Serious Original Star Wars DVD trilogy petition
Question: The Digital Bits site has set up a petition website to begin a campaign to get Lucas to put the original editions of the Star Wars Trilogy onto DVD (something which he has stated will not happen) The last campaign they organised got over 30,000 signatures in an attempt to get Episode 1 released on disc, and it may have had an impact in making sure LucasFilm realised the demand, as they announced the DVD a little while later. So add your name and let the voices be heard! :p :dork: :D Original Trilogy (http://www.originaltrilogy.com) Answer: Looks like the founders of this petition didn't check their database capacity: - Error Diagnostic Information ODBC Error Code = 37000 (Syntax error or access violation) [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The log file for database 'originaltrilogy' is full. I'm holing out for about 5 years to get them all in one go. Lucas likes playing mind games. We won't get the originals or the special editions. We'll get ultra special editions with possibly even more new scenes. Never means not yet in lucas speak. Answer: Originally posted by kiran_mk2 Looks like the founders of this petition didn't check their database capacity: - :oh-hum: that's us all doomed to keeping our dusty 20 year old betamax ex rental tapes then :D Answer: He will more likely release a disc with the Orginal and the Special Edition and then maybe a even better Special Edition version of the film. Like Beuty and The Beast. Answer:  Answer: Signed! I'm #8813  come on georgey boy, get the originals out! Think of how much money he could make if he did original/special edition releases! Answer: I don't want the original versions. Apart from the Greedo scene, i loved seeing the expansion of Mos Eisley, the improved Death Star Battle and many other elements. Lucas can keep the originals. It is unfair that they were available on Laserdisc and not DVD though. I would be happy to pay a reasonable price for a bare-bones release of the SE's. Answer: up to 9000 already! (i'm no 9199) Answer: :oh-hum: Yeah, I am sure signing this will make Lucas drop "everything" he is doing and rush out his only good films on dvd. A complete waste of time Answer: Originally posted by HighlanderTM I don't want the original versions. Apart from the Greedo *tweak* and the dreaful CGI Jabba in ANH, and Luke's scream in ESB, I think the SEs were an improvement on the originals. I respect Luca$' desire to make a decent job of the DVDs, but if he's not going to release them until after Episode III, it'll be at least another three years' wait. IMHO he might as well release bare bones editions in the meantime. As long as he's honest up front, I don't think people will be <u>that</u> resentful about buying them twice - not with such a long gap in between. And besides, not everyone cares about extras. Plus, by the time 2006 comes around, DVDs will be commonplace and people won't be as awed by extras and commentaries as in the early days of the format. Answer: Why doesn't someone do a really excellent job of bootlegging these films...all the 'original' fans can then buy these and Lucas can then shove the special editions up his a$$ ...anyone else getting a little bored with 'Star Wars on dvd' threads...after all, there are a lot better films already on dvd! :) Answer: At last! A serious petition. ;) Answer: It doesn't matter, people will buy anything with the words Star Wars imprinted on it. Agree with that 100% :dork: Answer: i might start a petition to get the moon to be actually made of cheese. its as likely of making lucas do something he doesnt want to do! i agree with lucas on this. its his film and if he releases a dvd he wants it to be the best in his eyes. so if that means extras and special edition so be it! if it was money motivated he would have brought the original 3 bare bones out already. and made a packet. petitions dont make any difference! Answer: People aren't saying that the Special Edition Star Wars are crap or that they shouldn't be released though. It's just that we should at least be given the option to get the originals aswell. Personally I don't see why he can't just do a seemless branching type thing. Gary A Answer: How the hell could seemless branching work on those movies? Most scenes were completely replaced  SF Answer: 11071 Answer: 13008 Not sure it will do any good, but what's the harm eh? EDIT - actually number 9006 with 3323 people who haven't confirmed their signatures, probably because the tools didn't give a valid email address. Answer: just remove the greedo shooting first bit and i am happy. Answer: #13798 Signed Answer: Originally posted by dean richardson petitions dont make any difference! How can you say that? Look how effective all the recent anti-war demonstrations have been in steering our wonderful democratically-elected leaders... No, wait, you're right :( Answer: Originally posted by HighlanderTM [B]I don't want the original versions[B] I can't believe you think that, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I *hate* the ring around the death star explosion it's just pathetic (as well as just about everything else) - granted i like the overhead shot of the falcon taking off from mos eisley - but thats it. Answer: I don't really see what the problem is even if Lucas does only release the SEs. By 2006 or whenever, DVD burners will be widespread, and I'm sure that some enterprising people will be able to fix the more offensive scenes, like Greedo shooting first, ANH Jabba, the hamfisted mangling of the end of the ESB SE (including Luke's scream and Vader's travelogue), etc, to end up with a version of the OT that basically only has updated FX, the way it should have been done and left at. Not that I'm endorsing such a course of action, you understand. ;) Answer: Originally posted by General Zod I don't really see what the problem is even if Lucas does only release the SEs. Not that I'm endorsing such a course of action, you understand. ;) To me, its more that he thinks his films will be better with better technology, which I think is rubbish. He made his films and thats it - leave them alone - they're great and can only be made worse. but anyway - surely it would be better not to have to fool around with the films as you suggest (it's inevitable I know) . i think geogre is pulling our "big ones" - he'll release the originals eventually. Answer: Chalk up another petition signature here... I don't mind that Lucas add up all the CGI and JarJar crap he wants to the original films as a "Retouched For Happy Meal Consumers" edition, but losing the unadultered movies would be a nameless crime both against SW fans and cinema history IMO. I hope GL sees the light in Spielberg's E.T. collector's edition, which includes both the retouched and original versions. More money for him, more happiness for us avid capitalist consumers... everybody happy. :dork: Answer: and do you honestly think that petition will make lucas change his mind, lucas is the mother of all <insert swear word beginning with F> ups. all he wants to do is release the special special special edition on DVD, including the scene where han and greedo kiss and makeup. but knowing the bearded one, he will release the new versions on DVD, everyone will rush out and buy them, then he will say mmmm they sold well, i'll release the OT on DVD just to milk then for more money just like he did with the VHS releases. I dread EP3, as it will suck big time, lucas should not be allowed behind a camera ever again. Answer: I don't see any harm in just signing the thing, no matter how much I agree with you :) "EP3" ? I also heard about "EP1" and "EP2" recently, what the hell is that ? Isn't this thread about *StarWars* ? :D Answer: They made Starwars EP1? When did this happen? I thought he was making Indiana Jones and the Phantom Menace? Answer: Ooopps. Doobilopostolio.:norty: Answer: 20,396 !!! :) Answer: Originally posted by sweevo 20,396 !!! :) The thing is for the 20,396 asking for the OT on DVD there will be another 20,000 calling him a money grabbing git if he does release them. The guy can't win :| Answer: Doubt it'll make any difference, but #20493. :| Answer: For me the absence of the Ewok song at the end of Jedi hurts the trilogy more than any of the other changes. It was so happy and jubilant and the one they replaced it with sounds kind of downbeat and miserable. Please put the Ewok song back in, George. Thanks. Answer: The problem with Lucas tweaking the films for the Special Editions is that elements of them still look like films from the pre-CGI days - e.g. all the musicians in the Mos Eisley bar in Star Wars look like actors with rubber masks - at least it looks that way on my, ahem, imported DVD. I think it would be better for Lucas to release the films untweaked in their full glory so that every kid now goes "Wow! Did they really make a film like that in 1977, Dad?". To which Dad replies, "Yes son, I remember when I was your age ... etc". The impact of the films is actually more that way, and it makes up for any deficiencies in plot, dialogue etc. Just like when, as I kid, I sat down with my dad and appreciated the reasons why he liked films like High Noon, The Great Escape, The Longest Day, Bullitt, and Goldfinger - I could see that they were great, awesome films even though elements of them look a bit old-fashioned (not knocking those films, so don't flame me). The guy can't win :| Yes he can. He could give them to us for free :) Just like a big delusional Santa Claus. Answer: I think I must be the only person who doesn't actually mind the SE versions of the Star Wars Trilogy. I grew up watching Star Wars, in fact when I was about 8 (im now 22) every saturday morning I used to watch Star Wars as soon as I got up. I do agree some bits im not too keen on (greedo shooting first, "censored" bits when lasers hit Imperial officers) but I felt most of the changes were good, especially the battle of Yavin. I agree ,I'm 21 and like you apart from Greedo and the dodgy looking Jabba I havent got a problem with the SE.s Answer: I like the SE's. It just would be nice to have both versions. They did it with E.T (the original there being miles better) so why not with Star Wars? I recently watched the original death star battle a few months back and it's no where near as good as the newer SE version. I still enjoyed it however. More of a fanboy thing I think. ;) Answer: Well if I could pick and choose which scenes were SE and which were kept originial I would, but if forced to choose one or the other it would be original for ANH and ROTJ, SE for ESB. Not just for Greedo and Jabba in ANH, but all those blatant CGI creatures in the Mos Eisley scenes, esp. the "amusing" jawa falling of and holding onto the reigns. ROTJ has to be original for the god awful new song on Jabbas barge, plus again the CGI band members don't look as good as the muppet band members. Plus they fail to fix the worst special effect in the film, the creature Luke fights when Jabba opens the trapdoor underneath him.
