. 6 hours of doco and 13+ hours of commentaries on the LOTR discs and I felt that I had the same understanding of the creating process from listening to 90mins of Lynch's recollections. Answer: Originally posted by Narshty dunkrag - It's a shame that the sleeve is pathetically flimsy (the kind of shiny paper generally used for inserts), but what can you do? Am i right in thinking the way the disc is held in it's box is identical to the same kind of way as the 'Short Films' disc only that the sleeve is padded to prevent excess scratching on removing the disc on numerous occasions? Answer: Originally posted by RichDB10 Am i right in thinking the way the disc is held in it's box is identical to the same kind of way as the 'Short Films' disc only that the sleeve is padded to prevent excess scratching on removing the disc on numerous occasions? Correct. Answer: Thanks :) (reason i asked is i owned the Short Films disc but because it wasn't padded it was scratched to hell upon receipt, consequently traded it in the forums and am awaiting delivery of a new set) Answer: Originally posted by dunkrag Jon B - Mine arrived this week too. I am getting very excited about this!!! Answer: So.. a question for any of us lucky folk who have got this now... :D I thought there was supposed to be a couple of deleted scenes (apart from the one on the menu screen and the brief clip of the "bed/battery-clips" scene in the documentary) on this disc? Am I missing the obvious, or are they not on there? Also found it quite scary to notice, after umpteen previous viewings, that the Lady In The Radiator Song is actually sung by a bloke! I hadn't heard of Peter Ivers previously, but a quick search on the Internet reveals someone worth investigating further... Totally agree - of course, it helps that it's been one of my all-time favourite films for a good couple of decades with regard to the price, but even a quick glance at it on my laptop this morning reveals that this is a quite extraordinary transfer, and I can't wait to watch the whole thing at home. I absolutely agree with Lynch's approach to the "commentary" - the problem with scene-specific commentaries is that they make entirely artificial demands in terms of pace and timing, which is why many end up awkwardly structured. As it is, he's effectively provided a full 90-minute commentary, which is more than I suspect most of us were anywhere close to expecting. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.todayaq.com
