T2 Extreme Edition Specs with new James Cameron commentary
Question: According to Video Store Magazine (3/18/03): James Cameron speaks! The director contributes a rare feature-length audio commentary in T2: Extreme DVD, Artisan Home Entertainment’s third disc outing with Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, one that surpasses the supplier’s two prior editions in terms of transfer and extras. The two-disc set is due in stores June 3 at $29.98. Prebook is May 6. Terminator 2 has received a new 1080p high-definition anamorphic widescreen transfer for the Extreme edition, as well as a frame-by-frame restoration that Artisan says makes the 1991 hit look better than when it premiered in theaters. The version presented in the set is the special edition version of the movie that contains 16 minutes of footage that did not appear in theaters. Joining Cameron in the audio commentary is co-writer William Wisher. Special features in the set include an Extreme Interactive Mode, providing behind-the-scenes footage and graphic commentary providing insight into decisions during the film’s shoot. Other features include “No Feat But What We Make,” a new documentary highlighting T2’s role in the development of digital effects and modern filmmaking; “T2: On the Set,” a retrospective montage that includes rare production footage; “Infiltration Unit Simulator and T2 FX Studio,” a primer on image “morphing” that allows one to graft one’s own head shot onto a T800 or T1000 Terminator; and “Skynet Combat Chassis Designer,” with which one can construct and field-test a Terminator fighting machine. The movie disc will include a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX audio track and a Dolby headphone audio track. wow I take back what I said, I will be buying this new version :notworthy  Answer: This really takes the **** doesn't it! Answer: What? No DTS? Mind you, i'll prolly buy it as well :D Answer: Originally posted by CLH This really takes the **** doesn't it! You said it, I take it, all Regions will be Identical Answer: So I guess I need to keep my ultimate but by this for the better picture etc?? Answer: I'm going to wait and see how bigger picture improvement there really is before deciding. Answer: I'm buying it again as i'm very weak minded.:noid: Answer: Originally posted by dp2 I'm buying it again as i'm very weak minded.:noid: Ditto!!!! Answer: I'm not :| For once I'm pleased I can't afford something! Answer: They could improve the picture all they like, but unless they improve it by inserting a chorus line of naked supermodels, high-stepping it to "You Could be Mine", Cameron can stick this latest and all future "more special edition"s up his arse. I've paid for this set once, replacing my then-owned bare bones R1 release of Terminator 2. I'm not paying for it again. Answer: Is the theatrical version not on this set? Are the extras from the Ultimate Edition included as well? Answer: Still no Gun 'n' Roses Music Video then!? :oh-hum: Answer: This is annoying to say the least. I, like carryonline, had already upgraded from the original Artisan release, which if I recall cost me an arm a leg in the first place. To then release another edition is a joke! Answer: This will be mine, oh yes.....it will be mine. Answer: Originally posted by CLH This really takes the EDIT doesn't it! thats swearing u know!!!! Answer: No DTS? No Seamless branching? :oh-hum: Answer: Originally posted by nashie thats swearing u know!!!! :dork: Answer: Originally posted by Captain_Chaos No DTS? The director contributes a rare feature-length audio commentary in T2: Extreme DVD, Artisan Home Entertainment’s third disc outing with Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, one that surpasses the supplier’s two prior editions in terms of transfer and extras. didnt Cameron contribute to the old commentary ? Answer: More Features, a Cameron Full Length Commentry and better picture. Damn Damn!!!!! I have to get this now, utter _______!!!:( Answer: ......and by buying this, you're just telling the company that it's alright to keep doing this sort of thing. Answer: FFS - they add a commentary and remove DTS!! :brickwall   Answer: I'm not buying it again - I don't even like T2 that much & have not much idea why I bought the 'ultimate' edition. Answer: This does sound tempting, but as it seems to be just the longer version on the dvd I'll give it a miss, Cameron commentary or no. And where's the dts-es discrete track that had been previously reported? Answer: The original audio commentary doesn't seem to be included either. I won't be buying this because the special extended edition will not be included. Seeing the ending with the old Sarah makes it a lot easier to pretend that T3 never happened. Answer: Why not ignore this and go and get a proper film instead. Answer: Well I want the R1 Ulitmate so this is good for me because people will be trading them in the classsified's so they can get this new version :) Answer: Damn you Artisan!!! :gag: Those new documentaries look interesting especailly the SFX one Answer: Dont think i'll be getting it. Since theres nowt wrong with my R2 version. Answer: Originally posted by Marv Dont think i'll be getting it. Better keep both to have everything. Answer: What exactly is a Headphone audio track? Answer: It's a special surround track for regular 2.0 headphones that makes it sound like audio is coming from behind, etc, for those that didn't buy the $500 Sony DTS 5.1 wireless headphones. Since I got them, every DVD for me has that track. :D Answer: You have too much money :nono: I want some :( Answer: Here are the complete, and final, specs for the upcoming T2: Extreme Edition 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer digitally mastered from a brand-new 1080p, 24sf high-definition digital telecine transfer. Answer: God damn it I might have to buy it again :| Answer: "T2: High Definition": the complete theatrical version of the film in Microsoft Windows Media 9 series, playable in high resolution and 5.1 sound directly from your PC Sorry, what? So instead of a seemlessly branched version, if you want the theatrical release, you play it back in Windows Media Player?!? Answer: Well yes, but the WMP version should have a higher res than the DVD. Answer: Originally posted by Mike Why not ignore this and go and get a proper film instead. At first glance this derogatory comment would seem really rather condescending, I mean who are you to decide what is or isnt a 'proper' film. Then of course I realised you were joking, afterall this coming from the same person who recommends 'Con Air' and 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' :D Answer: I might get it, since my extreme edition is just in a snapper case as I missed out on the tin limited edition. This new ones comes in a tin and it's fairly cheep for preorder in dvdsoon. Answer: Sigh.. this will be my 57th copy bought or something (includig widesree, standard, theatrical etc on VHS) Still... great film  Answer: Originally posted by thomasc1982 Sigh.. this will be my 57th copy bought or something (includig widesree, standard, theatrical etc on VHS) Still... great film  59th for me, what with laserdiscs and all... i AM going to buy this, not because i want to, but because i'm a mindless zombie who'll give in becuase of the cameron commentary (oh and the new tin case OHHHHHH!) i'm a sucker for little gimmiks:dork: Kain^ Answer: Just a heads up for anyone thinking of getting this release for the WM9 version - it may be that you wont be able to play it outside the USA without being connected to the internet, and using a proxy server that gives a location as being in the USA. Apparently, a similar release (Standing in the Shadow of Motown), has a WM9 version. When playing it, it requires a connection to the internet and then checks that you are in the USA before downloading the licence to view it. Obviously, if you are in the UK, it wont download it. So far, I have only seen one or two people report this problem, so it may not be very widespread. However, I thought I would mention it in case anyone gets the DVD and tries watching the film and can't understand why the WM9 video doesn't play. For me, it means I will have to connect my HTPC to the internet before watching on my projector. Which is added hassle I have to say. Oh, and Standing in the Shadow of Motown and T2: Extreme are both produced by Artisan. So it's likely the WM9 will have this protection. Answer: Another point to consider is that this is specified as by equivelant to 720p and it is the master transfer that was/is 1080p that MS have used. In any case there are only a handful of highly expensive bits of kit that could handle 1080p and also no consumer pcs could run a 1080p MS WMV9 encoded piece as it's software and not hardware decoded. If you don't believe me check out avsforum.com and search on there where you'll find a guy in charge of this, amirm from MS. All in all it's plasma and projector peeps who'll gain with 720p on the go. For people with crts watching the dvd version at 480p if they have a dvd and tv which can do progressive I'd suggest not spending on this until they have a set and pc capable of above 480p. Answer: I already have virtually every edition on every format....VHS WS, PAL SE LD, original R1, R1 UE and now I`m looking forward to owning T2:EE. :dork: Answer: Originally posted by Mandrill Which is why I want the R1 Ultimate editon:D .. which is why I opted for the R1 Ultimate Tin Box edition, complete with seamless branching, for just over 9 quid, from EBAY. Im glad I did, even though I could have got the R2 version on CD-WOW for about 8 quid :) Answer: Also discussed here , especially the 1080p high-def issue. Answer: Originally posted by Garry Cowell Still no Gun 'n' Roses Music Video then!? :oh-hum: Is that the one where arnie turns up at the concert as the T-800? Answer: I see that some people are upset that the Theatrical Edition isn't available except through WMP, but I recieved the disc today, and in fact it is available on disc one, playable through a normal DVD player. :) Answer: Huh? The Theatrical and Special Edition are available on disc ONE? Are you sure? Folks at HTF don't think so, thought the SE version was the only cut on the EE. Answer: How do you access the theatrical version on Disc 1 then?? i can't see it for the life of me!! Answer: Highlight "Sensory Control" and press right 5 times. "The Future is Not Set" will appear. Press Enter and you can play the Theatrical Version! Answer: Huh? You sure you're not getting mixed up between the Ultimate Edition and the new Extreme Edition? Answer: Originally posted by Terminated Huh? You sure you're not getting mixed up between the Ultimate Edition and the new Extreme Edition? Yes. This is the Extreme Edition. I also have the older Ultimate Edition, but am not talking about that. Answer: I can confirm it definitely works. Thanks dean. Not sure whether to get rid of the Ultimate Edition as I was only keeping it for the theatrical version. Answer: nice one dean, will go try it in a bit!! what does everyone think of the sound on this release? do the surrounds get a good workout? like i said, off to watch in a while anyway! lol Answer: Haven't watched yet but it DOES have nice packaging:dork: Answer: The tin ripped my plastic case.:( Answer: Originally posted by sidebog7 The tin ripped my plastic case.:( Didn't rip mine but folded up the bottom a bit. PLUS I wish they would line up the covers in the plastic properly to stop them getting ripped when you remove those bloody stupid secutiry stickers! Answer: See other thread here "T2 extreme dvd hi-def... may be not" You have to set up a proxy server to run the hi def section .word of warning you need a bells and whistles pc recommends 3ghz processor picture is top better than any normal dvd transfer if you've got a plasma that will display these resolutions I cant see any thing touching it .not seen all the extras yet .:) Answer: I've got a 2.6GHz P4 and it stutters on certain bits from time to time. However it looks absolutely stunning. Mind you the difference between the UE DVD and EE DVD on my PC was eye opening also. Interesting to note that they seem to have used the same film source. I noticed spots and flecks in the same places on both versions. Answer: GUYS, if you have this can you try this out "Highlight "Sensory Control" and press right 5 times. "The Future is Not Set" will appear. Press Enter and see what happens!!! " If it works, the theatrical verison might be there! Answer: it is there, see page 3 of this thread! lol Answer: LOL. Someone copied my Easter Egg over to the HTF, and then it got copied back over here, using the same wording (until the last bit) This is the first Easter Egg I've ever found on my own. The fact that no-one else seems to found it before me makes me even happier. :D Answer: Groovy. My PC is too crap to play that DVD-ROM theatrical version, so I'm glad you don't need to use Windows ****head Player to play the Theatrical Version afterall. One question though, what are the menus like on the disc? Thanks for the info. I'll be picking it up later next month, as I need to wait and see if I've won it in a competition! Answer: While on the subject of T2: The region2 Ultimate version has some easter eggs: How To Get It: While this egg doesn't give quite the same features as the US disc, it still provides an interesting few minutes worth of entertainment. First off go to main menu on disc 1 and type in 82997 on your dvd remote (or pc number pad). The words "The", "future", "is", "not", "set" should appear next to the endoskeleton. On the US disc, this gives you the option to watch an extended special edition, but here in R2, the above egg brings you to a new screen, where you can watch the two extra scenes (isolated from the main film) that extended the R1 special edition. "T-1000 searching John's room" and "Future Coda - Alternate Ending". A very minor addition on the second disc is an animated menu insert. When you are presented with the first three options on the main menu, wait for roughly 30 seconds and the T1000 will morph out of the doors and tell you to "get out!" (This dos'nt sound nowt like Robert Patricks voice) Also, if you wait when the main menu appears on either disc (Cyberdyne logo) and don't select anything an animation will take you into the future Terminator world. Answer: So, the new extreme edition has the theatrical edition and the special edition. So, does that mean that the only thing it's missing is the "happy ending" of the third version that was on the UE? If I remember correctly, wasn't that the only difference between the third version and the special edition? or am I forgetting something? Is it there as a deleted scene or only on the UE? I'm trying to make my mind up at the moment to buy the UE or the EE to replace my old VHS widescreen special edition. Answer: Originally posted by Paul Evans I'm trying to make my mind up at the moment to buy the UE or the EE to replace my old VHS widescreen special edition. If you opt for the UE get the Region 1 version :) Im glad I did. I got the tin case one as well, from EBAY. You can still get the R1 version off CD WOW etc but it doesnt have the tin case .. (this didnt bother me by the way, but as it was half the selling price of CDWOW or PLAY , I got it from EBAY) Answer: Not sure if i should go for the extream edition as i already have the Ultimate edition. The UE also has the DTS track which i believe the EE does not have. Would be nice to know if the menu screens are the same as the UE. Answer: Originally posted by jonnoW Not sure if i should go for the extream edition as i already have the Ultimate edition. The UE also has the DTS track which i believe the EE does not have. Would be nice to know if the menu screens are the same as the UE. For the first time ever I have both and am keeping both. Answer: I am almost in possession of this EXtreMe Edition and I will also keep the UE  Answer: i just finished watching the extreme edition, very nice transfer and the sound ain't all that bad either. interested in the graphic commentary, sound pretty good...just need to find time to sit through it for another 2 and 1/2 hours. Answer: Hmmm, ordered mine absolutley ages ago from dvdsoon.com and still not shipped Answer: For anyone who has this DVD, what are the Menus like on the Extreme Edition? Answer: Originally posted by Terminated For anyone who has this DVD, what are the Menus like on the Extreme Edition? from an htf member http://users.lvcm.com/mrmatthew/T2EE/menu.jpg Answer: Originally posted by Rypro525 from an htf member http://users.lvcm.com/mrmatthew/T2EE/menu.jpg how crap ! They should atr least have made an effort to make the menus different than the UE :) Answer: That menu looks mega **** Answer: and to do the trick, just go to sensory control, do the right curser 5 times and hit enter. Answer: Are the menues animated or static?(unlikely) Answer: Thanks for that Rypro. The menus in my opinion look greatly inferior to the UE. Looks like those ones were knocked up in a few minutes using the UE menus as backup. I'm still gonna get the EE though... Answer: How do i get the the high definition version to work without moving to america? Answer: I never got it working ever :( such a shame, but nice to see someone else wants it to work, hope theres some sort of crack out there :) Answer: I just got it working! All i did was go into my ie network settings and change the proxy settings to host119-33.discord.birch.net port 80 (a us proxy address) The quality isnt as good as i was hoping - it seems a bit grainy :( Answer: I want to get this. DVD Box Office has two versions: one was released 2003 and the other 2004. As it seems to be cheap at a lot of places at the moment, am I right in thinking it was re-released? And if so, does the re-released version have the same packaging as the original, or it just a plain case? Answer: The re-release doesn't have the metal sleeve of the first release, just a cardboard one instead. The disc contents are the same though. Answer: The re-release doesn't have the metal sleeve, just a cardboard one instead. All the contents are the same though. Thanks, even though you've kinda told me what I didn't want to hear. At least it's not amaray. Answer: TBH I wouldnt bother buying this release at all, I've got the UE R1 which I bought way back in 2000 (with DTS-ES as well  ) the piccys plenty good enough for me & with HD-DVD on the horizon I can wait another year or two for that proper HD version (When I can afford the display to go with it) if the trailer downloaded from the MS site is anything to go by its going to be nothing short of jawdropping PQ IMO  :dork: Answer: Thanks, even though you've kinda told me what I didn't want to hear. At least it's not amaray. Umm it is an amaray but with a cardboard slip/sleeve over it (rather than the amaray & metal slip/sleeve of the first batches). Or have I got the wrong end of the stick with what you meant in that post? Answer: Umm it is an amaray but with a cardboard slip/sleeve over it (rather than the amaray & metal slip/sleeve of the first batches). Or have I got the wrong end of the stick with what you meant in that post? No, it's just a terribly cruel irony. ;) I never knew the original came in an armaray case. Even so, that they've put the amaray in a cardboard slip case makes all the difference to my shelf. TBH I wouldnt bother buying this release at all You can get it for around £8. I thought the Cameron commentary alone would be worth the current asking price? Answer: The Cameron commentary is well worth a listen, but I paid for the upgraded picture quality which makes all the difference on larger displays. It even gets close to the DVHS version (which was produced from the old HD master, not the new one created for the Extreme Edition). Still keeping the Ultimate Edition DVD for the fantastic extras though. Answer: have the ultimate and extreme editions got the same extras? Answer: similar, i think, but not the same. LooN Answer: Ive got both editions. I only got the EE for the Cameron Commentary. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.todayaq.com
